4 Ways to Improve the Tax Bill

The Senate-passed tax bill is a policy triumph that will provide a shot of performance-enhancing drugs to the veins of the economy. It's not perfect, but with the combined effect of cutting business tax rates, eliminating the state and local tax deduction and repealing the Obamacare individual mandate tax, we are at the precipice of the biggest conservative policy victory since the Reagan years.

If Republicans were wise, the House would vote immediately to approve the Senate bill and get it to President Donald Trump's desk for signing before anything can go wrong. (Think Obamacare repeal fiasco.)

But since they are insisting on a conference, there are still a number of ways to further improve the bill, grow the economy even faster and counteract some of the liberal complaints against it. Some of these reforms were in the original campaign tax plan that Larry Kudlow and I helped draft for then-candidate Donald Trump.

Here they are:

1) No stealth capital gains tax hike.

As the Israeli leader returns from Europe after standing up to criticism and hostility, Mahmoud Abbas is in Egypt trying to force an Arab summit over US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Rather than repeat his support for a two-state solution, Prime Minister Netanyahu chose to tell European leaders that a “Palestinian state” may not be viable. Asked directly whether he still supports a two-state solution, Netanyahu responded by asking the 28 EU foreign minister whether such a state would be like “Costa Rica or Yemen?” The message was not lost on his hosts.

The former is a stable democracy in Central America, while the latter is in a state of war-blighted anarchy.

Netanyahu told reporters on his plane home that European nations “spoil” the Palestinians while US President Donald Trump, by recognizing Jerusalem as Israelis capital was, “telling them the truth.”

Netanyahu said he spoke with the foreign ministers of “almost all of the 28 EU member states” and that the conversation was “respectful from both sides.”

McMaster’s Huma Abedin, Dina Habib Powell, set to leave the White House

This is great news. Dina Habib Powell was part of the swamp, part of the willfully ignorant McMaster crowd that clearly opposes Trump’s agenda. Why is McMaster still there?

Daniel Greenfield said this about Dina Habib Powell: “The media dubbed her the Republican Huma Abedin. She’s been one of the most powerful women in two Republican administrations. She’s friends with Valerie Jarrett….Habib Powell had all the right friends. Like Valerie Jarrett. Arianna Huffington praised the White House for bringing her in. Her ex-husband heads up Teneo Strategy: the organization created by the same man who made the Clinton Foundation happen and which employed Huma Abedin. You could see her posing next to Huma, Arianna and a Saudi princess. You can see her photographed at the American Task Force of Palestine gala. The ATFP was originally Rashid Khalidi’s American Committee on Jerusalem. Khalidi was the former PLO spokesman at the center of the Obama tape scandal. And Habib Powell was there as a presenter at the Middle East Institute after a speech by the PLO’s Hanan Ashrawi….Dina Habib Powell is a deep part of the Republican establishment. Her top role at the NSC represents McMaster’s vision for our approach to Islam. And it’s an echo of the failed approach of the Bush years. Flynn made the NSC into a tool that matched Trump’s vision.
