Rebellion at NASA against 'global warming'

Letter warns 'green' position endangering 'reputation of science itself'

Forty-nine highly respected former NASA astronauts, engineers and scientists are fighting back against efforts by top executives to use the federal agency to promote global warming alarmism.

The letter to NASA Administrator Charles Bolden accuses the agency of endangering “the reputation of science itself” by advocating the “extreme” position that carbon dioxide is the major cause of climate change.

The signatories include seven former Apollo astronauts as well as Chris Kraft, the man more responsible than any other for establishing Mission Control.

They want NASA to “refrain from including unproven and unsupported remarks in its future releases” and contend that the claim “that man-made carbon dioxide is having a catastrophic impact on global climate change” is “not substantiated.”

The letter has done nothing to stop the efforts of NASA’s most notorious global warming activist, James Hansen, director of the Goddard Institute for Space Studies, a division of NASA.

The day after the letter was sent, Hansen stated in an interview with BBC Scotland that averting global warming was a “great moral issue” equivalent to slavery. He called for a worldwide tax on carbon emissions and advocated a ban on the construction of coal-fired power plants.

As Brian Sussman points out in his explosive new book “Eco-Tyranny,” there is nothing new about these kinds of statements, as Hansen has a long history of extreme claims and advocacy on behalf of large-scale government regulation.

For example, in May 2011, Hansen advocated redistribution of wealth by placing a “flat rising fee on carbon” with the objective of “affect[ing] consumers and chang[ing] lifestyles. People with lavish lifestyles will pay more in increased energy costs … and they will see that their personal decisions make a difference.”

In 2009, Hansen stated that coal is “the largest fossil fuel reservoir of carbon dioxide, it is the dirtiest fuel. Coal is polluting the world’s oceans and streams with mercury, arsenic, and other dangerous chemicals. …

The trains carrying coal to power plants are death trains. Coal-fired power plants are factories of death.”

Building on the implied parallel to death camps, Hansen called in 2008 for the CEOs of energy companies that use fossil fuels to be tried for “high crimes against humanity and nature.”

Hansen also has found time to protest and undergo three separate arrests for left-wing causes while still heading up GISS. In June 2009, he was arrested alongside actress Daryl Hannah for protesting mountaintop removal in southern West Virginia. In September 2010, he was arrested again for taking part in a nationwide protest called Appalachia Rising organized by the liberal environmental group the Rainforest Action Network. Finally, in August 2011, Hansen was arrested for protesting the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.

“James Hansen has a long history of proving himself to be a radical environmentalist with a Ph.D. – who just happens to work for the U.S. government,” Sussman said.

“This is the man charged with keeping the temperature of Mother Earth – and he’s committed to making sure it looks like Mother Earth is always running a fever,” he said.

Sussman points out that Hansen’s efforts are only part of a larger pattern of what he calls “government-sponsored scaremongering.”

The Environmental Protection Agency has a list of frequently asked questions on global warming which states, “Climate change health effects are especially serious for the very young, very old, or for those with heart and respiratory problems.”

It adds, “Climate change will likely increase the number of people suffering from illness and injury due to floods, storms, droughts, and fires, as well as allergies and infectious diseases.”

The EPA has a special site designed for children with the headline “The Earth’s climate is changing, and people’s activities are the main cause.”

However, as Sussman says in “Eco-Tyranny,” the federal government itself is responsible for using flawed information that fuels climate change alarmism.

NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA, are collecting data from thousands fewer temperature reporting stations than they did in 1970. The smaller sample size is compromised by locating the remaining stations in urban areas and not compensating for the localized warming known as the urban heat island effect.

They are also systematically removing data from temperature reporting stations in higher latitudes, higher altitudes and rural areas, creating a false picture of global warming.

Poll: 75% of Americans lay blame in not-so-surprising place

Editor’s note: This is another in a series of WND/WENZEL POLLS conducted exclusively for WND by the public-opinion research and media consulting company Wenzel Strategies. 

Americans already have delivered a judgment in the death of Trayvon Martin in Florida, not so much on whether the blame falls on the black teen or on defendant George Zimmerman, but on the media’s coverage of the case.

A new Wenzel Poll conducted exclusively for WND by the public-opinion research and media-consulting company Wenzel Strategies, shows three in four registered voters believe the media’s coverage of the story has made the nation more racially divided.

In the national telephone poll, conducted April 9-12 with a margin of error of 3.42 percent, some 77 percent said the way the media has covered the case has produced a “more polarized nation.”

Only 11 percent of voters said the coverage increased racial harmony, and 12 percent said there was no effect.

The editing of Zimmerman’s exchange with a 911 dispatcher in an NBC News report was one of the most egregious examples of bias.

The report quoted Zimmerman saying, “This guy looks like he’s up to no good … he looks black.”

