Could Obama Finally Have Overplayed His Hand

By: David Limbaugh / Townhall Columnist
Is it possible that Obama's arrogance, personal pettiness, sanctimoniousness and egotism (for starters) could finally be his unraveling? Even the liberal media are starting to notice, but will it last?

Up to this point, they've dutifully played along with his Alinskyite tactics -- converting the office of the presidency into a headquarters for community organizing at a federal level and a position to organize and fund a perpetual campaign against his political opponents instead of governing.

The liberal media share Obama's leftist policy goals and the ends-justify-the-means mentality that accompanies them and have thus far been eager not only to ignore Obama's thuggishness and deceit but also to proactively help him in accomplishing his goals and concealing his chicanery.

But perhaps his willingness to hurt the country to make political points, which until recently they'd overlooked, has finally gotten their attention -- with his brazen lies about the sequester cuts and his release of dangerous criminal illegals onto the streets. I'll not be Pollyannaish in hoping for a sustained liberal-media blowback toward Obama, but these matters have at least caught their attention and inched ever so slightly forward from the back burner. That's something to build on.

Cocky from his re-election and from a string of triumphs in his negotiations with Republicans, Obama calculated he could continue to be as dictatorial and unreasonable as he had been and even ratchet it up a notch and get away with it. He knew he was lying when he said Republicans were currently causing the sequestration because they wouldn't agree to more tax increases. He was the one primarily responsible for the impasse because he had already gotten his tax increases and was still refusing to play ball on the spending and entitlements side -- the only side that can make a difference in solving our debt crisis -- as he always has.

The media didn't call him on that, as flagrantly dishonest as it was. Why should they have? They rarely had before, and they support his quest to punish the successful. Loyalty to the truth hasn't been enough to motivate them to behave like true journalists and just report the news fairly.

But we saw a hint of media dissatisfaction with Obama when reporter Chuck Todd criticized Obama for "ceding the moral high ground" concerning the corrupt influence of money in politics because his campaign arm, Organizing for Action, has been "selling access to the president."

Then veteran reporter Bob Woodward came forward to expose a second category of lies from Obama on the sequestration. Even if some in the liberal media turned on their former Watergate-famed icon, at least others called White House press secretary Jay Carney's hand over this.

It was now obvious that Obama was lying not just about the primary reasons for the gridlock over the sequester cuts but about who authored the idea in the first place. After Obama blatantly lied about this and sent out his minions to do the same, the administration had to grudgingly concede that it had been his idea. Even then, the administration tried to spin its way out of it by misrepresenting that Republicans had agreed to revenue hikes as part of the sequestration.

But amazingly, the spin doesn't seem to be getting much traction for Obama for a change. Perhaps it is because Obama went too far when, like a petulant child, he showed he was willing to hurt the nation to get his way on the sequestration and further damage Republicans.

He went way over the top, even for him, in his promises of gloom and doom concerning essential services he falsely claimed would be cut. Education Secretary Arne Duncan incorrectly claimed that schoolteachers were already being laid off, which even The Washington Post wouldn't let stand. Other liberal outlets came forward to contradict Obama's hysterical claim over pay cuts on Capitol Hill. Even "Saturday Night Live" lampooned Obama's absurd posturing on the sequester cuts.

Journalist Byron York reported that Obama now seems "resigned to the possibility that he cannot win the further tax increases he seeks, and that after enlisting his entire administration in a campaign to frighten Americans about sequestration, the cuts have become a reality that he has to acknowledge." Obama has now admitted that the cuts aren't going to be apocalyptic as he warned.

Obama has outdone himself with his administration's unilateral release of thousands of dangerous criminal illegal immigrants onto the streets of America in order to leverage his sequester arguments and then sending Carney out to grossly misrepresent the scope of this outrage.

I won't hold my breath for a wholesale transformation of the liberal media's attitude toward Obama, but I'm encouraged to see anything at all in that direction and that the political winds seem to be changing, even if slightly so far, against Obama.

5 Things the Gun Grabbers Apparently Don't Understand

"I’m not a gun owner and, as I think as is the case for the more than half the people in the country who also aren’t gun owners, that means that for me guns are alien. In the current rhetorical climate people seem not to want to say: I think guns are kind of scary and don’t want to be around them." -- Josh Marshall
"A fear of weapons is a sign of retarded sexual and emotional maturity." -- Sigmund Freud
Sorry, but your Second Amendment rights no longer apply because liberals like Josh Marshall tinkle on themselves every time they come within fifty feet of a gun. This is really what the debate on gun control in America comes down to in the end: people who lose nothing if guns are banned because they don’t use them demanding that everyone else be disarmed. Meanwhile, trying to reason with gun control advocates is like arguing with a four year old about whether her imaginary friend is real or not. It doesn't matter how clearly you prove your case; she'll be pouring her pal tea two minutes after you've left the room. Speaking of imaginary…

