Haley's Hail Mary strategy depends on open primaries
Sophia Cai / AXIOS
Nikki Haley
is seeking a complex — and unlikely — path to the GOP presidential
nomination by relying on independent and Democratic voters in 13 states
with primaries that are open to non-Republicans.
Why it matters: It's a long shot, but Haley's Hail Mary strategy might help her chip away at GOP front-runner Donald Trump as he faces legal challenges that could complicate his campaign.
Haley's
team is pinning its hopes on the primary formats in South Carolina,
Michigan and 11 of the 16 Super Tuesday states whose March 5 primaries
aren't limited to registered Republicans.
Zoom in: The former UN ambassador also is bashing Trump in a flurry of media appearances, daring him to debate her and embarking on a fundraising frenzy this week.
It's
a tough sell: The GOP's base continues to rally around Trump, who won
the season's first two contests, in Iowa and New Hampshire.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis
on Tuesday called for "Squad" member Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., to be
expelled from Congress, have her citizenship revoked, and deported from
the country over a speech she gave which critics alleged Omar put the
interests of Somalis over Americans.
The clip of Omar’s Jan. 27 speech, which went viral this week, appeared to show the Somali-born
congresswoman assuring her constituents that she would use her
influence to ensure the breakaway Republic of Somaliland would not enter
a sea-access deal with Ethiopia.
A translation of the clip DeSantis re-shared shows Omar telling the
crowd: "The U.S. is a country where one of your daughters is in Congress
to represent your interest."
"For as long as I am in the U.S. Congress,
Somalia will never be in danger, its waters will not be stolen by
Ethiopia or others … Sleep in comfort, knowing I am here to protect the
interests of Somalia from inside the U.S. system." Read more, see Xs and videos here.

Marjorie Taylor Greene predicts Mayorkas impeachment articles will pass House without any Dem support
Greene introduced the impeachment articles in November, accusing Mayorkas of 'breach of public trust'
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., is predicting that not a single House Democrat will vote in favor of impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over the migrant crisis at the border.
The
House Homeland Security Committee is meeting Tuesday morning to advance
two articles of impeachment against Mayorkas – one for "willful and
systematic refusal to comply with the law," and the second accusing him
of a "breach of public trust."
"I still can't believe I had to
force the floor vote on the House floor," Greene told Fox News Digital.
"I guess I can be thanking these Democrats and these eight Republicans
now that those articles of impeachment were moved, that my articles were
moved to Homeland because… Chairman Mark Green and the other
Republicans on Homeland, having dealt face-to-face and gone through all
the hearings that we did, with all the witnesses that we brought in…they
had the will to impeach Mayorkas." Read more and see video here.

Arab officials held secret meeting to discuss plans for post-war Gaza
Barak Ravid / .axios.com
Senior national security officials from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt and the Palestinian Authority secretly met in Riyadh 10 days ago to coordinate plans for the day after the war in Gaza
and discuss ways to involve a revitalized Palestinian Authority in
governing there, three sources with knowledge of the meeting told Axios.
Why it matters: The meeting is another sign of the increased coordination between Saudi Arabia and the Palestinian Authority in recent months, especially since the war in Gaza started.
The
Palestinian Authority and its Arab allies are increasingly discussing
plans for the day after the conflict ends but the Israeli government has
said little about how it sees Gaza being governed if it achieves its
goal of defeating Hamas.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opposes
allowing the Palestinian Authority to have a role in Gaza but hasn't
proposed an alternative. Israeli Defense Forces chief of staff Gen.
Herzi Halevi warned
the Israeli security cabinet that the military gains in Gaza could go
to waste without an Israeli diplomatic plan for the day after.
The number of injured continues to climb after
Iran-backed militias killed three U.S. service members and injured
dozens more in an overnight attack on a military base in northeast Jordan.
By
late Sunday, the number of injured had climbed to 34 service members.
This included at least eight personnel whose injuries warranted an evacuation from Jordan to higher-level care, though they were believed to be in stable condition.
Fox
News is told all service members are being fully evaluated for
follow-on care. The number of injured was expected to fluctuate.
The injuries mostly include traumatic brain injury, though the number of
cases will likely go up as symptoms can take time to develop.
Militant groups targeted the logistics support base located at Tower 22 of the
Jordanian Defense Network. There are around 350 U.S. Army and Air Force
personnel deployed at the base to counter ISIS. Read more, see X and video here.

