Obama's Hope: Cancellations Will Continue

By DICK MORRIS / DickMorris.com

President Obama's program of misleading the American people continued today when he proposed allowing insurance companies to rescind cancellations of insurance policies for a year.

His proposal is a way to have his cake and eat it too.

By leaving it up to the insurance companies to decide on whether or not to cancel, he clearly knows and hopes that they will proceed with the cancellations.

He thinks they will because, obviously, they make more money if they force people into higher premium ObamaCare plans than if they renew the lower premium private coverage now in force.  In addition, insurance companies will not want to go through the administrative hassles and unreimbursed costs of backtracking on cancellations that may now be several months old.

Obama wants the cancellations to stand.  The more cancellations, the more people will have to enroll in ObamaCare at the exchanges.  It would be the only way they could continue health insurance.  Now that voluntary enrollments are lagging so badly, his only hope for decent participation levels is to cancel tens of millions of policies and force people onto ObamaCare.

He is also making a skillful political maneuver to make the insurance companies take the hit for cancellations by giving them the option of not proceeding with them.  Now, he can escape voter anger for cancellations and blame them on the insurance companies -- a populist posture with which he is familiar and loves to assume.

He hopes that free market Republicans will agree that the government must not tell companies that they cannot cancel policies.  He hopes that insurance company influence stops the GOP from embracing that position.

He may be right.  The legislation introduced by Congressman Fred Upton has the same flaw as the Obama Plan in that it provides that insurance carriers "may" renew policies that don't meet ObamaCare standards.

What is needed is the Landrieu bill which requires insurance companies to rescind the cancellations.

This entire controversy is going to be revisited next year when employer plans begin to fall to cancellation.  All the fixes -- Obama's, Upton's, and Landrieu's -- all extend only to individual policies.  But while about ten million individual policies are likely to be cancelled (five million already have bitten the dust), estimates suggest that an additional 20-40 million policies will be cancelled by employers, primarily by small businesses that are not required to provide coverage.

The precedent we are setting now on individual policies will guide how we handle the employer policies when they come due.

If we can stop those cancellations, nobody will sign up for ObamaCare and the program will quickly become virtually vestigial.

The Individual Versus The Planned Society

At the outbreak of World War II, the Council on Foreign Relations began making plans for the post-war world.

The question it posed was this: Could America exist as a self-sufficient nation, or would it have to go outside its borders for vital resources?

Predictably, the answer was: imperial empire.

The United States would not only need to obtain natural resources abroad, it would have to embark on endless conquest to assure continued access.

The CFR, of course, wasn’t just some think tank. It was connected to the highest levels of U.S. government, through the State Department. A front for Rockefeller interests, it actually stood above the government.

Behind all its machinations was the presumption that planned societies were the future of the planet — not open societies.

Through wars, clandestine operations, legislation, treaties, manipulation of nations’ debt, and control of banks and money supplies, countries could be turned into “managed units.”

Increasingly, the populations of countries would be regulated and directed and held in thrall to the state.

And the individual? He would go the way of other extinct species.

For several decades, the pseudo-discipline called “social science” had been turning out reams of studies and reports on tribes, societal groupings and so-called classes of people.

Deeply embedded in the social sciences were psychological warfare specialists who, after World War II, emerged with a new academic status and new field of study: mass communications.

Their objective? The broadcasting of messages that would, in accordance with political goals, provoke hostility or pacified acceptance in the masses — hostility in support of new wars and acceptance of greater domestic government control.

Nowhere in these formulas was the individual protected. He was considered a wild card, a loose cannon; and he needed to be demeaned, made an outsider and characterized as a criminal who opposed the needs of the collective.

As the years and decades passed, this notion of the collective and its requirements, in a “humane civilization,” expanded. Never mind that out of view, the rich were getting richer and poor were getting poorer. That fact was downplayed, and the cover story — “share and care” — took center stage.

On every level of society, people were urged to think of themselves as part of a greater group. The individual and his hopes, his unique dreams, his desires and energies, his determination and willpower were all portrayed as relics of an unworkable and deluded past.

In many cases, lone pioneers who were innovating in directions that could, in fact, benefit all of humanity, were absorbed into the one body of the collective, heralded as humane and then dumped on the side of the road with their inventions.

