3 good reads

From a Patriot friend:

Even in these tight economic times, our public libraries have public funds for purchasing books to add to their collections. A fellow Facebook friend and patriot (John L. Work) has written 3 books of "faction" that would be enjoyed by anyone who loves a good suspense thriller. One of John's books ("A Summons To Perdition") should be made into a movie... it's that compelling. Who doesn't enjoy a page-turner with a scary face of fire on the cover?

Friends across America, please grab your library cards, and make a quick phone call to request your public library purchase 3 book titles by John L. Work? The books are now available on amazon for a STEAL ($22 total), and are as follows:

*A Summons to Perdition (Shariah Law Suspense Thriller)
*The Canal (about an actual Leavenworth 10 patriot military man)
*A Well-Regulated Vengeance (America Without a 2nd Amendment)

"ASTP" begins EVERY chapter with a piece of "evidence" in the form of an actual Quran verse, sura, hadith, or expert quote from John Quincy Adams, Diana West, or Andy Bostom, for example. "The Canal" tells the true story (within a book of fiction) of a brave serviceman who served our country but was imprisoned 3 years ago due to inane rules of engagement during war times. And "AWRV" (rated R for language) is clearly a timely, gripping tale as well.

As John is self-published, his books (paperback & ebook) are available on amazon/kindle, and barnesandnoble. The only way for folks to read them is by patriot word of mouth. Do you think we can spread these awesome and informative books around our country through our public libraries? Would you please request all 3 titles in YOUR county?
Thanks!

Obama's Middle East map erases Israeli territory

From Jihad Watch / Posted by Robert Spencer

ObamaIsraelmap.jpg
One thing you have to give to Obama: he's consistent. And so are the many who refuse to see this consistency, or where it is tending. "Obama’s Middle East Map Erases Israeli Territory," from the Washington Free Beacon, March 18 (thanks to Pamela Geller):
The map of the Middle East displayed in an Obama administration video released days before President Barack Obama’s visit to Israel shows the Jewish state dispossessed of substantial parts of its current territory, including its capital.
The map of Israel, displayed repeatedly during the video, shows the Golan Heights, Jerusalem, northern Israel, and areas surrounding what is currently the West Bank as non-Israeli territory. The Golan Heights is shown as part of Syria; Jerusalem is shown as part of the West Bank; and northern Israel is shown as part of Lebanon.
The itinerary on the White House website also implies that Jerusalem is neither Israel’s capital nor even part of Israel.
The president’s schedule lists two stops in “Tel Aviv, Israel” and one in “Amman, Jordan” but his activities in Israel’s capital city are identified as taking place only in “Jerusalem” — with no country name attached. This keeps with a reluctantly-acknowledged administration policy of denying that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital or even a part of Israel.

A Real Term Limit

A Real Term Limit
The main thing wrong with the term limits movement is the "s" at the end of the word "limit."

What are advocates of term limits trying to accomplish? If they are trying to keep government from being run by career politicians, whose top priority is getting themselves reelected, then term limits on given jobs fail to do that.

When someone reaches the limit of how long one can spend as a county supervisor, then it is just a question of finding another political office to run for, such as a member of the state legislature. And when the limit on terms there is reached, it is time to look around for another political job -- perhaps as a mayor or a member of Congress.

Instead of always making reelection in an existing political post the top priority, in the last term in a given office the top priority will be doing things that will make it easier to get elected or appointed to the next political post. But in no term is doing what is right for the people likely to be the top priority.

Those who favor term limits are right to try to stop the same old politicians from staying in the same old offices for decades. But having the same career politicians circulating around in the same set of offices, like musical chairs, is not very different.

In either case, we can expect the same short-sighted policies, looking no further than the next election, and the same cynical arts of deception and log-rolling to get reelected at all costs.

There are undoubtedly some high-minded people who go into politics to serve their community or the nation. But, in the corrupting atmosphere of politics, there are too many who "came to do good and stayed to do well" -- especially if they stayed too long.

Recently, California's Senator Dianne Feinstein gave a graphic demonstration of what can happen when you have been in office too long.

During a discussion of Senator Feinstein's proposed legislation on gun control, Texas' freshman Senator Ted Cruz quietly and politely asked "the senior Senator from California" whether she would treat the First Amendment and the Fourth Amendment the same way her gun control bill was treating the Second Amendment, which guarantees the right to bear arms.

Senator Feinstein never addressed that question. Instead, she became testy and told Senator Cruz how long she had been in Congress and how much she knew. Watching her get up on her high horse to put him in his place, recalled the words of Cromwell to Members of Parliament: "You have sat too long for any good that you have been doing lately. ... In the name of God, go!"

