GOP calls to strip Harvard of billions in federal cash, tax breaks over ‘antisemitism shame’

Harvard is facing demands to be stripped of billions of dollars in federal payments and tax breaks over its failure to tackle antisemitism on campus.

The university benefits from hundreds of millions of dollars in direct federal payments — and even more in sweeping tax breaks which have helped make it the world’s richest academic institution.

Harvard, led by controversial president Claudine Gay, is being investigated by the federal Department of Education over whether it has breached the civil rights of Jewish students, which are protected under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.

Elise Stefanik, the New York Republican whose questioning of Gay at the House Education and Workforce Committee last week left the college leader’s career in crisis, told The Post she wanted to “defund.”

Remember When Biden Called on the Justice Department to Prosecute Those Defying Congressional Subpoenas?

President Joe Biden’s past comments are coming back to haunt him after his defiant son skipped out on a deposition before Congress on Wednesday.  

In October 2021, Biden called on the Department of Justice to prosecute people who defy congressional subpoenas while discussing the select committee’s Jan.6 Capitol Hill investigation. 

“I hope that the committee goes after them and holds them accountable criminally,” Biden told former CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins. 

His comments came at a time when the House voted to hold former Trump White House strategist Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress after he defied a subpoena from the Jan. 6 committee.

Biden added that anyone who does not respond to a “legitimate committee” in Congress “should be held responsible." Read more, see X and video here.
