Lindsey Graham: There 'will be holy hell to pay' if Trump fires Mueller

South Carolina senator comments on the special counsel's investigation.

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s charges against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and two other aides mark a new phase in his sprawling investigation into Russia and President Donald Trump. But the president’s supporters on Capitol Hill have said they want all the facts to come in first.

There “will be holy hell to pay” if Mueller is dismissed, Senator Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told Fox News on Monday, unconcerned about rumblings of the ongoing threat Mueller poses to the president. He said there is zero evidence from the White House that Mueller’s investigation will be stopped or curtailed.

Asked to elaborate, Graham continued: “I've heard nothing from the White House to suggest that the president's going to try to replace Mr. Mueller. Zero evidence from anybody I've talked to. It would be wrong to do so unless there were cause.”

People familiar with Trump’s thinking told The Associated Press the president has become increasingly concerned that the Mueller probe could be moving to an investigation into his personal dealings.

Health insurance premiums for the first Obamacare open enrollment under President Trump will be 37 percent higher than last year for mid-level plans sold on healthcare.gov, according to a new report by the Department of Health and Human Services...The latest report, prepared by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, found that a 27-year-old who buys a mid-level plan, known as a silver plan, and does not receive a subsidy from the federal government will pay an average of $4,932 in premiums for 2018.

Kelly on Controversy With Dem Rep Over Gold Star Phone Call: I Have Nothing to Apologize For

There is one person White House Chief of Staff John Kelly will not be apologizing to—and that is Democratic Rep. Frederica Wilson.

Appearing on the premiere of Fox News’s “The Ingraham Angle,” the retired general said he continues to stand by his defense of President Trump’s call to Myeshia Johnson, the widow of the Sgt. La David Johnson, one of the Green Berets killed in the Niger ambush earlier this month.

Host Laura Ingraham asked Kelly if has anything to apologize for.

Wilson, for example, has demanded one for what she claims was “character assassination.”

"Oh, no. No. Never," Kelly said. "Well, I’ll apologize if I need to, but for something like that, absolutely not. I stand by my comments."

Kelly defended the widow’s comments about Trump—but was less forgiving about the politicization of the event.

"It was absolutely depressing to me to see how that was turned into a political event. I just don’t know how anyone could possibly criticize another human being for doing the best he or she can do to express sorrow from the bottom of their hearts," he said.

Hate Letter and White Powder Mailed to Israeli Consulate in NYC

A letter filled with images of swastikas and containing an unknown white powder was just received by officials with the Israeli consulate in New York City.

Police officials determined after a time the powder was harmless.

But the building was in shut-down mode for some time, as law enforcement officials responded to what was initially thought to be an attack of terror.

The Jerusalem Post has more:

[A] pink swastika was spray-painted across the doors of the Sutton Place Synagogue, in New York’s Midtown Manhattan area, the [New York Daily News] reported.

Surveillance video shows three men near the synagogue, with one spray-painting the doors.

Dershowitz: Manafort 'Knows Where the Bodies are Buried"

The charges filed against President Donald Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort and his deputy, Rick Gates, "apparently has nothing to do with Trump," but will be used as leverage toward the president and his campaign, Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz said Monday, as Manafort "knows where the bodies are buried."

"It's all about leverage," Dershowitz told Fox News' "Fox and Friends" program. "They're going after Manafort on something that apparently has nothing to do with Trump, years ago, his own business."
 
"The one thing is the Trump people did move quick to get rid of Manafort once his European ties came up," Fox News' Brian Kilmeade pointed out, recalling Manafort's firing during the campaign.

"That will help Trump distance himself," said Dershowitz. "But Manafort knows where the bodies are buried. He was an intimate, and if anything wrong happened in the campaign, and there's no evidence anything did, Manafort would know about it, even if he wasn't directly there, he would have hear 

But, said Dershowitz, federal officials will use those charges to push for information about Trump and whether his campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 election.

