Stolen Nuclear Compounds: Dirty Bombs and Nukes for Islamic State (IS)

 Pamela Geller / Atlas Shrugs

The global jihad with nukes — that will grab everyone’s attention. It’s only a matter of time.

Will the Islamic supremacists and their leftist lapdogs blame that on the islamophobes, too?
“Stolen uranium compounds not only dirty bomb ingredients within ISIS’ grasp, say experts,” FOX News, July 15, 2014
Plenty of materials for a potential dirty bomb are likely scattered throughout the area of Iraq controlled by ISIS, and pulling off an attack that spreads even a minor amount of radiation could be a huge PR coup for the terror group, experts told FoxNews.com.
Last week, the Iraqi government in Baghdad warned the UN that ISIS operatives had stolen 88 pounds of uranium compounds from Mosul University. Even though many experts said the research materials were not enough to cause widespread harm, spreading fear is even more important to terrorists than a big body count, one terrorism expert said.
And with ISIS in control of a huge swath of northern Iraq and parts of Syria that includes research labs, hospitals and industrial sites, ingredients for radiation-spreading bombs are within its grasp.
“Obtaining radiological material from places like universities or hospitals is relatively easy if you have the firepower, a chaotic situation and jihadists willing to sacrifice their health handling it,” said Ryan Mauro, national security analyst for The Clarion Project, a think tank that studies Islamic extremism. “We aren’t talking about...

Libya: Jihadists shell airport, destroying 90% of planes, UN pulls staff

“The U.N. mission in Libya said the closure of Tripoli airport and the deteriorating security situation made it impossible for it to operate. Three years after the fall of Moammar Gadhafi, Libya has slipped deeper into chaos with its weak government and new army unable to control brigades of former rebel fighters and militias who often battle for political and economic power.” Not that the UN does any good in Libya or anywhere else, but this entire situation in Libya is all thanks to…Barack H. Obama.

“Tripoli Airport Shelling Destroys Planes; U.N. Pulls Libya Staff," NBC News, July 15, 2014 (thanks to Twostellas):
TRIPOLI, Libya – A militia shelled Tripoli airport, destroying 90 percent of planes parked there, a Libyan government spokesman said Tuesday as heavy fighting between armed groups prompted the United Nations to withdraw its staff. At least 15 people have been killed in clashes in Tripoli and the eastern city of Benghazi since Sunday, and a Libyan official said several Grad rockets hit the Tripoli International Airport on Monday, damaging the control tower.
Government spokesman Ahmed Lamine said 90 percent of the planes parked at the airport were destroyed. “Several planes and cars belonging to citizens were hit,” said Abdel Rahman, a soldier in a unit protecting the airport. A hall used by customs controls had also been hit, he added. The U.N. mission in Libya said the closure of Tripoli airport and the deteriorating security situation made it impossible for it to operate. Three years after the fall of Moammar Gadhafi, Libya has slipped deeper into chaos with its weak government and new army unable to control brigades of former rebel fighters and militias who often battle for political and economic power.
Hope and Change :  circa 1938

1938 Austria

Kitty Werthmann is 85 years old. This is a SCARY piece of HISTORY. Read & perhaps learn something new from HISTORY and "CHANGE".

America truly is the Greatest Country in the World.
By: Kitty Werthmann

What I am about to tell you is something you've probably never heard or will ever read in history books.

I believe that I am an eyewitness to history. I cannot tell you that Hitler took Austria by tanks and guns; it would distort history. We elected him by a landslide - 98% of the vote. I've never read that in any American publications. Everyone thinks that Hitler just rolled in with his tanks and took Austria by force.

In 1938, Austria was in deep Depression. Nearly one-third of our workforce was unemployed. We had 25% inflation and 25% bank loan interest rates.

Farmers and business people were declaring bankruptcy daily. Young people were going from house to house begging for food. Not that they didn't want to work; there simply weren't any jobs. My mother was a Christian woman and believed in helping people in need. Every day we cooked a big kettle of soup and baked bread to feed those poor, hungry people - about 30 daily.

The Communist Party and the National Socialist Party were fighting each other. Blocks and blocks of cities like Vienna , Linz , and Graz were destroyed. The people became desperate and petitioned the government to let them decide what kind of government they wanted.