1) A "gun free zone" won’t keep bad people with guns away: The basic problem with a "gun free zone” is that anyone you can't trust with a gun will bring it in anyway while it will cause the people you'd want armed in a dangerous situation to leave their weapons behind. If this concept actually worked, we'd just train all of our soldiers in Jiu-jitsu and then we'd declare everywhere we sent them to be a "gun free zone." Admittedly, Mortal Kombat: Afghanistan sounds like it would be an amazing movie, but someone needs to inform Democrats that the world doesn't really work this way.

2) Criminals and lunatics don't obey gun laws: The belief that someone who's planning to go on a killing spree is going to turn in a gun because it's made illegal is almost as nuts as going on the killing spree. Yet, the gun grabbers in the Democrat Party operate on the assumption that nut jobs like Adam Lanza or a gangbanger who sells crack for a living is going to get rid of a high-capacity magazine if Congress says he can't have it. That's like a prohibitionist who gets upset about alcoholism and deals with the problem by demanding that all the people without drinking problems have to be kept away from booze.

3) We already have somewhere between 200-300 million guns in this country: Adding to the last point, ever heard this old joke?

A drunk loses the keys to his house and is looking for them under a lamppost. A policeman comes over and asks what he’s doing.
“I’m looking for my keys” he says. “I lost them over there”.
The policeman looks puzzled. “Then why are you looking for them all the way over here?”
“Because the light is so much better”.
If there were no already existing guns in America, gun control could conceivably help keep weaponry out of the hands of criminals and mass murderers. However, in a nation that's already armed to the teeth, the next Adam Lanza, Jared Loughner, Tookie Williams or Mumia Abu-Jamal has already got his gun and new laws will only disarm law abiding Americans.

4) Gun owners aren't required to explain a "need" for our Second Amendment rights: Why do gun owners "need" their guns? The same reason that Rosa Parks "needed" her seat at the front of the bus. In other words, it's our constitutional right; so kiss off! If you need more of an explanation than that, why does California "need" to have its votes counted in the next presidential election? Why do we "need" so many liberal newspapers? Why not close a few? Why do movie stars "need" to make so much money for their films? Why don't we confiscate it? What was it that Ann Coulter said?

"Free people are not in the habit of providing reasons why they 'need' something simply because the government wants to ban it. That’s true of anything — but especially something the government is constitutionally prohibited from banning, like guns."

5) You're not fooling us: Liberals like to think they're smarter than everyone else, but they're as transparent as glass to anyone who's paying attention. That's why gun sales have blown up like a can of shaving cream in a microwave. If Barack Obama, Diane Feinstein, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden and the rest of the Democrat gun grabbers in Congress could get away with it, they would ban and confiscate every gun in America tomorrow -- and people know it. Anything short of, "Nobody is allowed to own a firearm except the government," is unacceptable to them and that's why they always seem so ghoulishly pleased after tragedies like the Gabrielle Giffords shooting or the Newtown massacre. Everybody else is thinking of the victims, while they're twirling their mustaches Snidely-Whiplash-style and repeating, "Never let a serious crisis go to waste," to each other.