Those who oppose term limits express fears of having government run by amateurs, rather than by people with long experience in politics. But this country was created by people who were not career politicians, but who put aside their own private careers to serve in office during a critical time.

When President George Washington was told by one of his advisors that an action he planned to take might prevent him from being reelected, he exploded in anger, telling his advisor that he didn't come here to get reelected.

As for the loss of experience and expertise if there were no career politicians, much -- if not most -- of that is experience and expertise in the arts of evasion, effrontery, deceit and chicanery. None of that serves the interest of the people.

If we want term limits to achieve their goals, we have to make the limit one term, with a long interval prescribed before the same person can hold any government office again. In short, we need to make political careers virtually impossible.

There are many patriotic Americans who would put aside their own private careers to serve in office, if the cost to them and their families were not ruinous, and if they had some realistic hope of advancing the interests of the country and its people without being obstructed by career politicians.

Is any of this likely today? No!

But neither the Reagan revolution nor the New Deal under FDR would have seemed likely three years before it happened. The whole point of presenting new ideas is to start a process that can make their realization possible in later years.

Disgraceful beyond words

TSA Humiliates Injured Marine

An active-duty Marine who lost both his legs to an Improvised Explosive Device was humiliated by TSA agents after he was forced to remove his prosthetic legs and was then ordered to stand so agents could inspect his wheelchair for explosives.

The incident prompted Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) to fire off a letter to John Pistole, the administrator of the Transportation Security Administration.

“The Marine, whose prosthetics were exposed, was humiliated,” Duncan wrote. “While I recognize the necessity to appropriately screen passengers, I am concerned by the apparent lack of situational awareness and respect among TSA officers – specifically when it comes to the treatment of war wounded.”

Last week a group of Marines recovering from war injuries at Balboa Naval Hospital and Camp Pendleton had been invited to watch a Spring Training baseball game in Phoenix.

On March 13 the Marines were stopped by TSA agents at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The Marine who lost his legs is confined to a wheelchair and had an escort.

Hunter said TSA agents ordered the Marine to one of two checkpoints – only to be told moments later that he should have enter the other checkpoint.

“A TSA officer asked the Marine to stand and walk to an alternate area, despite the fact that he physically could not stand or walk on his own,” the congressman said.

The Marine, who was not identified, was then forced to remove his legs and then put them back on. At that point he was directed to a secondary screening location.

The escort then photographed the TSA agent as they forced the Marine to again stand while they inspected his wheelchair for explosives.

The Marine, who is still on active duty, produced his military card, but it made no difference.
The Marine’s escort was so infuriated he contacted Hunter’s office.

TSA did not return calls seeking comment. However, according to their policy, passengers with prostheses can be screened without removing them.

The policy further states: “The passenger should inform the Transportation Security Officer (TSO) of the existence of a prosthetic, his or her ability, and of any need for assistance before screening begins.

Passengers can use TSA’s Notification Card to communicate discreetly with security officers. However, showing this card or other medical documentation will not exempt a passenger from additional screening when necessary.”

Rep. Hunter said there were a number of TSA officers sitting around who were “unwilling to assist” the injured war veteran.

Obama’s Keystone Kops
OFFICIAL WHITE HOUSE PHOTO BY CHUCK KENNEDY
President Barack Obama touted his energy plan at Argonne National Laboratory.
“The only way to break this cycle of spiking gas prices — the only way to break that cycle for good — is to shift our cars entirely, our cars and trucks, off oil.” — President Barack Obama, speaking at the Argonne National Laboratory on March 15

President Barack Obama has finally brought Congress together with one common goal: to oppose his ruinous energy policies. Perhaps he can unite grass-roots Americans the way no one has since King George III.

On Thursday, a bipartisan bill was introduced in the U.S. Senate that would give Congress the sole power to approve TransCanada Corp.’s Keystone XL pipeline project. It is essential to America’s national security in that it channels Canada’s vast oil sands to refineries and ports in Texas.

Senators John Hoeven (R-N.D.) and Max Baucus (D-Mont.) introduced the measure, which proposes to ensure the construction of the 800,000-barrels-per-day pipeline.

It is no surprise that the President is fighting back. White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters last week that since the pipeline will cross international borders, the decision for its approval belongs with the State Department. This is the latest example of how the President usurps the democratic process and seizes extraordinary powers, all for the good of the environmental movement.

The $5.3 billion Keystone pipeline has become the battleground for Canada’s oil sands. The combatants are the Greens and the realists. The latter understand that for the foreseeable future America needs secure supplies of petroleum and not the fantasy of windmills and electric cars.