Ex-FBI officials warn Congress of 'new and imminent' border danger: 'The country has been invaded'
There were over 300,000 encounters at the border in December
A coalition of former FBI officials
has issued a warning about a "new and imminent danger" for the U.S. at
the southern border, suggesting the country has "been invaded" by
military-age foreign nationals.
In a letter sent
last week to congressional leaders in the House and Senate, the retired
officials "express our concern about a current, specific threat that
may be one of the most pernicious ever to menace the United States."
The
letter warns "the United States is facing a new and imminent danger"
and highlights what the officials say is a threat of an invasion at the
southern border, where there were over 302,000 migrant encounters in
December after a record fiscal 2023 in which there were 2.4 million
migrant encounters.
"In
its modern history, the U.S. has never suffered an invasion of the
homeland and, yet, one is unfolding now," they say. "Military aged men
from across the globe, many from countries or regions not friendly to

So, That's Why Biden Wants Israel to Scale Down Its War in Gaza
Matt Vespa / Townhall Tipsheet
Young voters are already frustrated that Joe Biden
couldn’t deliver on an actual student loan bailout. Biden didn’t have
the votes in Congress to pull off something of that scale, and doing so
by executive decree was later deemed constitutionally questionable. He
did so on a smaller scale because Joe, like crackhead Hunter, thinks the
rules don’t apply to him.
Still, it hasn’t masked the fact that young voters are souring on
Joe; they think he’s too old, and now he’s enabling genocide in Gaza.
You know there’s no genocide in Gaza. Still, the kiddos and the Muslim
voters here think Treblinka 2.0 is unfolding before our very eyes,
blinded to the fact that Hamas committed an actual genocidal terrorist
attack on October 7, 2023. Israel is killing terrorists. The Palestinian
people support Hamas and their attacks. I’m not crying over the death
toll. Read more and see X here.

John Kennedy Stumps Another Biden Nominee With Simple Question
Sarah Arnold / Townhall Tipsheet
Sen. John Kennedy
(R-LA) once again stumped a Biden judicial nominee after asking her a
simple question about how the Court of Federal Claims works.
This
week, Kennedy asked Biden nominee Robin M. Meriweather how many motions
she has argued in the court of federal claims. In response, she said,
“hundreds of motions involving complex civil claims in numerous courts,
the court of federal claims is not one of those courts.”
Kennedy confirmed the answer was
zero before he asked Meriweather to tell him the grounds for granting a
new trial in the Court of Federal Claims.
Meriweather continuously dodged the senator’s question, refusing to answer the grounds for granting a new trial.
"All of the trials in the Court of
Federal Claims are bench trials and the Court of Federal Claims,
although it is not bound by the federal rules of civil procedure, its
rules mirror those rules when applicable. So it’s my understanding that
the same rules that would apply in the district court are also applied
in that context, but if I...Read more, seeXs and video here.
Governor pledges to ship razor wire to Texas if Biden stops Abbott
A Republican governor of an interior state pledged to drive in razor wire on the border herself if Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is stopped by President Biden or federal forces from retaining operational control of a park in Eagle Pass.
Meanwhile,
the U.S. congressman who represents the area warned Biden would be an
"idiot" to commence a standoff or worse with Texas National Guard
members now using the park, as parallels were drawn to the last instance
of National Guard federalization 67 years ago.
South Dakota Gov.
Kristi Noem told Fox News that Abbott is doing the right thing by
standing firm after a Supreme Court ruling in which two conservative
justices sided with the liberals to vacate a lower court's order
preventing U.S. Border Patrol agents from accessing the park, which has
reportedly been a high-traffic illegal migrant arcade. The court’s
decision allows Border Patrol agents to cut concertina wire that Texas
had installed along the border near Eagle Pass while litigation...Read more see X and videos here.

