When the US government's National Counterterrorism Center compiled its annual report for 2009, it didn't overlook the deadliest terror attack on American soil since 9/11.

"On 5 November 2009, at 1:30 PM, in Fort Hood, Texas," the report notes in its chronology of "high-fatality terrorist attacks" — those that took at least 10 lives — "an armed assailant entered the Fort Hood Soldier Readiness Processing Center and opened fire, killing one civilian and 12 soldiers, wounding seven civilians, 17 soldiers, and 18 [other] people, and damaging the facility.… No group claimed responsibility, although authorities believed an unaffiliated Sunni extremist was responsible."

That "armed assailant" was Major Nidal Malik Hasan, an Army psychiatrist who bluntly admits perpetrating that day's massacre as an act of war against the United States. On the first day of his court-martial this month, Hasan told jurors: "The evidence will clearly show I am the shooter."

Military rules bar the accused in a court-martial from pleading guilty to a capital crime even if he wants to, so a plea of not guilty was entered on Hasan's behalf by the judge, Colonel Tara Osborne.

But Hasan, who is representing himself, has consistently maintained that he slaughtered his Fort Hood comrades out of loyalty to jihadists in Afghanistan.

"I was on the wrong side of America's war, and I later switched sides," Hasan said in his opening statement. "We in the mujahideen are imperfect beings trying to establish a perfect religion." A few days before the court-martial got underway, Hasan disavowed his US citizenship and the oath he took as an Army officer. During a pretrial proceeding in June, Hasan told the judge he wished to mount a "defense of others" strategy in responding to the charges he faces. When Osborn asked whom he was defending, Hasan replied: "The leadership of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan — the Taliban."

Yet virtually from the hour it happened, the Defense Department insisted on calling the Fort Hood shooting an episode of "workplace violence," not of terrorism or war — a rhetorical dodge that reeked of political correctness. But when the Pentagon insisted in March that the Fort Hood victims were not entitled to receive Purple Hearts, that PC disingenuousness became something worse: a betrayal.

The Army's justification was that issuing the decoration to the Fort Hood casualties could undermine the shooter's right to due process, by implying that the victims had been killed or wounded in an action against an enemy of the United States. That might enable defense counsel to "argue that Major Hasan cannot receive a fair trial because a branch of government has indirectly declared that Major Hasan is a terrorist." Besides, the Pentagon added, the Purple Heart is for those hurt by America's international foes; it shouldn't be expanded to domestic criminal or terror attacks.

Such circular reasoning never passed the smell test. As noted, the National Counterterrorism Center identified Hasan's bloodbath early on as a "high-fatality terrorist attack." And no one denied Purple Hearts to the "domestic" casualties in the Pentagon on 9/11.

But even if there had been some scrap of merit to the notion that the gunman's due-process rights could be compromised by awarding Purple Hearts to his victims, it has been completely obliterated by Hasan's conduct during his court-martial. He has done everything within his power to make it clear beyond a shadow of a doubt that he opened fired on US soldiers with the explicit purpose of aiding America's enemies. He identifies himself as a jihadist. He declares that he "switched sides."

He renounces his citizenship.

What Hasan perpetrated at Fort Hood was not "workplace violence," it was an act of war. And American military personnel killed or wounded by the enemy have been entitled since the time of George Washington to the recognition conferred by the Purple Heart.

At a memorial service five days after Hasan's lethal assault, President Obama eulogized those who had died. "This is a time of war," he said. One by one he described those who had given the last full measure of devotion. "Here, at Fort Hood, we pay tribute to 13 men and women who were not able to escape the horror of war, even in the comfort of home."

To deny the victims of Hasan's attack the medal they earned with their lives or blood is no way to pay that tribute. They deserve better from their commander-in-chief — and their nation.

It's a good thing our current administration wasn't around in the 4th century when St. Basil of Caesarea invented what writer George Grant calls "the first non-ambulatory hospital" in history, i.e., a medical facility with beds.

Pouring forth the love of Jesus Christ, the good saint who lived in the Mediterranean port city northwest of Jerusalem is credited with this humanitarian development of the institution of the hospital. Roberto Margotta, author of The Story of Medicine, says of Basil's hospital, that the "rule of love" prevailed, with the "care and comfort of the sick."

The longest lasting hospital that still operates (no pun intended) is Hotel Dieu (i.e., God Hospital) in Paris founded in the year of our Lord 600. It borders Notre Dame Cathedral.

In the New World, the oldest, still-operating medical facility is Jesus of Nazareth Hospital in Mexico City, founded in 1524.