Mainstream media downplays, ignores jihad threat

From Jihad Watch / Posted by Robert Spencer

The mainstream media's complicity with the jihad and Islamic supremacism is nothing new. I have frequently noted how hopelessly compromised pro-jihad pseudo-journalists in the U.S., such as Christiane Amanpour, Manya Brachear, Bob Smietana, Kari Huus, Dave Weigel, Michael Kruse, Eli Clifton, Alex Kane, Adam Serwer, Max Blumenthal, etc., are cutting their own throats by propagandizing for Sharia and defaming freedom fighters. This piece shows the other side: they ignore jihad activity and even crimes committed by Muslims, out of an immovable conviction that Muslims are and can only be victims, not perpetrators of violence. "Jihad? What Jihad? Media Shrug At Islamic Threat," from Investor's Business Daily, March 1:
Homeland Insecurity: The attorney general says the threat from local jihadists is now worse than terrorist plots hatched overseas. He warned Americans not to grow "complacent." Tell it to the media.
The major news gatekeepers have ignored the jihadist element in no fewer than four recent cases of sensational killings of non-Muslims by mostly young Muslim men inside the U.S., including:
• Yusuf Ibrahim, a 27-year-old Egyptian immigrant who on Feb. 5 allegedly beheaded two Coptic Christians living in New Jersey.
• Ali Syed, a 20-year-old Muslim who allegedly randomly killed three people in Southern California on Feb. 18 before killing himself.
• Ammar Asim Faruq Harris, a 26-year-old reported black Muslim convert who on Feb. 21 is said to have killed three people in Las Vegas.
• Ali Salim, a 44-year-old Pakistan-born doctor who is accused of raping and killing a pregnant woman and her 9-month-old fetus last year in his Ohio office.
This rash of homicides by Muslims has triggered a giant media yawn, despite telltale signs of jihadist motive. Jihad? What jihad? Reporters seemed to be collectively shrugging in another fit of extreme PC.
Here's another key piece of information denied the average American watching the evening news: the majority of convicted terrorists in the U.S. are American citizens. A study found the terrorist threat is increasingly in our backyard.
Equally stunning, more than half of the 171 terror convicts analyzed by the London-based Henry Jackson Society are college-educated. Many are black converts. Nearly half were born and raised here, according to the report prefaced by former CIA director Mike Hayden.
Yet they want to kill fellow Americans simply because they believe that's what their creed tells them to do. But instead of confronting this homegrown threat, our society is fig-leafing it, even glorifying it.
Even in red-state Texas, educators are indoctrinating kids into the Islamic faith. At Lumberton High School, a geography class was recently told to dress up in Islamic garb — including burqas — and refer to the 9/11 hijackers not as terrorists but as "freedom fighters."

This isn't an isolated event. There's a coordinated effort by leftist do-gooders and multiculturalists to de-link Islam from violence and terror and rewrite history.

When educators, journalists and politicians hear no Islamic violence, see no Islamic violence and report no Islamic violence, beware, it's Sept. 10, 2001, again.
Geese and Ganders

Remember a couple of years ago when Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said that his goal was to make President Obama a one-term president? The media went nuts. They equated those candid-but- thoroughly-unsurprising remarks with wanting the country to collapse.  Ever since, the Administration has used McConnell’s comment against Republicans every time they opposed Obama on anything.  An MSNBC host called what McConnell said “pathetic.”  Sen. Chuck Schumer wondered if the Republicans “aren’t trying to slow down the economic recovery for political gain.”  Google the term: “Mitch McConnell goal to defeat Obama,” if you have a free afternoon to wade through the national main-stream outrage.  The only thing more ridiculous than the blog posts were the “comments” to the blog posts – apoplectic sputtering, interrupted by occasional (numerous ) accusations of treason.

Flash forward to last Sunday.  The lead story in the Washington Post, front page, was “Obama Sees 2014 as Key to Legacy.” Quoting key Obama allies, the article describes in great detail how Obama plans to defeat the House Republicans almost a year and a half from now to take back the House.  He is clearly obsessed with the idea, and is at least as open about it as McConnell was about defeating him. He is raising money, helping to recruit candidates and has launched a political “non-profit” group that would give access to Obama for a contribution of $500,000. These efforts, the story goes, will allow Obama to take the House and push his “progressive agenda on gun control, immigration, climate change and the economy (read new stimulus spending) in his final two years.”  While we say “what’s good for the goose” … the media begs your pardon while it collectivity yawns.

Keep in mind that this lack of coverage comes while Obama is getting his fanny kicked on sequester, having failed to sufficiently frighten the American people or intimidate House Republicans.  Getting caught lying about janitors being laid off in the Capital, almost simultaneously with his Education Secretary getting caught doing the same thing with regard to teachers, didn’t help his strategy to terrify.

The point here, of course, is that it is perfectly okay to work to change one branch of government (even if you have to bring back selling the Lincoln bedroom to do it), but it is outrageous to work to change another branch.

An even more significant point is the fact that Obama is well on his way to one major achievement: Project Overreach.  First with the sequester, then with his selling of access, and third with his notion that gun control is a winner for Democrats.

It’s funny how the pendulum swings.
To the man who should be president
By: Diane Sori
Dear Mr. Romney,

Sunday I watched the Chris Wallace interview with you and Ann and it brought tears to my eyes for there you were, the man America desperately needed to be president sitting alongside your loving and beautiful wife, a woman who would have brought class back to the position of First Lady.  Mitt, you would have been an amazing president, and how truly sad it is that in today's America the 'sponges' of this country coupled with massive voter fraud denied our beloved America of your guiding hand in helping to restore to her all that Barack HUSSEIN Obama has taken away.

“It kills me not to be there, not to be in the White House doing what needs to be done...It’s hard,” you said.  And you know what Mitt...it's hard on America that you're NOT there...it's harder than you can ever imagine for on that fateful day in November America lost the best man for these times...honest, capable, and not a political insider.  America lost you Mitt...a hard worker, a success, a man dedicated to service of country because of your love of country...because you believe in the American dream.......and in America.
It's hard on America that the media is NOT only complicit but partners in your defeat.  Ann put it eloquently but so pointedly when she said she was frustrated that the campaign would not let you show your more open, compassionate side...”it's the media’s fault that you were never given a fair shake,” that people weren’t allowed to really see him for who you really were.