Clueless? DNC Chair Perez Did Not Know This About The Electoral College

Contrary to what some say, the Democratic Party is a total wreck. They have no message, no agenda, no leader, and are failing miserably in the fundraising game. The Republicans are just killing the Left when it comes to the national committee fundraising games. Even Democrats are starting to sour on new chairman, Tom Perez, as he’s been rather slow in giving fellow party members a sign that he’s rebuilding the party. For starters, he’s seems to be a bit clueless. The Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee funded the infamous and unverified Trump dossier, which we have learned this week, and it seems Perez had no clue that it existed. It’s only one of the reasons why we have a special counsel, Robert Mueller, looking into whether any collusion occurred between the Trump campaign and the Russians during the 2016 election.

Well, he also doesn’t know the Constitution because at a lecture at the Indiana University Law School, he said the Electoral College is nowhere in our founding document (via Washington Examiner) [emphasis mine]:

Wall Street Journal calls for Mueller to resign

The confirmation this week that Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee paid an opposition-research firm for a “dossier” on Donald Trump is bombshell news. More bombshells are to come. The Journal’s editorial argues that the FBI’s role in such controversies now needs to be investigated.

Mueller served as FBI Director between 2001 and 2013, so he led the FBI at the same time the Uranium One deal was being debated and approved.

The FBI has become an arm of the radical left. A massive purge is required if we are to have any hope of saving it.
 
Not only should Mueller resign, that whole leftist manufactured investigation should be shut down.

Liberalism v. Conservatism...and the Ever-Increasing Gray Area in Between

Lately on facebook there seems to be a pushing of a doctrine of sorts but not from by what I call the 'facebook gods' or from the left but from those 'supposedly' on the right...from those 'supposedly' on the conservative side yet those who cannot accept a difference of opinion even from those they claim they are aligned with. In subjects ranging the gamut from future presidential preferences to constitutional interpretation to things of an everyday political nature, with that of course including what they deem should be our county's religious nature...these folks are dividing conservatives even more so than the liberals do.

And these uber far-right sorts are not just of the libertarian kind pretending to be either Conservatives or Republicans nor are they solely of the 'holier than thou' sort...what I call the 'God police'...but are those who simply make things up or who make it their divine mission to read words into statements said that are simply not there thus twisting another's beliefs in such a way as to either fit into what they deem is the right belief or else to publicly chastise the poster for not believing as they do.

Calling themselves conservatives, these folks are anything but, for while they love to wear the clothes of conservatism, they truly do push forward a liberal progressive agenda of sorts...progressivism as in it is their way of viewing conservatism with no other way either tolerated yet alone allowed. To them it is not just Republican v. Democrat but them v. all who disagree with their way of thinking as they willingly choose to forget that not all Republicans are hard core conservatives per se, just as not all Democrats are far-left liberal loons.

Now choosing to ignore the growing in numbers more moderate branch of conservatives... as in those who remain far-right on the critical and all-important issues of the economy, health care, immigration, national defense, our military, the Second Amendment, and the Constitution as the rule of law above above all else...this growing number includes people like me who are indeed more moderate on the 'so-called' social issues for we know and understand that the social issues...that all the social issues...belong solely to the states.

Holding nationalism dear...no hyphenated Americans for us nor nationalism based upon race...those in the 'gray area' of moderate conservatism do not fall in lock-step with the rhetoric of the far-right for we value our freedom of speech and engaging in debate for we know well that these and other rights and other liberties afforded us are guaranteed to us by law...by the Constitution itself...and may not be infringed upon except by due process of the law. In other words, nothing the far-right says will stop us from voicing our opinions. And nowhere is this more obvious than in the case of religion for we in the moderate-right understand well our Founders and Framers intent and implementation of 'separation of church and state' while at the same time we keep God in our hearts while we consciously choose not to wear Him on our in-public sleeves...something that remains a hallmark of the uber far-right.

Remember, nationalism's tenets must always continue to encompass what is known as a 'free and just society' and a 'free and just nation'...with both setting their individual futures and their individual destinies without the burdens of both foreign interference or of a single religion's dogma dictating how we as Americans must live our lives. And while we moderate conservatives accept and honor the truth that our nation's foundations might well lie within the Holy Bible of the Christians and the Jews, we also know that no one religion alone must ever become our nation's religion for if so we then we become a theocracy...the very thing out Founders and Framers never wanted or intended this nation...this republic...to be.