In many other places and times, Christians of various stripes started all sorts of hospitals and health clinics. That's true across the globe. Even to this day, many hospitals show their Christian origin in their very name. Good Samaritan. Holy Cross. Christ. Baptist. Bethesda. St. Mary’s.

Some hospitals are named after St. Luke (e.g., St. Luke Presbyterian, Rush St. Luke) because the author of the third Gospel and Acts was a doctor. He was even Paul’s doctor.

Many people of good will, regardless of their religious convictions (or the lack thereof), are involved in the healing of the sick. Christian charity (that is, voluntary love for the Lord and for others) was what historically motivated so many of the great developments in organized health care in the first place, and that remains true to some degree today.

It's disturbing, then, to learn that the government's takeover of the health care system will likely punish charity hospitals in the future. In short, Obamacare could be bad for our health.

A headline in the Daily Caller notes, "Obamacare installs new scrutiny, fines for charitable hospitals that treat uninsured people" (8/8/13). Patrick Hawley reports: "Charitable hospitals that treat uninsured Americans will be subjected to new levels of scrutiny of their nonprofit status and could face sizable new fines under Obamacare."

The fines could be as stiff as $50,000 "if they fail to meet bureaucrats’ standards," he writes.

Hawley adds, "A new provision in Section 501 of the Internal Revenue Code, which takes effect under Obamacare, sets new standards of review and installs new financial penalties for tax-exempt charitable hospitals, which devote a minimum amount of their expenses to treat uninsured poor people. Approximately 60 percent of American hospitals are currently nonprofit."

I thought Obamacare was supposedly about providing health care for the poor and uninsured. It seems to me this is more about government control than it is about helping people.

Dr. David Stevens is the president of the Christian Medical and Dental Associations, located in Bristol, Tennessee. They represent about 16,500 members and are in contact regularly with over 30,000 physicians and dentists. I’ve interviewed him a few times for radio and TV.

He once told me, "All three of my children work with a health care ministry in inner-city Memphis. They’re motivated by their faith, and they sacrifice every day, not only at their work place; but they live [there], right with the people that they serve because of their faith."

But enter Obamacare with its stifling regulations in the health care field, and such good works could be ultimately discouraged to satisfy the bureaucracy.

Dr. Stevens observes: "...if ever we needed Christians in health care, it’s now; but unfortunately, we’re putting a system into place that ultimately could drive them out of health care." For example, if laws forced them to violate their conscience.

He laments, "That’s scary, especially as we look at the bioethical issues we’re facing on physician-assisted suicide, embryonic stem cell research, abortion, and the list just goes on and on---where having a doctor that shares your Christian worldview is going to become more and more important in beginning-of-life care and in end-of-life care."

Stevens adds, "We need health care reform, but we need to attack the real problem---out-of- control costs---not open the doors for millions and millions of more people at this point to enter the system and increase costs even more. We need to deal with access, but if we can get costs under control, it’s going to be cheaper for everyone, the insured now and those that can be insured when the cost is lower."

Driving conscientious Christians out of health care is the worst thing that could happen to that field, yet it seems that Obamacare regulations could end up doing just that. Ironically, at the same time many are losing their jobs because of Obamacare and may need charitable health care.

I remember in the comedy record, "The First Family" in the early 1960s, where comedian Vaughn Meader did a masterful job imitating JFK. At a mock press conference, a reporter asks "JFK" what his solution would be to the coming social security crisis. Meader's reply as JFK was, "Try to stay young." Applying the same humorous logic to today: What's the solution to health care crisis, should Obamacare go fully into effect? "Don’t get sick."

Sadly, more government bureaucracy in the health care field may ultimately drive out that spirit which gave birth to much of it in the first place.

Expert: Israel attack on Iran imminent

'There are about 1,100 hard targets that have to be taken out'

Mike Evans / WND Radio

Clashes between the Egyptian military and supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood left scores dead and hundreds injured this week, and Middle East expert Dr. Mike Evans says the turmoil will eventually lead to an Egyptian civil war.

He also blasted the Obama administration for its handling of Egypt and the Israeli-Palestinian crisis and predicted an Israeli military strike on Iran’s nuclear program very soon.

Evans is a longtime Middle East scholar and is a decades-long friend of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He told WND radical Islamic elements will keep fighting for their cause and that almost certainly means much more misery for Egypt.

“You’ll have civil war, ultimately, in Egypt. There’s no question about it,” he said. “It’s not over yet. This is a battle for Islam. It’s not about Democracy. It never was.”