But the full tape shows Zimmerman’s remarks were edited to make him sound racist:
ZIMMERMAN: This guy looks like he’s up to no good, [begin ellipsis] or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.
911 DISPATCHER: Okay, is this guy, is he white, black, or Hispanic? [end ellipsis]
ZIMMERMAN: He looks black.
Reported Dan Riehl at Breitbart: “Not only did Zimmerman not equate Martin’s skin color with his looking suspicious; he didn’t even initiate the comment. It was simply a response to the police dispatcher. What the full quote does seem to make certain is that at that period in time, Zimmerman wasn’t even positive as to what race Martin was.”

Fritz Wenzel, chief of the polling company, said, “More than three out of four – 77 percent – believe the media coverage of the Trayvon Martin case has increasingly polarized the nation along racial lines. Just 11 percent said they think the coverage has increased racial harmony. Another 12 percent said they don’t think the news coverage of the case has had any effect on race relations in America.”

The poll also showed that Americans voters by a large margin believe the media has rushed to judgment.

That option was picked by 58 percent of the respondents, while more than 14 percent said the media’s coverage was biased. More than 13 percent said it was truthful, and not even 10 percent concluded it was “tempered and balanced.”

“The mainstream media’s handling of the Trayvon Martin case in Sanford, Fla., is getting very low marks by the general public,” Wenzel said. “Nearly six in 10 registered voters nationwide – people who I would say maintain a general interest in the news of the day – said they believe the media has engaged in a rush to judgment in their reporting on the case. Another 15 percent said they believe the coverage has been clearly biased.”

Wenzel said even 59 percent of “liberals” said “they think the news media has engaged in a rush to judgment in this case.”

He said another 8 percent of liberals say the coverage has been “out-and-out biased.” In contrast, some 90 percent of conservatives said the same thing.

“The problem is that national news reporters should have known that such a racially charged case would require them to bend over backwards not to draw conclusions of their own in their coverage, or not to do anything that would taint the public’s perception of their reportage on this situation,” Wenzel said. “Instead, we had television networks distorting the fact and even altering a 911 tape to dramatically change the tone of the call.”

The damage, however, may not end up being to Zimmerman or the case, but to the media.

“This polling data is just the latest example in a rapidly expanding pool of evidence that Americans no longer feel they can trust what they hear, see or read from the mainstream media. Their industry is, in many respects, in steep decline, and yet these reporters, editors, producers and on-camera talent seem intent on driving their profession off a cliff.

“And, if liberal reporters and news networks thought they might be doing Democrats a favor by skewing their coverage, they have once again demonstrated their lack of understanding of the American voting public and those people who may well decide the presidential election this fall,” Wenzel said.

“Among independent voters, 80 percent said media coverage of this case was either a rush to judgment or clearly biased. It’s not a surprise then, that this last week, we have seen Barack Obama’s poll numbers take a dive, but mainstream reporters may be scratching their heads.”

The poll also asked about why the case got so much more attention than others. More than 33 percent said it was publicized for political advantage, and 26 percent said activists seized on the case to make gains in their agenda.

About 18 percent said it was because the victim was innocent, 9 percent said it was because injustice was taking place and 8 percent said the case demonstrated police bias.

The poll also asked whether the criminal justice system needs to sort out what really happened. More than 85 percent said they agree or strongly agree that the criminal justice system should be allowed to do its work.

“The survey also shows that there is an overwhelming desire on the part of Americans … to see the criminal justice system, not the media or race activists, sort out what happened and mete out justice in this case,” Wenzel said.

And it said 46 percent believe Martin instigated the final altercation and was killed, 39 percent said the fight was instigated by Zimmerman and Martin fought back, and 15 percent believe Zimmerman committed murder.

“While there is no disputing that Americans live in an over-connected and overhyped media today, they appear to deeply resent attacks on core institutions like law enforcement and the criminal justice system,” he said, “and they particularly dislike those who, for their own aggrandizement, profit, or political gain, inject themselves into the regular workings of those institutions.”

He said, “The wheels of justice are moving along just fine in the Trayvon Martin case, but this survey shows the American public is reaching its own verdict on the media, activists, and political figures who have used this situation to engage in a blatant and extraordinary exercise in self-promotion. What’s left to discover is if the punishment fits the media crime of passion that the public clearly believes has taken place.”

And so it has begun.  Our great nation, a nation of freedom and exceptionalism, has been turned into a nation of sheep, whiners, and the apathetic, as some continue to blindly follow a usurping, calculating traitor of a president who wants to see America fail so she can be rebuilt as a New World Order nation with himself at the helm.

Sadly, even the most patriotic sector of ‘We the People’ have, up to this point, sat back and watched in amazement as Obama and his minions forced everything from unconstitutional mandates to unwanted legislation, such as ObamaCare, down our throats.  We sat back and watched as his socialist policies continued to destroy America from within as he laughed at the Constitution.  We sat back and watched as he catered to special interest groups, lobbyists, the radical left fringe, and anyone and anything anti-American. We watched as he defamed and dishonored our brave men and women in uniform as he traveled the world apologizing for their actions.  And we watched as this president continued to show total disregard for the will of the majority of us Americans.

