Op-ed:
Coming to a City Near You...Maybe
- President Donald Trump, June 8, 2020
President Trump has had enough...the attack on Senator Rand Paul and his wife after leaving the Republican National Convention seems to have been the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back. Now seriously considering invoking the “Insurrection Act” to end the 90+ days of rioting, looting, mayhem, and murder, our president has rightfully placed the blame for all that has gone wrong squarely on the shoulders of the Democratic mayors and governors who are willfully allowing their cities to not only go up in flames, but who refuse to stop the violence that seems to be overtaking not only the rule of law, but common decency and civility as well.
And with the “rule of law” being but a foreign concept to these what President Trump calls “thugs”...the happenings after the convention saw a large and growing number of “thugs”
surrounding, threatening, and intimidating the invited guests, Senator
Rand Paul and his wife included, upon their leaving the White House. And
while President Trump correctly blamed the very person responsible for
the mayhem...as in Washington, D.C.'s Democrat mayor, one Muriel
Bowser...for what he described as “a failure to gain control of protests in the city,” the reality is
why would she try to gain control of the thugs when she herself is, if
not actually one of the thug's supporters, at least one of their
condoners.
And so our “law and order” president...the very president who knows there exists no systemic racism nor widespread police brutality here in our country...the very president who has said defunding America's police departments will not happen on his watch...has now come face to face with those who say he does not have the Constitutional authority to impose the “Insurrection Act.” But I say these naysayers are wrong especially when the presidential oath of office, as per Article II, Section I of the Constitution reads as follows, “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

These
were the very words that Donald J. Trump solemnly and with the utmost
reverence repeated when on January 20, 2017 he placed his hand on both
his family Bible and the Bible that President Abraham Lincoln used on his
first inauguration, and became our 45th President of these United
States. And these are words President Trump seriously takes to heart,
and besides, nowhere in the Constitution itself is the sitting president
told to “stand down” and
do nothing while American cities are burned to the ground while their
mayors and governors sit back and do nothing...except to add political
fuel to the fire that is.
But herein lies the problem for remember this in regards to “insurrection”...if the governors of the states and/or the mayors of the cities at risk do not “invite” the feds in to help restore “law and order”....if they do not officially call the ongoing rioting and mayhem an “insurrection”...some believe there's little President Trump can legally do. But there are things a president can do after certain specific criteria are met...criteria which includes proving that those rebelling against authority are arming themselves to do so. And to that add that there are statutory restrictions on “posse comitatus” relating to the use of “private parties” to enforce the law... “private parties” in this case being the extent to which the military may be used for law enforcement purposes. But when police hands are tied, when the police are prevented from doing the job they were tasked with doing, exceptions to “posse comitatus” do allow President Trump to invoke the “Insurrection Act” to help keep the populace safe.
Now regarding the “Insurrection Act” itself...an act adopted in 1807 that authorizes the president, at the request of a state government, to “federalize the National Guard” and to deploy and use active duty military forces on U.S. soil to suppress and put an end to insurrection against a state's government... local governments included...or its citizens. The “Insurrection Act” also allows the president to invoke said act without the “explicit consent” of a state's governor or its state's legislature if it becomes both “impracticable to enforce” federal laws through “ordinary proceedings” or if states are unable or unwilling to safeguard its citizens “civil rights” against dangerous and destructive forces. And if President Trump can make such a case...a case we see unfolding everyday on the news and on the internet... the “Insurrection Act” can and should be ordered even without his securing a local official's request.

And if President Trump can make such a case...a case we see unfolding everyday on the news and on the internet... the “Insurrection Act” can and should be ordered even without his securing a local official's request.
And here let it be known that “civil rights”
are not just rights afforded BLM and Antifa protesters, rioters,
looters, arsonists, and thugs...as the Democrats and liberal media are
trying hard to make you believe...but are rights afforded to all “We the People”...to
America's citizenry itself...as in it's our right to live our lives
free of fear, retribution, mayhem, and violence at the hands of those
who are doing any and everything to state their grievances but not by “peaceably assembling,” which is what our Constitution's First Amendment says “assembly” must be.
So how can President Trump legally institute the “Insurrection Act”...I believe by throwing the “Posse Comitatus Act” back in the Democrats, BLM, and Antifa's America-hating faces. What many don't know or simply ignore is the fact that the “Insurrection Act”
has already been used a number of times, especially to protect black
folks from violence...black folks fighting for both civil rights and
desegregation. For example, in 1871, Congress actually reformed the “Insurrection Act,” and by default the “Posse Comitatus Act,”
to allow then President Ulysses S. Grant to use military troops to
enforce newly designated civil rights; in 1957 by President Dwight D.
Eisenhower to desegregate schools in South Carolina after violence broke
out; in 1962 by J.F.K. in Mississippi for the same reason; and again in
1965 by L.B.J. to protect civil rights marchers in Selma, Alabama
against what was feared to come violence.
The “rule of law” is the “rule of law” and should be instituted fairly across the board including for those affected by the folks behaving
badly. And to get the “Insurrection Act”
ball rolling, all President Trump needs to do is issue a formal
proclamation ordering all protesters and insurgents to disperse no
matter that a number of Democrat governors and mayors...elected officials who see yet do
nothing about their cities going up in flames...have denounced Trump's
wanted implementation of said “Insurrection Act.”
But in their denouncing of President Trump, and in their failing to stop the violence and mayhem, these Democrat governors and mayors might be the very reason why President Trump will rightfully get a second term in office, and it's along the same lines that afforded Richard M. Nixon the presidency back in 1968 during somewhat similar turbulent times.

Nixon the presidency back in 1968 during somewhat similar turbulent times.
Nixon was the first to call himself the would be “law and order”
president, and he did so while campaigning for president while our
country was suffering through the Viet Nam War protests; the murders of
both Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Senator Robert F. Kennedy; and when
the anti-war protesters and civil rights demonstrators tried to shut
down the Democratic National Convention that nominated Hubert Humphrey
for president. And with riots then, as they are now, continuing to break
out across the U.S...the National Guard was called in to help restore “law and order” by now President Richard M. Nixon...the candidate who had promised that he would be the man to restore the “rule of law.”
And Nixon won his election because of that promise...a promise he kept...and President Trump has
made that very same promise, and we all know that what Donald J. Trump
promises he will do, he does.
The “Insurrection Act” needs
to be imposed poste-haste and President Trump needs that second term in
office to restore "law and order," otherwise what we now see going on in Democrat controlled cities
will indeed be coming to a city and a suburb near you...Democrat or
Republican controlled city not withstanding. That, dear reader, is simple reality...case closed.
