Ted Cruz Favorite Among Grassroots Republicans, Wins RLC Straw Poll

Ted Cruz’s political star continues to rise.

Cruz, who is expected to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, has won the straw poll taken at the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans, LA.

In the straw poll, 633 ballots were cast, which was attended by more than 1,500 people.

1. Ted Cruz — 30.33 percent
2. Ben Carson — 29.38 percent
3. Rand Paul — 10.43 percent
4. Mike Huckabee — 5.06 percent
5. Rick Perry — 4.90 percent
6. Curt Clawson (write-in) 4.58 percent
7. Jeb Bush — 4.42 percent
8. Marco Rubio — 3.32 percent
9. Rick Santorum — 2.37 percent
10. Paul Ryan — 2.05 percent
11. Allen West (write-in) — 2.05 percent
12. Chris Christie — 1.11%

This the deep south, and the results are very telling of Cruz’s popularity with the base of the Republican Party.

Cruz has visited the all-important swing state of Florida on several occasions, and is expected to make a stronger push in the state moving into the 2016 Presidential primary cycle.

While Senator Marco Rubio has lost significant support from his past supporters in his home state, Cruz is looking to capitalize on those Floridians looking for an alternative to Rubio.

  1. Wow...Rand Paul got only 10%! In a way, I can understand why: Ted Cruz is the only one at this point who is standing up to Obama. Rand Paul is for some sort of amnesty, and that will be his downfall. Ted Cruz is the only one who has all the values that tea party and conservatives believe. I hope he runs!

I think Ben Carson would be a good VP choice; or a Mitt Romney who understands finance. However, I'm starting to think that Cruz is the man for my vote.

Whoever they go against, they must play dirty and hard; don't let the liberal media paint them as stupid. I would call the media out like Newt did and it worked.

I tend to agree with the poll, but we need to vet the people running. Do they have any baggage? For a democrat that doesn't matter, but for some reason it matters for a republican.

Whoever runs against the democrats: Godspeed! You will need it!