While we sat back and watched a man take the office of the presidency and swear an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, while we sat back and watched that very man do everything in his power to ridicule, defame, and negate the very document we all hold dear; the very document that laid the groundwork upon which this Judeo-Christian nation was founded; the very document that helped create the greatest most free nation the world has ever known; some of us grew restless as we watched.

Well, we will sit back and watch no more.

While this president and his administration continue trying to turn our great republic into a socialist nation, giving themselves unprecedented power over everything we do, say, write, or even think, we patriots are out there spreading the truth  any and every way we can.  And this is no easy task with the obstacles in our way, as this president tries to control our last vestige of both communication and truth telling...the internet (remember the infamous ‘net neutrality’ ruling of the FCC).  And always remember Obama’s total control of the media and how dangerous that is as all dictators’ start by controlling the free unbiased flow of information.

And while Obama continues to challenge the very system of checks and balances that is so critical to our rule of law; while he openly tries to create new rules of law to expand his Executive Branch powers so as to make himself a dictator over us all; while he openly criticizes, chastises, and manipulates the justices of the Supreme Court to try and make them bend to his will; and while he continuously tries, and many times succeeds, in issuing Executive Orders that usurp power away from the States (basically negating state’s rights); ‘We the People’ are organizing on grassroots levels all across our great land to help assure that on November 6th the demise and fall of a man who has made a mockery of the presidency will become a reality.

And we WILL succeed because Obama fails to see that ’We the People,’ especially we patriots, are uniting together in great numbers to attain our goal of restoring constitutional authority, government accountability, full transparency, and respect for the law of our land as laid out in our Constitution.  What Obama fails to see is that we WILL restore America to God the Creator as the Declaration of Independence so wisely stated, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”  By their Creator, God IS in our founding document whether Obama cares to accept that fact or not.  

And lastly, what Obama fails to see most clearly is that all the infighting between Republicans WILL stop and we WILL all come together to rid the White House of the most dishonorable, dishonest, traitorous man to ever hold the office of President of the United States, because ‘We the People’ know in our hearts that if we don’t, our beloved America as we know and love her will be no more.


Fox News host urges Obama to release transcript

Wants to see Harvard records 'he spent $200,000 trying to keep away from us'

Unlike previous presidents, Barack Obama has refused to release to the public his school transcripts and other personal records, but a Fox News host thinks a new Harvard Law School course called “Understanding Obama” presents him with the perfect opportunity to begin making amends.

In a discussion about the Harvard course on the Fox News Channel’s “The Five,” co-host Andrea Tantaros playfully suggested a little transparency on Obama’s part would provide some of the insight the course promises.

“Obama was a lawyer for only 18 months, and if they really want us to understand him, maybe Harvard should release his transcript that he spent $200,000 trying to keep away from us,” she said.

Tantaros, who joined Fox News Channel in April 2010 as a political contributor, had senior communications roles for a number of Republican campaigns and served as press secretary to Republican leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives.

As WND has reported, along with his Harvard transcripts, Obama has refused to release numerous other records that could help resolve lingering doubt about his presidential eligibility. Lawsuits challenging his eligibility have demanded release of his personal records, but Obama has spent a considerable sum of money to defeat them.

The unreleased documents include passport records, kindergarten records, high school records, Occidental College records, Columbia University records, his Columbia thesis, Harvard Law Review articles, University of Chicago scholarly articles, Illinois State Bar Association records, Illinois State Senate records and schedules, medical records and any adoption records.

As WND reported earlier this month, a New Jersey sheriff who heard WND senior reporter Jerome Corsi present evidence Obama is not eligible said the president’s records should be released.

“The easiest way to put this to rest is to have the records unsealed,” Morris County Sheriff Ed Rochford told the Huffington Post in an email.

According to the Harvard Law School catalog, Professor Charles Ogletree will lead a one-credit reading group during the 1013 spring term, the Dally Caller reported.
The catalog says:
This reading group will focus on the way in which race, religion, and politics have impacted the development of President Obama as a leader. We will explore his views as a biracial child, his time as a student at Harvard Law School, the successes and failures of his political campaigns, and the way religion and his views on faith nearly derailed his campaign. Finally, time will be spent analyzing the challenges he faces as president of the United States in establishing both his domestic and global policies.
Ogletree mentored both President Obama, who graduated in 1991, and Michelle Obama when they were students at the law school. Barack Obama became the first black to be elected president of the Harvard Law Review.
Ogletree is a big supporter of Obama, but he told the Daily Caller that his class curriculum won’t focus only on the positive.

“They’ll be reading both critical and positive issues about Obama – of what’s happened in terms of the way the race and religion have been viewed during his candidacy, his presidency, and how it affects the larger country; and some other classic reading on issues of law and justice,” Ogletree said.