He said the fight is really between radical Sunni and Shiite elements, both of whom want to establish a Middle East caliphate. He said the Shiites want to have Iran as the anchor of the caliphate, and Sunnis were hoping to have their base in a Muslim Brotherhood-controlled Egypt.

Millions of Egyptians took to the streets to demand the removal of Mohammed Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood government in June and early July. The military responded by removing Morsi from power July 3. But while popular sentiment seems to be on the side of the military, Evans said the Muslim Brotherhood is very skilled at molding public opinion.

“About one-third of the population is uneducated and another two-thirds are unemployed. About 60 percent of the population are young people. The mullahs and madrassas are emboldening them and dumbing them down. It’s a real problem,” said Evans, who fears greatly for the Christian population in Egypt.

“They’re in the crosshairs,” he said. “It’s the same way in the Palestinian territories. They’re hated, they’re despised, they’re considered aligned with the West. It’s a battle.”

Evans is also rolling his eyes over the latest U.S. efforts to foster peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians. The initial round consists of low-level talks set up by Secretary of State John Kerry.

“You’ve got John Kerry on his white horse, trying to save the day by forcing Israel to release terrorists and make peace with the Palestinians, who don’t want peace,” Evans said. “Netanyahu told me personally that there’s things he would not allow: territories, treaties, an army or airspace. In order for the Palestinians to have a state, they have to have treaties. They have to have an army. They’ve got to have airspace. The prime minister will never ever give that up. It’s just not going to happen.

“It’s wrong for Kerry to come in there and give them false expectations, because when he does that he gets people killed. They revert back to the terror card and Jews die,” he said.

So how would Evans sum up the Obama administration’s performance on Middle East policy?

“Barack Obama is Jimmy Carter on steroids. Clinton had it right when he said it was a fairy tale. He doesn’t have any comprehension of what he’s trying to sell. He wants Islam to have their equal rights.

He doesn’t understand what they will do with those equal rights,” Evans said.

The Iranian nuclear program is still hanging over the region and the world as well. Evans said covert Israeli activity caused quite a bit of delay in Iran. Despite that, he said Iran is a “screwdriver away from going nuclear.” As a result, he said Israel will soon be forced to take pre-emptive action.

“Israel’s going to do it. Israel will be the U.S. proxy. They’re going to have to do the attack. What Israel’s hoping for is the United States will give them backup for retaliatory targets. There are about 1,100 hard targets that have to be taken out,” said Evans, who believes the U.S. will provide that support. But he’s convinced the Israeli attack is only a matter of time.

“Everything is on for the attack. It’s going to happen. Something very significant has to happen to stop it,” he said. “It’s definitely on the calendar.”

Allen West Calls for Select Committee to Investigate Benghazi

Ret. Lt. Col. Allen West is calling for a select committee to investigate the events in Libya surrounding the bombing last September of the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi.

"We've got a lot of questions. This is why I believe we have to have that select committee to get to the bottom of these incidents," the former Florida Republican Congressman said Wednesday on "Fox & Friends."

"Right now we have had this investigation across five different committees in the House of Representatives. We have not gotten anywhere," he said.

"If we have one focused committee with subpoena powers that can get the survivors from Benghazi, get some of these CIA agents and operatives. And I think you need to depose Hillary Clinton and bring her back and talk about why Ambassador Chris Stevens was in Benghazi on the 11th anniversary of September 11," he said.

West's newest appeal comes in light of a report Monday from an attorney representing whistleblowers claiming that 400 American surface-to-air missiles were 'taken from Libya' during the Benghazi attack.

"Where did these surface-to-air missiles come from? Were they part of (former dictator Moammar) Gaddafi's stash?  Or somehow were we trying to funnel weapons through Libya to Turkey, into Syria?" West questioned.

"The president needs to tell us why his direct representative in a foreign country was in Benghazi. Hillary Clinton needs to come clean about why was the ambassador there," he said.