We looked to our neighbor on the north, Germany , where Hitler had been in power since 1933. We had been told that they didn't have unemployment or crime, and they had a high standard of living. Nothing was ever said about persecution of any group -- Jewish or otherwise. We were led to believe that everyone was happy. We wanted the same way of life in Austria . We were promised that a vote for Hitler would mean the end of unemployment and help for the family. Hitler also said that businesses would be assisted, and farmers would get their farms back. Ninety-eight percent of the population voted to annex Austria to Germany and have Hitler for our ruler.

State Police Now Fingerprinting Every Texan

This story by Jon Cassidy originally appeared at Watchdog.org.

HOUSTON – The Texas Department of Public Safety has quietly embarked on a project to take the fingerprints of every Texan old enough to drive over the next 12 years, and add them to a statewide criminal history database.

Not only has the department made that momentous decision on its own, it doesn’t even have clear legal authority to do so.

The credit for breaking the news on those two items goes to consumer affairs columnist Dave Lieber of the Dallas Morning News, whose long-running “Watchdog” column often shows up in my Google Alerts, for obvious reasons.

As an old-school columnist, Lieber tends to keep his opinions subdued, and he doesn’t generally call people dishonest. But I have no problem with doing that, so I’d like to point out that the DPS spokesman he quotes at length is less than straightforward about his department’s legal authority.

Last month, Lieber broke the news that DPS had started collecting full sets of fingerprints on everyone who went in to renew their license.

Friday, he followed up with a story on DPS’ dubious legal authority to do so, and then posted lengthy quotations on the issue to his blog.

Lieber quotes an entire email from DPS spokesman Tom Vinger, who quotes Transportation Code Sec. 521.059 at length, including the key phrase, “The department shall establish an image verification system based on the following identifiers collected by the department: …an applicant’s thumbprints or fingerprints.”

So clearly, the law contemplates the collection of fingerprints under some circumstance, but the passage quoted by Vinger doesn’t mention anything else about it.

You could look up that section of law online, but the sections immediately surrounding it in the Texas Transportation Code don’t clarify the matter.

To get the full context, you’d have to go back to the original bill that was signed into law, and then look up the relevant section of law, which states that an application for a drivers’ license  “must include: 1) the thumbprints of the applicant or, if thumbprints cannot be taken, the index fingerprints of the applicant.”

So that’s why the law mentions fingerprints — it’s index fingerprints, not a full set of 10 fingerprints.

While the law mentions that those records can be used by law enforcement agencies investigating a crime, it doesn’t say anything about making them generally available in a criminal database.

According to Lieber, a political science professor at Texas Christian University named Donald W. Jackson, who has a new organization called the North Texas Civil Rights Project, is offering legal support if anybody wants to challenge this new policy in court.

Lieber says the solution is for the Legislature to pass a clear law on the matter. I’d add that it throws into question the wisdom of having a law enforcement agency oversee licensing at all. The investigative function will always trump privacy rights.
More Lost Emails: FEC Destroyed Hard Drive of Ex-Lerner Employee:

The destruction of former IRS official Lois Lerner's computer hard drive, the Federal Election Commission recycled the hard drive of one of her former employees, adding to the list of emails that have gone missing in relation to the IRS's targeting of conservative groups.

In a letter to the FEC, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa and committee member Jim Jordan blasted the destruction of FEC attorney April Sands' hard drive, saying it has hindered the investigation.

"The FEC's failure to retain Ms. Sands' hard drive prevented the FEC Office of Inspector General from fully pursuing appropriate criminal sanctions for Ms. Sands' admitted violation of federal law," the letter said. "Like the IRS's destruction of Lois Lerner's hard drive, the FEC’s recycling of Ms. Sands' hard drive may have also destroyed material responsive to Freedom of Information Act and congressional oversight requests."

Sands resigned from the FEC in April after admitting to violating the Hatch Act, which bans executive branch employees from engaging in partisan political activities on federal time or at federal facilities.

She also had a history of tweeting criticism of Republicans while praising President Barack Obama, the Daily Caller reported.

"I just don't understand how anyone but straight white men can vote Republican. What kind of delusional rhetorical [sic] does one use?" Sands, who is black, wrote in a tweet on June 4, 2012.