Their breakthroughs could upset favored monopolies and actually elevate the lives of people.

Therefore, men like Nikola Tesla and Buckminster Fuller had to be buried.

In other cases, there was very little praise before burial: Wilhelm Reich, Dr. William Frederick Koch, Royal Rife.

In the planned society, no one rises above the mass, except those men who run, operate and propagandize the mass.

In order to affect the illusion of individual success, as a kind of safety valve for the yearnings of millions of people, the cult of celebrity emerged. But even there, extraordinary tales of rise and then precipitous fall, glory and then humiliation, were and are presented as cautionary melodramas.

The onrush of technocracy gears its wild promises to genetic manipulation, brain-machine interfaces, and other automatic downloads assuring “greater life.” No effort required. Plug in, and ascend to new heights.

If the individual has any place in this future, it is: working at a job, keeping his or her head down, supporting the family, gradually wearing down, and dying. In more and more cases, the job is within, or attached to, government.

Freedom? Independence? Old flickering dreams vicariously viewed on a screen.

Individual greatness, imagination, creative power? A sunken galleon loaded with treasure that, upon closer investigation, was never there to begin with.

The plan is all that is important. The plan involves universal surveillance, in order to map the lives of billions of people, move by move. In order to design systems of control within which those billions live, day to day.

But the worst outcome of all is: The individual cannot even conceive of his own life and future in large terms. The individual responds to tighter and control with a shrug, as if to say, “What difference does it make?”

He has bought the collectivist package. His own uniqueness and inner resources are submerged under layers of passive acceptance of the consensus.

And make no mistake about it, this consensus reality, for all its exaltation of the group, is not heraldic in any sense. The propagandized veneer covers a cynical exploitation of every man, woman and child.

Strapped by amnesia about his own freedom and what it can truly mean, the individual opts for a place in the collective gloom. He may grumble and complain, but he fits in.

He can’t remember another possibility.

Every enterprise in which he finds himself turns out to be a pale copy of the real thing.

This is why I have been so critical of the recent ballot initiatives urging labeling of genetically modified food. The group, in this case, is the mass of consumers, people who buy. This is the apotheosis of a movement against a titan, a monster, Monsanto. “Know what you buy, know what you eat, and we will triumph over evil.”

The prospect of victory on these terms is, in the long run, non-existent. Why? Because the deep energies and power and desire for freedom remain untapped.

Based on supposed knowledge of what works in the political arena, the men who have been dictating the terms of the “good message” are shortchanging this opportunity.

As businessmen, they are tuned to the marketplace. But that is not where this struggle really lives. It lives in the hidden places of every repressed individual who wants out, who wants to come back to himself, who wants to stride out on a stage and take the battle to the enemy.

And these failed political campaigns are an example of what millions of people in this country want on a much broader level.

They want freedom and power again. They want to feel alive. They want to feel they’re fighting and winning in the true space where the heart and soul of the struggle can be experienced in the deepest way, where their own amnesia shatters and they remember who they are and they see what evil is trying to accomplish, in order to keep them in a trance.

When a political campaign taps into that, it will have legs. It will have legs and wings, it will mean something about victory in this stolen nation.

And it will mean that the extinct individual returns.

And rightly so...

Op-ed:
The ObamaCare nightmare of LIES and deceit continues
By: Diane Sori

Oh the shame of it all as one day after the Obama administration announced that only 26,794 people had enrolled in ObamaCare, in a calculatingly and vicious move against the American people…a move done solely to try and salvage the 2014 elections for the Democrats…Barack HUSSEIN Obama, looking defeated and dejected, did what he does best as he again LIED and deceived the American people at yesterday’s press conference.

You know what press conference…the one he was over a half hour late to.

Facing a bi-partisan revolt over ObamaCare…his now on life support signature piece of legislation …with its forced cancellation of five million private insurance policies that people were happy with…Obama offered an administrative fix instead of a legislative fix that would have allowed Republican input and a possible overturn of ObamaCare as some Democrats…especially those up for re-election in 2014…are now outwardly siding with the Republican’s belief that ObamaCare has fundamental flaws that cannot be fixed.