How right she is for it was the media that was in the pocket of the man who bought and paid for votes with promises of free stuff...and lots of it.  It was the media who helped Barack HUSSEIN Obama steal the election away from you...a man so much more qualified to put our country and our economy back on track...so much more qualified to be the leader of the free world...to be respected as Commander-in-Chief by our military and NOT one to sell us out to our enemies...so much more qualified to be the steward of the greatest nation the world has ever known.

It was the media who is as guilty of stabbing our beloved America in the back but they are NOT alone in that.  Also just as guilty are those who wouldn't vote for you simply because you are a Mormon...the ones who wouldn't vote for you because their candidate of choice wasn't the nominee...the ones who voted 3rd party as a sign of protest failing to realize that their vote actually went to Obama...the ones who stayed home and couldn't be bothered to vote...the ones who voted for Obama just so they could get more free stuff...and the ones who knowingly and willing committed voter fraud by voting over and over again just so they could have a man in office who would give them even more free stuff.

And while you did say that your campaign failed to reach out to
minorities as well as the Obama campaign you forget that it's the
minorities that Obama bought and paid for with all his free stuff and
promises of amnesty for ILLEGALS...no one could compete with Santa giving away goodies.

These people are the cause of Obama being back in office...these are the people who have doomed America to four years of hell.  And while you say that “I recognize that as the guy who lost the election, I’m not in a position to tell everybody else how to win, alright? They’re not going to listen and I don’t have the credibility to do that anyway.  But I still care”...we who supported you and still believe in you say we still care too.

We still care...we still care how we have a man sitting in the White House who has anything but America's best interests at heart...a man who tells lie after lie to the American people yet NEVER has to personally answer for them...he has flunkies for that who just perpetrate those lies as in 'Fast and Furious' and Benghazi.

We still care that this man, who should be doing the job he was
'elected' (gag) to do is still out campaigning as he is more concerned
about taking back the House in 2014 so he can finish the job
unobstructed by Republicans...to finish the job of destroying our
beloved country and turn her into his vision of a socialist utopia...
than he is about creating jobs and putting Americans back to work.

We still care as you said “that Obama is failing in his handling of
the $85 billion in spending cuts that kicked in last weekend, in part
because he failed to broker a less drastic option between Democrats
and Republicans.”  We still care that he cried wolf...that he cried the
sky will fall...that he tried to scare the American people over what
amounts to a miserly 3% cut to the budget.

We still care as you do that Obama still continues to fund America's
enemies...that he sends billions to terrorist groups like Hamas, the
Muslim Brotherhood, and now Egypt, a once secular country now turned islamic dictatorship...and that he does this with our taxpayer dollars while Americans are out of work and hurting.

We still care that this man has chosen a cabinet of leftover 60's
stoners, traitors, and muslim sympathizers...we care that social
issues have taken precedence over America's national defense...how our military is being cut as our enemies military forces grow stronger
every day.

We still care that this man is trying to radically alter our Constitution
...to do away with our Second Amendment right to 'keep and bear
arms' with his gun control lie of 'it's for the children.'

We still care that Barack HUSSEIN Obama has stolen America's
exceptionalism from her...that he is stripping her of her status as the world's only true remaining superpower as he cuts our nuclear arsenal to levels below that of her enemies...that he bows down and caters to the U(seless) N(ations) and their One World Order initiative.

And we still care that America is still dealing with the lost hope
that many of us saw in you and Ann.  Everyday with this miserable
excuse of a president is a fresh wound on 'We the People'...everyday
we live under the fear of Obama's civil warfare agenda...of his
socialist redistribution and wealth theft agenda that is giving the
government centralized power to pass regulations which are leading us away from a free society.  How sad it is when a president has
forgotten that working across the isle unites all for the common good
as he turns his back on half the country, breaking our nation apart.

“I'm not going to disappear…I care about America. I care about the
people that can't find jobs.  I care about the fact that we're racking
up larger deficits and putting the peril of the future generation very
much in play” you said, and we thank you for that as it's obvious that
your heart is filled with passion and love for America.

Mitt, you vowed 'to remain a force in American politics' and I thank
you for that as we will need voices of reason, logic, and dedication
for when these next four years are over, because the job of putting
the pieces left of our beloved America back to how our Founders
intended her to be will be a great one, a hard one, but NOT an
impossible one if men like you are there to help lead the way.