A tweet by Sands on May 1, 2012, said, "Dear every single Republican ever, When will U learn that Barack Hussein Obama is simply smarter than U? Stand down, Signed #Obama2012 #p2."

And in a message on Aug. 25, 2012, Sands called Republicans her "enemy."

It is unclear whether Sands and Lerner communicated after Lerner's move to the IRS, the Daily Caller noted, but the Oversight Committee letter points out that Lerner was known to have communicated with other FEC employees after her move.

One might hope that with a full-blown catastrophe looming on our nation’s southern border, Democrats might have considered discarding their standard talking points memo -- blaming the crisis on former President Bush and the Republicans in the House -- and respond with a realistic plan worthy of America’s national leaders.

Alas, we are not so fortunate. Dead children literally are washing up on the shores of the Rio Grande -- a result of chasing the dream of amnesty spun by the likes of Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi. And the closest our brave commander-in-chief has ventured to the border with Mexico is 220 miles; and then only for a fundraiser in Austin.

Democrats claim Republicans in the House of Representatives are to blame for the chaos on our southern border, because they failed to adopt a “bipartisan” solution sent to them compliments of Harry Reid and his merry band of liberals in the Senate. Republicans rightfully note that Democrats never showed up to the negotiating table in good faith; always intending to present an unreasonable plan in order to “frame” the GOP with inaction and unleash Obama to act as he pleases.

Yet, one major player in this human tragedy at the border has largely been lost in the dusty billows of this partisan scuffle: Mexico.

Yes, Democrats intentionally created gridlock in Congress as a dangerous game of election-year brinkmanship; and yes, Republicans thus far have failed to move forward in the House with specific, targeted measures to protect the border and bring our 1980s-era legal immigration laws into alignment with 21st Century needs of American businesses.

However, allowing Mexico to continue its blatant stoking of America’s immigration crisis, presents itself a clear and present danger to our nation’s security and economic well being.

Make no mistake -- Mexico is the real problem. Obama can blame economic hardship, rampant gang violence and YouTube videos in Central America. But it is the Mexican government’s affirmative facilitation of this massive illegal border crossing that is directly responsible for the current conditions along the border. The resolution of this government-made crisis is quite simple:
immediately repatriate the illegal entrants to Mexico – the country from whence this latest surge of illegal aliens comes; and at the same time tell Mexico if it does not start addressing the problem, strict economic sanctions will be forthcoming.

Despite hand-wringing to the contrary by Administration officials, there is no law that prevents the United States from immediately sending these men, women and children back Mexico, especially given Mexico’s role in ensuring they are dropped off on our doorstep. And, if we need to temporarily house them for a few days in make-ship detention facilities, there is no need to spend millions of dollars on new buildings, or modernizing existing facilities; or – far worse -- transporting the illegal minors to households and community facilities across our country. We could also house them temporarily in tent cities, such as those proposed by my friend, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Of course, Mexico is not acting alone. In fact, a recent agreement between Mexico and Guatemala allows people from that Central American country to freely enter Mexico, lawfully travel the length of the country, and have Mexican officials turn a blind eye when they then illegally cross into the United States. This is nothing short of an international conspiracy to violate America’s laws and undermine our country’s sovereignty; and Democrats in the Administration and the Congress play right along.

The clearest example of this immigration bait set by Democrats is the Executive Order signed two years ago by Obama, known as the “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival” (DACA). As a result of this “Executive Action,” Obama directed the DHS to “exercise prosecutorial discretion as appropriate to ensure that enforcement resources are not expended on low priority cases.” A translation of this bureaucratic gobbledygook can be condensed into a single phrase: Immunity from deportation for children illegally in the United States.

Unilateral decisions such as this made by Obama are just some of the reasons parents in Mexico and other Central American countries are sending their kids northward. They hope and expect – not without some justification – that Obama soon will issue another such order granting a new round of immunity from deportation for kids coming across the border. Indeed, as recently as this past Monday, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest laid the groundwork for just such action, when he noted that immigrants who “face a credible threat of death upon their return to their home country” likely will be “granted humanitarian relief.” In a word -- Amnesty.

If things were not already bad enough from the meddling of Mexico, and the undermining of U.S. law by Democrats, now the United Nations is moving to insert itself into the crisis and add international pressure to treat all unaccompanied minors as “refugees.” Such a determination by the erudite minds at the U.N. would carry no legal weight in the U.S., but would embolden Democrats to double-down on polices that so far have pushed America to the brink.