And even when religion is not part of any given dialogue...remember the liberals would like to see God permanently removed from the public discourse...the fact remains that far-right conservatives and far-left liberals approach both God and almost every other issue facing us with a completely different set of ideologies, values, methods, and goals, while more moderate conservatives and their counterpart moderate liberals...liberals of the 'blue dog' kind who value fiscal conservative polices over Democratic party partisanship and politics...can see and engage in shared commonalities once party labels are cast aside.

And those party labels encompass the difference between how the liberal Democrats and the conservative Republicans view both the past in relation to the present and in how each should or should not be preserved for future generations. And while those of us who embrace conservative values...whether we be of the far-right conservative sort or of the moderate kind...we together know that liberals...that Democrats...are for the most part believers in the concept that 'anything goes' which goes hand-in-hand with their looking forward to and embracing change via a well-funded united front that helps them increase their voting base even if it means that they have to buy party loyalty via 'free stuff.'

Yet we conservatives...we Republicans...we moderates...on the other hand honor and relish the past, yet for some reason we as a whole fear change whether it be on a personal or on a national level. And while we rightly accept the concept of personal responsibility for one's actions...so different from the liberals who relish in social responsibility...the 'it takes a village' philosophy that society as a whole has some innate responsibility to care for the individual...a philosophy that simply has proven time and time again not to work...we understand that the kind of responsibility liberals want is one that shows immediate yet short-lived results instead of taking the time needed to accomplish true lasting and beneficial results.

And here is where we more moderate conservatives...or more moderate Republicans if you will...come into play for while we strongly adhere to the core values of staunch conservatism...as in God, country, guns, and family...we also see the inevitable need for positive change...change which would allow us to move on from the antiquated ideas and concepts that the far-right conservatives continue to try to force down our throats. We moderates do not fear change as the far-right so often does as long as said change is productive, beneficial, and above all else follows the Constitution while at the same time limits, if not outright decreases, government interference in our personal lives, for as per Henry David Thoreau's dictum states, "That government is best which governs least."

 

And while our far-right conservative brothers and sisters love to call we moderates RINOs, nothing could be further from the truth for the RINOs are complicit with the Democrats in helping to make situations go from bad to worse, while true moderate Republicans...true moderate conservatives...speak more for what the majority of what 'We the People' want than do those of the far-right or RINO kind. And while RINOs pander to Democrats in the name of bi-partisanship, all said pandering does is help push forward the left's liberal agenda while moderate Republicans...moderate conservatives...will never sellout on God, country, guns, or family even as we accept as fact that social change is inevitable... inevitable as long as it is Constitutionally sound that is. In other words, RINOs will sellout the Constitution if need be while true moderates...like me...will not.

And dare we forget that both the RINOs and Democrats embrace the doctrine of a New World Order while we who are social moderates...for what constitutes societal norms is at the crux of moderate conservatism...will not now or ever go to the side of those who both believe in and who desire a one world government totally devoid of all individuality, religion, and nationalism. Our far-right brethren have nothing to fear from us but if they would be willing to open their eyes while shutting their mouths they might learn a lesson or two for the answer to solving problems never lies in the extremes but always lies in the middle where commonalities of wants requires solutions gleamed from intelligent well thought out ideas...ideas instead of from emotions run amok which seems to be the guiding force of both the far-right and the far-left.

So while it has become apparent to me that my battle against both the far-right and the far-left will sadly continue on...and know that I never run from a fight...I will stand by both my Republican and moderate conservative values, principals, and ideals for the Constitution is and will forever remain the law which I choose to live by. And if you do not like my words 'defriend' me as facebook says for those who are unwilling to see beyond their far-right political indoctrination...for indoctrination is truly what it is...or who are unwilling to even entertain an idea not of their own...are not worth my energy or time for it is constructive debate that closes ideological gaps...close mindedness only turns gaps into insurmountable chasms that will never be crossed.

And by the way, President Donald Trump is in that gray area...a true moderate conservative like me...so I know I am in pretty good company...just saying.

'Smoking Gun': Goodlatte Claims Obama DOJ Prevented Conservative Groups From Receiving Settlement Funds

The Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Bob Goodlatte says he has received a “smoking gun” email that shows former President Obama Justice Department blocked conservative groups from receiving settlement payouts, even though liberal groups were given the money.

