Perry, Other Republicans Selling Their Souls to Trump

"Let no one be mistaken: Donald Trump's candidacy is a cancer on conservatism, and it must be clearly diagnosed, excised and discarded," former Texas Gov. Rick Perry declared 10 months ago. Trump's candidacy, Perry added, represents "a toxic mix of demagoguery and mean-spiritedness and nonsense that will lead the Republican Party to perdition if pursued."

 

Lest you're thrown off by the alliteration, "perdition" means eternal damnation in Hell.

Perry has since had an epiphany, selling his political soul for a seat on the Trump Train. He even says he's open to being Trump's running mate, which would make him a co-pilot (or co-conductor?) leading us down the tracks to Hell. ("Can I blow the whistle Mr. Trump?")

As Thomas More might say, "Why Rick, it profits a man nothing to give his soul for the whole world ... but to be Donald Trump's valet?

Taking his words literally, Perry wants to make a deal with the devil. In this war on cancer, Perry wants to help cancer win "any way I can."

Perry is far from alone in his hypocrisy. With the exception of Sen. Ben Sasse, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and a handful of others (including, I hope, Sens. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio), the Republican aristocracy is for the most part bending its knee to the new king, proving that much of the "establishment" is exactly as craven as Trump always claimed.

The push back against Donald Trump is about far more than Republican "elites" at war with Republican voters, which is what some claim.

They say that Trump captured the strong anti-establishment sentiments of voters and that an entrenched Washington establishment won't accept this new reality.

Understand that Trump, a man with ambition and no principles, is not anti-establishment.

"Establishment" is not about whether you work in politics or live in Washington. It is about the unprincipled, promiscuous use of power to advance personal interests, with disregard for any sense of truth and integrity, or the national welfare. This is Donald Trump.

After becoming a Christian conservative many years ago, I became a Republican to fight for limited government and traditional values.

As a former welfare mother, who saw her communities being destroyed by the Democrat left-wing agenda, I fought for welfare reform. As result, I was invited to speak at the Republican National Convention in 1996.

During the same time period, Donald Trump was making most of his political contributions to Democrats and to the Democratic Party. This included Trump's support for Harlem's Charlie Rangel, the Black Caucus Democrat who represented everything that was destroying America's minority communities.

Report: Israeli fighter jets strike weapons convoy headed to war

Israeli Air Force fighter jets struck a weapons convoy headed into the hands of Hezbollah fighters in Syria, Channel 2 citing Arab media sources reported Tuesday.

The attack allegedly occurred on the Syrian-Lebanese border earlier in the afternoon and struck a number of vital positions important to the terror organization.

Channel 2 added that the Israeli Air Force struck the weapons convoy near a Syrian "rebel safe-haven" where Hezbollah militants were allegedly stationed.

If the reports are confirmed, it would not be Israel's first military excursion into enemy territory to stop the transfer of weapons to its arch nemesis Hezbollah.  

Last month, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged for the first time that Israel has taken action dozens of times beyond the northern border to prevent Hezbollah from attaining “game-changing” weaponry.”

“We are proud that, in the stormy and volatile Middle East, we were able to maintain relative calm and relative safety in Israel. We act when we should act, including here, across the border, in dozens of attacks, to prevent Hezbollah from acquiring game-changing weaponry,” the premier said.

Netanyahu said Israel was acting on other fronts as well, “nearby and far away, but are doing it in an intelligent manner.” The country, he said was facing Islamic State and Hezbollah in the north, Hamas and Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip and Islamic State and global jihadists in Sinai.

Speaking to the soldiers, Netanyahu said: “This is our country, and we need to defend it; nobody else will defend it except us.