Republicans in the House must act quickly in the short term to head off what could become an irreversible change to our way of life. In the longer term, the fall elections -- which hopefully will result in a Republican majority in the Senate -- and the 2016 presidential election – which finally will rid us of this awful president -- cannot come soon enough

Guy has been all over the resumption of hostilities between Israel and Hamas, the State Department-labelled terrorist organization this week. Naturally, the Left has largely taken a sympathetic and one-sided view of the conflict, falsely appraising Israel as the aggressor. Why? Because Israel hasn't suffered any fatalities yet -- thanks, in part, to its life-saving and necessary missile defense system.

That all changed today, however, when Israel’s first citizen was killed by Hamas-sponsored mortar fire:
An Israeli man delivering food to soldiers Tuesday at the border of the Gaza Strip was struck and killed by mortar fire, becoming the first Israeli death in more than a week of fighting between the country’s army and Hamas militants.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told The Associated Press that the man, in his 30s, was at the Erez Crossing with the Gaza Strip.
rime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu passionately defended his country’s right to defend its homeland and its people -- by any means possible if necessary, he said -- when confronted with belligerent and hostile aggressors. But he hasn’t ruled out diplomatic avenues to end the bloodshed, either. Today, for example, he signed a cease-fire agreement brokered by the Egyptians. The proposal, however, was ultimately rejected by Hamas.

Thus, with overtures of peace bearing little fruit -- and news that Israeli citizens are now dying from Hamas-propelled rockets -- Netanyahu told his countrymen in a television broadcast today that he will not stand idly by while Hamas continues to bring about Israel's ruination, according to Reuters:
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed Israel will intensify its week-old offensive against Hamas in Gaza after the Islamist group continued firing rockets at Israel instead of accepting an Egyptian-proposed ceasefire.
“It would have been preferable to have solved this diplomatically, and this is what we tried to do when we accepted the Egyptian proposal for a ceasefire, but Hamas leaves us no choice but to expand and intensify the campaign against it,” Netanyahu said in broadcast remarks.
So the bloodshed will continue. For what it’s worth, I’ll leave you with Dennis Prager’s latest column, in which he cogently explains why a nation so similar and with so much in common with the United States is so despised and shunned by the international community and the progressive left. Be sure to read it all.

Jindal Gives Conservatives Ammo To Attack Higher Premiums Under Obamacare

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, mulling a run for president as a Republican in 2016, is giving ammo to conservative leaders and congressional candidates to battle Democrats on how health-care premiums have gone up under Obamacare.

Jindal’s memo — the details of which were first reported Tuesday by The Daily Caller — is titled “Over 1.2 Trillion Reasons to Repeal Obamacare.” The memo is being sent out to conservatives on Tuesday by Jindal in his capacity as honorary chairman of the group America Next.

It takes issue with how President Obama Obama, during his first campaign for president in 2008, promised that his health-care plan would reduce premium costs for the average family by $2,500 per year.

“Contrary to candidate Obama’s promise,” Jindal’s memo states, “health insurance premiums have continued to rise every year President Obama has been in office.”

“Compared to a baseline year of 2008 — the year Barack Obama was elected — the average family premium for employer-sponsored coverage rose by more than $2,500 — $3,671, to be precise.”

Jindal’s study argues that Americans have faced a cumulative $6,388 per individual, and $18,610 per family, in higher premium costs.

“Individually, ever-rising insurance premiums place a tremendous squeeze on a hollowed-out American middle class — but collectively, these costs amount to a massive weight on an American economy struggling to grow,” the memo states. “All told, the American people have faced $1.2 trillion in higher health insurance premiums due to Obamacare’s failure to deliver.”

Jindal’s memo, which conservatives can use on the campaign trail this year, comes as he attempts to establish himself as an intellectual leader of the GOP.

In April, Jindal unveiled a health-care proposal — “The Freedom and Empowerment Plan: the Prescription for Conservative Consumer-Focused Health Reform.”

The governor said his plan repeals Obamacare while offering new proposals to lower health costs, guaranteeing access to people with pre-existing conditions and increasing health-care choices for consumers.