"Camp Jihad": U.N.-sponsored camps encourage "Palestinian" kids to destroy Israel

From Jihad Watch / Posted by Robert Spencer

Your tax dollars at work, indoctrinating the next generation of jihadis. "‘Camp Jihad’: U.N.-Sponsored Camps Encourage Palestinian Kids to Destroy Israel," by Sharona Schwartz for The Blaze, August 14:
Summer at United Nations-funded camps in Gaza and the northern West Bank include playing with parachutes, jumping on trampolines, and racing down inflatable slides.
In between those kid-friendly activities, counselors convey belligerent, anti-Semitic lessons to the children who are repeatedly taught to take back “their land” Palestine by means of war, martyrdom and jihad, as seen in a new video.
 See the video here: http://www.jihadwatch.org/2013/08/camp-jihad-un-sponsored-camps-encourage-palestinian-kids-to-destroy-israel.html
All this is being sponsored by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) which is funded predominantly by the United States and the European Union, according to a video called “Camp Jihad” released this summer by the Nahum Bedein Center for Near East Policy Research, which documents some of the activities at the camps.
“Peace starts here” is the camps’ motto, according to the video excerpts of which were aired on Israel’s Channel 2 Tuesday night.
The campers are third- or fourth-generation descendants of Arabs who either fled or were forced out of their homes during the 1948 war when Arab armies attacked Israel after it declared independence. None of them has ever visited their ancestral “homes,” yet their schools and camps promote the notion that they will one day violently uproot “the Jews” whom their teachers compare to wolves.
Ahmad Souje, a counselor at the Balata camp near Nablus, told the film crew, “The only alternative to implement the ‘right of return’ is blood for blood, an eye for an eye. In the same way they expelled us, we will expel them.”
Shahed Arja, a girl attending the UNRWA camp in Gaza said, “This summer camp teaches us that we have to liberate Palestine.”
In the video, teachers paint an idyll image of their ancestors frolicking on the beach, sailing in their boats and living in “villas” before 1948.
While they were having fun, a “wolf” suddenly appeared.
“Who is the wolf? The Jews? Isn’t it true that the Jews are the wolf? What did the Jews do to us? They expelled us and deported us. They killed us and shot our families,” one of the adults tells the children.
One camper says, “Weapons will accelerate the right of return.
Another little girl Tayma says, “I will defeat the Jews…They are a gang of infidels and Christians. They do not like Allah and do not worship Allah. And they hate us.
Wasim Abu Shaban, another UNRWA camper in Gaza says, “I must return to my land and reconquer it. This is my right.”
A camper at the Balata summer camp sings: “When we die as martyrs we go up to heaven…in Palestine there is no childhood.”
The children explain that their bunks and teams are named after the cities in Israel from which their ancestors allegedly came, including Haifa, Jaffa and Acre which are Israeli cities they believe to be Palestinian. At the camp, they draw maps of Palestine which cover the entire territory of Israel and build kites inscribed with the names of “their villages.”
“We teach the children about the villages that they came from…This way, every child will be motivated to return to their village,” UNRWA camp director Amina Hinawi said.
Camper Mohammed Jamal said, “No to negotiations. Attacking stage-by-stage is not the right way. If we attack them altogether at once that will be the answer.
The video shows one teacher leading the children in a chant: “Palestine is an Arab land from the river to the sea! We want Haifa. We want Acre. We’re going to Al Aqsa (Jerusalem).”
Campers, teachers and counselors talk about the “right of return,” going back to villages that no longer exist where Israelis live, emphasizing their state of limbo.
Campers in the video are seen chanting, “Praise Jerusalem, It is the best city on earth!”
Long live Palestine!”
“We will return to our villages with power and honor. With Allah’s help we will and our own strength we will wage war. And with education and Jihad we will return,” one staffer tells the children gathered around.
“Me and my children are returning to Al Aqsa (Jerusalem) our homeland….I will not forget my promise to take back my land,” sing the campers.
In 2011, the U.S. was the largest single donor to UNRWA contributing more than $239 million. The U.S. and the European Union together provided about 42 per cent of UNRWA’s total income for its core program budget, according to UNRWA’s website....

And this is who Obama supports...

Egypt: Muslim Brotherhood supporters attack 22 churches

From Jihad Watch / Posted by Robert Spencer

Meanwhile, the Brotherhood's supporters in the U.S. continue to claim the moral high ground, aided by a bored, lazy, compliant and compromised media. "Egypt, Muslim Brotherhood assaults 22 Christian churches," from Asia News, August 14:
Cairo (AsiaNews) - The Muslim Brotherhood's anger for the forced evacuation of the pro-Mohamed Morsi sit-ins has been unleashed against Christians. In the last few hours, the Islamists have attacked seven Catholic churches and a full fifteen religious structures of the Coptic-Orthodox Church and the Protestant church. The attacks took place in Cairo and in the governorate of Sohag (Upper Egypt). The news was announced by Fr. Rafic Greiche, spokesperson for the Egyptian Catholic Church, who underlined the fact that the Western media has remained silent about the attacks. At the moment it is unclear whether any persons have been injured or killed.
The reprisal occurred immediately after last night's clashes in the neighborhoods of Nadha and Rabaa al-Adawiya, in the capital, and in Alessandria, el-Fayum and Suez, where the police brought in bulldozers to level the camps organized in the last few weeks by the Muslim Brotherhood. 95 persons died in the attack, according to army sources.
To avoid chaos, the Egyptian government has declared a state of emergency. (S.C.)