So bowing to pressure from five million outraged former policy holders and panicky Democrats, Obama began his bloviations but only after sidetracking with talk about the Philippine disaster... which he should have talked about when it first happened...Obama said towards the beginning of his ObamaCare statement something that should send chills down every American’s spines and I quote, “If you had plans that you liked before the Affordable Care Act went into effect, even if those policies had changes, and if people bought plans they liked after the Affordable Care Act went into effect, you can keep those plans into 2014.”

Let me repeat that statement again and pay close attention to the last seven words, “If you had plans that you liked before the Affordable Care Act went into effect, even if those policies had changes, and if people bought plans they liked after the Affordable Care Act went into effect, you can keep those plans into 2014.”

Seven words that say it all…"YOU CAN KEEP THOSE PLANS INTO 2014″…NO mention…NONE...of keeping the private plans you belong to and like beyond 2014…as in right after the 2014 mid-term elections everybody goes into ObamaCare whether they like it or NOT!

One year…keep your plans for but one year as Obama NOT so subtly hinted that he would oppose the House Republican plan that is being presented today…a plan that would let people keep their current policies for longer than just one year...saying it would undercut and undermine the structure of ObamaCare.

But you cannot undercut or undermine a structure that does NOT and cannot work for we taxpayers cannot afford to float this monstrosity just to appease Barack HUSSEIN Obama’s oh so wanted health care legacy and his narcissistic ego.

So I hope those seven words and their ramifications really sink in for these very important seven words layout what Obama is actually doing…and that is that states and insurers can extend current policies canceled under ObamaCare for one year and one year alone…thus cleverly delaying ObamaCare’s full implementation until AFTER the 2014 elections and NOTHING more…and he hopes this morsel will NOT only deflect some of the fallout off of those Democrats up for re-election but will placate Republicans..at least for awhile anyway.

Sorry but it will NOT on either account.

“Americans whose plans have been canceled can choose to re-enroll,” Obama said but truth be told he cannot make that happen…only the insurance companies can and only if they choose to do so for Obama cannot just order the pressing of a restart button as he changes the rules of the game in mid-stream…changes the rules concerning policies that have already been lost due to cancellations by private insurance companies. This means those private companies can tell Obama to take a hike if they so choose, because he does NOT have the legal right or authority to tell private insurance companies to take back people they’ve already cancelled….especially since some of these private companies have already left the private health coverage business and all because of ObamaCare. Because of ObamaCare and all its outright stupid mandated coverages…like maternity care for ALL men and menopausal women…like covering the cost of gender reassignment…like teetotalers carrying alcohol rehab coverage.

Need I go on…

And while Obama bloviated of mistakes being made in having those policies cancelled to begin with…mistakes he said that should NOT have happened because ‘supposedly’ private health care policies that people were happy with were ‘grandfathered’ in under ObamaCare…he deliberately left out the fact that the ‘grandfathering’ clause was taken OUT of ObamaCare immediately AFTER ObamaCare was passed back in 2010.

”We fumbled the roll-out,” Obama said which led into his spewing one mother of a huge LIE. “I was NOT informed directly that the website was not working correctly.” At this point I, and I'm sure others, could feel their blood pressure rising for this man knew damn well from day one that the website had problems…hell…he knew BEFORE the website went online that there were problems as the contractors who built the Healthcare.gov website themselves told him there were problems with it and advised him to delay its debut.  Obama even issued statements and went on TV…as did his mouthpiece Jay Carney…complaining about the website’s issues and blaming Republicans for all its problems…for all its shortfalls...blaming everyone and anyone he could but himself...his usual pass-the-buck strategy but this time its come back to bite him BIG time.

And on and on Obama's bloviations went…

But the bottom line is that his anything but a ‘fix’ will NOT work because the fact is that some insurance companies have already started issuing new policies that have incorporated the mandated coverage for the “broad range of benefits” required under ObamaCare. Also, allowing canceled policies to be extended for just one year can potentially destabilize the insurance market and result in higher premiums for policyholders sooner rather than later, because premiums have already been set for next year based on the previous timetable of when policy holders would be transitioning to ObamaCare.

“We are going to solve those problems. We are going to get this right, and the Affordable Care Act is going to work,” Obama desperately pleaded more than just said. And when his so-called ‘fix’ does NOT work Barack HUSSEIN Obama will own that too for a political band-aid is NOT what’s needed…the bad law with its bad medicine needs to be repealed…as it simply does NOT work.

Period.