The Greens continue to resist and insist the pipeline will expand the oil sands projects in Western Canada, leaving a dangerous carbon footprint upon the world.

The Problem with Pelosi

Not only would the Keystone pipeline greatly decrease America’s dependency on Mideast oil, but it would also create tens of thousands of new jobs at a time when unemployment lingers close to 8 percent.

Not so, said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat and environmental activist who continues to argue that the Keystone pipeline will not deliver many jobs.

“It just is amazing to me that they can say [Keystone would create] ‘tens of thousands of jobs and reduce our dependence on foreign oil,’” said Pelosi at a press briefing on Capitol Hill last week to oppose the bipartisanship in the Senate. “The oil is for export and the jobs are nowhere near that.”

The Keystone pipeline may not employ as many people as Pelosi does for her hairdos, clothes and facelifts; but at least it is a start. Contradictions from Pelosi abound. If she visited Saudi Arabia as opposed to any Western democracy like Canada (America’s most reliable ally and energy source), the women’s rights advocate would have to cover her face with a scarf and she couldn’t drive around in her gas-guzzling Chevy Suburban.*

Pelosi, Obama and green advocates continue to recklessly tie the Nation’s future to Islamic oil producers like Saudi Arabia, home to most of the 9/11 hijackers.

The chart below gives you an indication of Canada’s oil wealth. It doesn’t even include Canada’s oil sands reserves. If those figures are included, Canada has oil reserves five times larger than Saudi Arabia.

Incompetency Or Conspiracy?

In November, columnist Ezra Levant summed up Obama’s energy strategy in the Toronto Sun:
Barack Hussein Obama announced America’s new energy policy: He prefers Saudi conflict oil shipped in on tankers over Canadian ethical oil in a pipeline.
It’s a bizarre decision for the president of a country with 9% unemployment, that could use the thousands of well-paying jobs that will be created building the state-of-the-art pipeline.
It’s not just jobs and the property taxes that the pipeline will pay in perpetuity. It’s the energy security. There’s no risk of a Gadhafi-style revolution in Canada.
There’s no need to spend $1 billion on a Pentagon mission to secure Libyan conflict oil, with friendly Canada to the north.
But in some ways, Obama’s decision isn’t surprising. He has adamantly opposed drilling in northeast Alaska, though his own administration estimates that would provide an additional 800,000 barrels a day, almost as much as America imports from Saudi Arabia or Venezuela.
Obama doesn’t much like drilling in the Gulf of Mexico either — his moratorium there caused many deep-water rigs to move to other countries, costing more than 100,000 lost jobs in states like Louisiana, jobs that won’t come back for years.
I cannot fathom how the President is so ignorant of America’s energy and job needs. He continues to ignore the best interests of the Nation he swore to protect. Could it be there is something nefarious afoot in the Obama White House?

The party line was repeated Friday by Obama spokesman Josh Earnest, who declared that supporting projects such as the Argonne National Laboratory, where Obama was touring, is more important to America than petroleum.

The Argonne lab is just outside Obama’s home base of Chicago. Researchers there are working on advancing batteries for electric vehicles. It is part of Obama’s pledge to wean cars and trucks from oil.

The President has as much engineering expertise as I do, and I would wager that he has a lot less understanding of energy. Despite this, he has brazenly urged the establishment of a $2 billion clean energy fund over the next 10 years. How? Obama will redirect royalties the Federal government receives from offshore drilling along the Outer Continental Shelf toward research for electric vehicles, the very cars that I have derided.

Against all reason, the President continues to embrace Green energy while marginalizing Texas tea. He is robbing Peter to pay Judas.

So around and around we go with Obama, our vaulted leader who is in Jerusalem today kicking off his Mideast tour. He proposes to jump-start Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations and ease tensions in a region that sits atop two-thirds of the world’s conventional oil reserves and is on the brink of anarchy.

What Obama either doesn’t understand or understands all too well is that America’s national security needs are tied to petroleum. Without a lifeline from the Canadian oil sands, the inevitable will happen: the Mideast will explode while the U.S. economy, under the yoke of $10 per gallon gasoline, will implode.
In the end, the greatest threat to America may reside inside our borders at the very head of our government.

Yours in good times and bad.
Op-ed:
A must...keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill
By: Diane Sori

Yesterday while 'Prince Harry' announced that the so-called 'assault weapons ban' will NOT be part of the gun control legislation the Senate will be discussing next month (even though Diane Feinstein says she will try to get the ban as an amendment), Obama let it be known that he will indeed support the UN Treaty to Restrict Arms, which we all know would be used to regulate 'We the People's' firearms.