Op-ed:
Egypt alone will decide its fate
By: Diane Sori

So now it seems that things aren’t going too well in Egypt as Cairo descends into chaos…as Egypt is on the verge of becoming a failed state…and Obama and his outward support for the Muslim Brotherhood built this.

Today, the Egyptian military rulers declared a month-long state of emergency along with a nighttime curfew…Obama of course condemning both…after 149 people were killed when government security forces took control of Muslim Brotherhood protest camps.

And while outwardly the Muslim Brotherhood is whining that the military is using snipers and tanks against peaceful protesters, in actuality the protesters are anything but peaceful as their leaders are mobilizing their supporters to fight against the military ‘for the sake of islam’…as in this is a holy war…this is jihad.

Another Arab Spring turned Arab Winter that could turn back into an Arab Spring...if Obama butts out.

And it’s about time that Obama supported Muslim Brotherhood ‘puppet’ President Morsi and his followers understand that he will NOT be re-instated as president, period. And it’s way passed time for the Muslim Brotherhood itself to go, and government security forces are assuring just that as they continue arresting not just top leaders but also mid-level leaders, for it’s been made clear that once secular Egypt will NOT become an islamic state.

And of course some in the international community have denounced the current wave of violence…violence fueled NOT only by the Muslim Brotherhood but by Hamas as well. In fact, UK Foreign Secretary William Hague said he was “deeply concerned at the escalating violence”.

“I condemn the use of force in clearing protests and call on the security forces to act with restraint,” he said.

And while the Obama administration continues to avoid calling the overthrow of Morsi a ‘coup’…which would result in an automatic Congressional ban on US aid to the Egyptian military government now in control…Obama’s people are bloviating what they think are forceful words to condemn the growing violence.

“The US strongly condemns the use of violence against protesters in Egypt,” said White House deputy press secretary Josh Earnest. “We have repeatedly called on Egypt security forces to show restraint…just as we’ve urged protesters to demonstrate peacefully,” he said.

And Obama mouthpiece, Secretary of State John ‘Swiftboat' Kerry, continues to butt into Egypt’s business by spouting off that the events of the past few days were “deplorable” and “a real blow to reconciliation efforts” and that “violence and continued political polarization will further tear the Egyptian economy apart.”

What Egyptian economy…Morsi essentially destroyed any semblance of an economy during his year in office.

And these people…the likes of Obama, Kerry, and Hague… just do NOT understand that force is the only thing these Muslim Brotherhood barbarians understand. And while they might NOT like it, the Egyptian military rulers are doing exactly what they need to do to assure a final peace…for they are simply sending a powerful message to their opponents to give up. And ad hoc policy responses by the Obama administration and empty words by foreigners are NOT going to cut it anymore as sometimes force in the wake of violence is exactly what’s needed to end the violence.

This basic paradigm pervades political thought in Egypt right now where those in power will do whatever is needed to restore law and order. And anyway NOTHING Obama or his people say means anything for Obama is NOT respected anywhere in the Middle East…or elsewhere in the world for that matter.

And as Middle East politics in general, and Egyptian politics in specific, become more and more complicated with each passing day, the truth is that the Egyptian crisis is indeed mostly of Obama’s doing for the man who in June 2009 was in Cairo extolling the virtues of democracy, freedom, and human rights did just the opposite when he supported the Muslim Brotherhood both with rhetoric and with military equipment (the F-16s and Abrams tanks). The Muslim Brotherhood...a group of thugs who ‘won’ an election the same way he did…through fraud and ballot tampering.

And Obama’s support of thugs sent a powerful message to the Egyptian people that the American government was NOT on their side.

So failed policies…wrong sides taken…and hair-splitting over the word ‘coup’…all show Washington’s impotency in regards to Egypt…all show that it will be up to the Egyptian people themselves to decide their own future…their own destiny…as the violence will likely continue for some time NO matter what words are said…NO matter if Obama continues the military aid or NOT…for Egypt is at the crossroads of freedom if only Barack HUSSEIN Obama gets out of their way.