“It is not every day in congressional investigations that we find a smoking gun,” Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., said Tuesday. “Here, we have it.”

According to the internal DOJ emails Goodlatte released Tuesday, officials chose which groups received the settlement funds, and even may have intervened to ensure conservative groups didn’t receive money.  

While Eric Holder was U.S. attorney general, the Justice Department allowed prosecutors to strike agreements compelling big companies to give money to outside groups not connected to their cases to meet settlement burdens. Republican lawmakers long have decried those payments as a “slush fund” that boosted liberal groups, and the Trump DOJ ended the practice earlier this year. […]

Robert Mueller is Closing In…On the Democrats

Democrats have been watching, waiting, and hoping that Special Counsel Robert Mueller will bring home the goods and find something so damning that they will be able to throw President Donald Trump out of the White House and into a prison cell. But as we found out this week, the Democrats may wish they had never pursued the Russian collusion investigation with quite this much fury. Because if anyone’s going down, it’s not President Trump – it’s the Democrats.

According to an NBC News report, the Mueller investigation is turning its eye towards the Podesta Group, a lobbying firm run by Tony Podesta, the brother of John Podesta – former Obama White House staffer and former campaign chairman of Hillary Clinton. The Podesta Group is being investigated for their failure to register as a foreign agent when doing lobbying work on behalf of a non-profit called the European Centre for a Modern Ukraine.

The sources said the investigation into Podesta and his company began as more of a fact-finding mission about the ECMU and [Paul] Manafort’s role in the campaign, but has now morphed into a criminal inquiry into whether the firm violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act, known as FARA.

NBC: Green Berets Were Chasing ISIS Terrorist in Niger

The U.S. commando unit attacked in Niger earlier this month was tracking an Islamic State terrorist recruiter, NBC News reported Tuesday, citing "multiple" U.S. sources.

The officials did not identify the target of the U.S. Army Special Forces detail that was ambushed by about 50 Islamic State militants, the network added. Four American soldiers and five Niger troops were killed in the fight Oct. 4, but specifics of the attack remain unclear.

Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in a press conference Monday outlined the known details of what began as a reconnaissance mission.

"I don't have any indication right now to believe or to know that they did anything other than operate within the orders that they were given," Dunford said.

"That's what the investigation's all about. So I think anyone that speculates about what special operations forces did or didn't do is doing exactly that, they're speculating."

NBC added that one official "with direct knowledge of the military's investigation" into the ambush said the Green Berets were gathering information about terrorist suspect and might have been betrayed by villagers sympathetic to Islamic militants linked to al-Qaida and the Islamic State.

About 1,000 American soldiers are in the West African nation to provide support for Niger troops.

Donald Trump to Kill Boeing Plane Sale to Iran

President Donald Trump’s administration is poised to halt a Boeing sales deal with Iran.

The airline is tied to terror activities. And Congress is concerned Boeing’s sales of several Airbus category planes — approved by the former Barack Obama administration — might result in the enabling of Iran’s transfer of terrorists across the region.

The Washington Free Beacon has the story:

The Obama administration’s nuclear agreement with Iran paved the way for U.S. aerospace corporation Boeing to ink a deal with Iran’s state-controlled airline, Iran Air, which was recently caught using its commercial planes to ferry Iranian militants to regional hotspots.

The Trump administration’s recent decision to increase economic pressure on Iran and rework the nuclear agreement has prompted a shift in thinking on the Boeing sales, which require special licenses from the Treasury Department to move forward, according to U.S. officials and those in Congress who are familiar with the shift in thinking on the issue.

The Trump administration is said to be viewing the sales with an increasingly critical eye and is moving, at this point, toward killing the sales, according to these sources, who pointed to concerns over Iran Air’s use of commercial airplanes for terrorism purposes.

Gold Star father and White House Chief of Staff Gen. John Kelly was “stunned” and “brokenhearted” that “a member of Congress would have listened in” on a president’s phone call to the widow of a fallen soldier as did Florida District 24 Rep. Frederica Wilson.