So while we firearm owners won one battle another looms (thanks to our Constitution trampling Traitor-in Chief) but what everyone still does NOT want to discuss is that here in America the biggest offenders of existing firearms laws are the mentally ill.

As Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's executive vice-president says, “it's still too easy for criminals and the dangerously ill to get their hands on guns.”

How right he is as both Congress and state legislatures continue debating what should be no-brainer proposals for increased supervision of the mentally ill along with mandatory reporting of those seen as a danger to themselves or others. But what's NOT generally known is that over the past four years, thanks to Barack HUSSEIN Obama, $4.35 billion was cut from Medicaid for mental-health funding, substance abuse, housing, and other mental-health programs at the state and federal level causing the system to be overburdened, so that the mentally ill are released back into our neighborhoods to put us in danger.

Remember, Obama has to be able to funnel dollars from somewhere into the freebies and handouts to keep his sheeple in line you know.

And while governors and lawmakers across the political spectrum, in the wake of Newtown, push for more dollars to help those with mental illness, especially in light of the fact that a major 2011 study shows that states that make it easier to treat people with mental illness have lower murder rates, the mentally ill are still legally able to purchase firearms in all 50 states.

And into this conundrum now comes Senator Lindsey Graham (SC-R), a man who has been wrong on a lot of issues lately, who last week proposed legislation that would help keep firearms out of the hands of the mentally ill, and on this particular issue I feel he is 'dead on'...and I use that term specifically because if something isn't done about the mentally ill securing firearms a lot more people will die.

And while I'm 100% in support of the Second Amendment and our right to keep and bear arms, and I'm totally against the lefts so wanted gun control measures, including any universal background checks (which is simply a rouse to create a national gun registry so Obama can confiscate 'We the People's' firearms whenever he wants...or so he thinks), I strongly believe that firearms of any kind must be kept out of the hands of the mentally ill...for our safety and our children's safety.

Now I know all the bleeding heart liberals will say that the mentally ill have just as many rights as we do but I say the rights of the sane trump the rights of the mentally ill as we have the right to be safe from those whose very instability can cause us bodily harm...or worse. Add to that the fact that 80% of Americans support laws to prevent mentally ill people from purchasing guns, and it's obvious I'm NOT alone in my belief.

“I believe that the best way to interrupt the shooter is to have a mental health system that actually records and enters into the database people who should not be able to buy a gun,” Graham said.

Senator Graham's proposal addresses just that. Beginning with requiring that people deemed mentally ill be added to the National Instant Criminal Background System (the database for all new gun sales), Graham feels would be a start to keeping the general public safe as people with severe mental illness, like schizophrenia, are up to three times more likely to be violent. And 1,000 homicides or more a year are committed by people with severe mental illnesses like schizophrenia.

Remember, most mass shooters, including the Virgina Tech shooter, the Aurora Movie Massacre shooter and the Newtown shooter were indeed mentally ill, and their families knew it and they were being treated to one degree or another yet they still were able to get guns...in the Aurora shooters case he bought them legally both in gun shops and online. Graham's proposal calls for individuals such as this to be added to the database along with those posing an imminent danger to themselves or others, those found guilty but mentally ill in a criminal case, those found guilty by reason of insanity, those found incompetent to stand trial, those committed to a psychiatric hospital or required to have psychiatric outpatient treatment...and these shooters met at least one if NOT more of these criteria.

According to Graham's proposal, those being banned from owning or purchasing firearms would be decided by the courts, and hopefully the many bleeding heart liberal judges currently presiding would realize that it's been proven that the rates of so-called 'gun violence' balances closely with the mentally ill having accessibility to firearms.

And while Federal laws (some going back to 1968) currently mandate background checks to help keep convicted felons and people with mental illnesses from legally acquiring guns (no one can stop the illegal purchases), these restrictions only apply to firearms purchased by licensed dealers but NOT through private sales, and unfortunately, these records are NOT present in the federal database, because states aren't sharing enough information. Graham's proposal would help close that gap.

But I'd like to add one more thing to Senator Graham's proposal, and that is that any parent with a mentally ill child living in their home should have their firearms locked up at ALL times that child is present in the home. Twenty children and six adults might still be alive in Newtown today if that was the case. But please note that I said 'locked up' NOT surrender their firearms as that would violate the parent's Second Amendment rights.

And so the gun control debate rages on and hopefully fails on all accounts except for this issue with the mentally ill for as Florida Senator Marco Rubio says. “... Rolling back responsible citizens’ rights is not the proper response to tragedies committed by criminals and the mentally ill.”

How right he is and remember...guns don't kill people, people kill people...and only mentally ill people commit mass murder as NO sane person goes out to deliberately slaughter innocents.