“I thought at least that was sacred,” Gen. Kelly said as a true look of sorrow...a haunting ever-etched in his conscience look of sorrow...crossed his face, “When I was a kid growing up, a lot of things were sacred. Women were sacred, life was sacred; that’s gone. Religion, that seems to be gone as well. Gold Star families – I think that left at the convention over the summer, but I just thought the selfless devotion that brings a man or woman to die on the battlefield – I just thought that might still be sacred”...and with those words spoken... spoken with an authority few have heard...you could hear a pin drop as an eerie yet awe inspiring silence overtook the White House briefing room.

“And when I listened to this woman, and what she was saying, what she was doing on TV...the only thing I could do to collect my thoughts was to go walk among the finest men and women on this earth. You can always find them at Arlington National Cemetery,” were Kelly's words spoken as they brought back the pain of not only his own Marine son lost, but with painful remembrances that “among the stones” were those he put there because “they were doing what I told them to do when they were killed.”

Dear God how does but a mortal man manage what must be never ending pain knowing that someones beloved husband or wife, mother or father, son or daughter, brother or sister is gone forever because of an order you gave no matter that said order saw them doing the most important selfless act afforded only to the truly brave...those so brave as to give up their life to assure that freedom not only lives on but thrives in those now forever left behind.

Only the honorable, the decent, the good could survive such pain by knowing in their heart they did what had to be done and only the dishonorable, the indecent, and the truly vile could turn the general's words said into political fodder for their own political and personal gain. Such is the case of Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson who in doing what she did cast a pallor of darkness and the misery of contempt over those who mourn a loved one lost to the horrors of war. 

“I hope, as you write your stories, let’s not let this last thing that is sacred — a young man or woman giving his or her life for country — let’s somehow keep that sacred. It eroded a great deal yesterday by the selfish behavior of a member of Congress,” were the so truthful last words Gen. Kelly said that day to the assembled press corp.

And one would think that after all the general said that a decent person would back down...might even apologize for words and actions previously taken...but not Frederica Wilson who now thinks she is a “rock star” for taking the president and a general on. By saying a few hours after Gen. Kelly spoke that, “John Kelly’s trying to keep his job. He will say anything,” what this vile woman is doing is first, not addressing this 4-star general with the due respect he deserves nor is she speaking of her true disdain for our veterans which is a matter of congressional record, for the fact is that Frederica Wilson has more times than not voted against measures intended to help veterans and their families.

And no matter that she now squawks that she is totally “committed to honoring our service members, not only with words but with deeds,” Frederica Wilson did vote against most of the bills that would continue the funding for veteran benefits, including payments to the widows of fallen soldiers as well as her opposing the much needed measures designed to help improve the Department of Veterans Affairs. Wilson opposed the 'Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act,' which prevented a government shutdown and provided funds for the U.S. military and the V.A.

In June of this year, Frederica Wilson voted against the 'Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act'...an act to establish a special department within the V.A. that would help improve accountability and protect any and all whistleblowers by appointing a special assistant to serve as the new department’s executive director's secretary and whose duties would include the ability to remove...to fire...federal employees when necessary...dead weight federal employees not on our veterans side.

And for those who don't know, Frederica Wilson also voted against the 'Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act' which would allow our veterans deemed “mentally incompetent” to buy firearms, unless found by a judge to be a danger to themselves or others. Remember, mental incompetency has become a much overused catch phrase that liberals love to throw at any and all current gun owners or those wishing to purchase a firearm.

By now we all know that what started as Rep. Wilson criticizing President Donald Trump's condolence phone call to Mysehia Johnson, the now Gold Star widow of Army Sgt. La David Johnson...one of the four Americans killed in Niger earlier this month...has become a controversy that shows no sign of abating any time soon. And why...simply because the left relishes in keeping it going and to make sure it does the left has now added the hot button topic of racism into the mix with Wilson claiming the phone call itself was “racial charged” because Sgt. Johnson was black.

And Wilson claims this because Trump's (anything but) racist words in his phone call “upset his widow.” Well of course they did...her husband had recently died...not to have been upset should have been the thing to raise suspicions not the other way around.

This is a lie on all accounts for calling the families...no matter the race of those fallen in war...has long been something many presidents in their role as Commander-in-Chief have done. In fact, President Trump called all four families of those killed in the Niger ambush...and he called them specifically to express his deep personal condolences...something Barack HUSSEIN Obama did not do when 1st Lt. Robert Kelly, the son of Gen. Kelly, was killed in Afghanistan in 2010. Maybe there was some racial overtones in that lack of action on Obama's part that the left chooses to turn a blind eye to.

“There is no perfect way to make that phone call,” Gen. Kelly said at the press briefing as he told those assembled that his first advice to President Trump was not to place those calls because it is not a phone call family members look forward to as, “There is nothing you can do to lighten the burden of these families.” Then adding words to the affect that the most important phone calls come from a dead soldier's buddies on the field, however, when asked about the best wording for such calls Gen. Kelly told President Trump, and again I quote, “Let me tell you what my best friends told me: He was doing exactly what he wanted to do when he was killed. He knew what he was getting into by joining that 1%. He knew what the possibilities were, because we’re at war. And, when he died, he was surrounded by the best men on Earth, his friends.”

“Surrounded by the best men on Earth”...no truer words ever spoken.

And that is exactly what President Trump tried to say in his own special way...that Johnson was a “brave man, a fallen hero” when he placed those calls not just to Sgt. Johnson's widow but to the families of the other three men killed that fateful day and he did so with not a hint of racism in his words or in his heart for this president sees the uniform not the color of the man or woman wearing it.

And what President Trump's call to Sgt. Johnson's widow get him...Frederica Wilson saying, “The White House itself is full of white supremists.” 
 
No...I don't think so for the only supremacist...this now of the black kind...is Frederica Wilson herself who took Gen. Kelly's words defending President Trump...words said that “even for someone who is an empty barrel, we were stunned”...and twisted them into a racist remark when she had no idea what those words even meant.

“That’s a racist term ― thinking about that, we looked it up in the dictionary because I had never heard of an empty barrel and I don’t like to be dragged into something like that,” she said. And just in case you are wondering who “we” is...Frederica Wilson was referring to her buddies in the Black Caucus...her buddies who think they alone in their blackness are better than anyone else.

But her racist claimed words are again but another lie for the term 'empty barrel' came from the proverb “empty vessels make most noise” that dates back to the 15th century and possibly even to the time of Plato. In fact, the Oxford Dictionary of Word Origins, states that the proverb means that “foolish people are always the most talkative.” And the Oxford Dictionary of Proverbs defines the term to mean that, “Shallow people with nothing valuable to say are the most talkative or noisy.”

Even the snowflakes and the uneducated's favorite Urban Dictionary, as of Friday last, states that being called an “empty barrel,” while not a flattering term, is in no way a racial term as Wilson claims.

And if Frederica Wilson can lie about a word's meaning...
if she can turn a condolence phone call made by the President of these United States into words of racism...if she can turn the words of a decorated 4-star general who also is a Gold Star father into words of hate for black soldiers...than Frederica Wilson can go to hell and take the (I believe) lying, race baiting Black Caucus with her.

May God bless all who serve in today's theaters of war...may God keep safe John Kelly Jr. now serving his fifth tour against ISIS...may God lighten the burden and pain Gen. Kelly carries in his heart everyday...may God grant President Trump the wisdom and strength to deal with the hate and lies thrown at him...and may God put His hand over the mouth of a shameful woman who continues to dishonor all who not only wore the uniform of our great nation but those who died protecting her.

Silence is golden Frederica...silence is something you surely need to learn.

Carter Comes to Trump's Defense on These Five Issues in NYT Interview

Former President Jimmy Carter may be a liberal Democrat but he seemed to be supportive of President Trump on a number of issues in an interview with The New York Times.

Carter told the Times’s Maureen Dowd that Trump has been treated worse by the media than any other president he can remember.
 
“I think the media have been harder on Trump than any other president certainly that I’ve known about,” Carter said. “I think they feel free to claim that Trump is mentally deranged and everything else without hesitation.”

The 39^th president, who admitted he voted for Sen. Bernie Sanders in the primary, also praised Trump’s diplomatic efforts in the Middle East.

He also said he liked Trump’s initiative reaching out to Saudi Arabia. He doesn’t know Jared Kushner but is not totally dismissive of the idea that the son-in-law could succeed where others have failed.