The January 6 Committee Destroyed Encrypted Files
Matt Vespa / Townhall Tipsheet
When you have a terrible sales pitch, it’s best to
eliminate the materials. Except this wasn’t a sales pitch—it was an
official act of Congress that required evidence to be collected,
cataloged, and preserved. People were sworn under oath to make the case
that Donald Trump was Augusto Pinochet reincarnated, who tried to
overthrow the government on January 6, 2021. Then-Reps. Liz Cheney
(R-WY) and Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) staked their political careers on this
Democratic hit job and lost. Cheney got blown out in a primary
challenge, while Kinzinger opted not to seek reelection.
After months of this select committee, they turned up nothing that we
didn’t already know, which was that Trump didn’t foment an armed
rebellion, this wasn’t some cataclysmic event, and this was all one
massive Democratic Party fundraising operation—all of which was given
the stamp of bipartisan approval because of Kinzinger and Cheney’s
participation.
As Texas Gov.
Greg Abbott continues to tout the state’s right to self-defend itself
from a migrant invasion, some Democratic lawmakers are calling on
President Biden to take control of the state’s National Guard.
Abbott
issued a lengthy statement Wednesday, saying the federal government
broke the compact between the U.S. and the individual states.
"The
Executive Branch of the United States has a constitutional duty to
enforce federal laws protecting states, including immigration laws on
the books right now," Abbott said. "President Biden has refused to enforce those laws and has even violated them."
Abbott
is fighting multiple legal battles with the Biden administration, which
has threatened legal action over Texas’ seizure of Shelby Park near
Eagle Pass. Texas has also filed lawsuits against the administration,
which cut razor wire set up by the state on the Rio Grande to prevent
migrants from illegally crossing into Texas, as well as the
establishment of buoys on the river. Read more see Xs and video here.

After Trump's Win in New Hampshire, The Liberal Media Suffered Another Meltdown
Matt Vespa / Townhall Tipsheet
It’s hitting them, and the liberal media doesn’t know what to do.
Former President Donald Trump trounced former South Carolina Governor
Nikki Haley, who vowed to fight on despite this being the contest
to halt Trump’s momentum. It’s over. Either Haley doesn’t know it yet,
or she’s being forced to continue this unrealistic bid for the 2024
Republican nomination by the liberal donor class.
CNN didn’t carry Trump’s victory speech in New Hampshire. MSNBC could barely get through it.
If I had to guess, when Tom Homan, the former acting director of ICE,
spoke about immigration, that was when they cut the cameras.
The two primary liberal narratives against Trump are that he might be
senile, harping on a probable teleprompter screw-up, or he’s Adolf
Hitler in waiting. MSNBC is the leading manufacturing base for this
inanity. The senile part is laughable, being undercut when Nancy Pelosi
did her media spot and blew a fuse on live television. See Xs and videos here.
Trump ‘honored’ by New Hampshire win, says Republican Party is ‘very united’
Former President Trump
said he is “very honored” by his New Hampshire primary win Tuesday
night, telling Fox News Digital that the Republican Party is “very
united” behind his candidacy.
Trump
won the first-in-the-nation primary Tuesday night, defeating former
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. Trump also won the Iowa caucuses last
week.
During an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital shortly after the race was called, Trump said he was honored.
I’m very honored by the result,” Trump said.
New Hampshire
– where independent voters who make up roughly 40% of the electorate
can vote in either major party’s contest and have long played an
influential role in the state’s storied presidential primary – was
considered fertile ground for Haley. And Haley spent plenty of time and
resources in the state, securing the influential endorsement of popular
Republican Gov. Chris Sununu. Read more and see video here.

The Supreme Court Just Took a Side in the Biden Border Crisis
Spencer Brown / TTownhall Tip sheet
The Supreme Court sided with the Biden administration on Monday in a
split decision that will allow federal agents to cut razor wire
installed by Texas officials along the U.S.-Mexico border amid the
worsening crisis created by President Biden's policies.
The 5-4 decision granted an emergency appeal filed by the Biden
administration to reverse an injunction from the Fifth Circuit Court of
Appeals and now allows the feds to dismantle concertina wire while the
lawsuit over Texas' efforts to assume the duties of enforcing the
international border — a responsibility that's been abdicated by the
Biden administration — moves ahead.
According to the Court's order in Department of Homeland Security et al. v Texas:
"The application to vacate injunction
presented to Justice Alito and by him referred to the Court is granted.
The December 19, 2023 order of the United States Court of Appeals for
the Fifth Circuit, case No. 23-50869, is vacated.
Justice Thomas, Justice Alito, Justice Gorsuch, and Justice Kavanaugh would deny the application to vacate injunction." Read more and see X here.
US Defense officials say more large scale strikes conducted against Houthi forces

U.S. Defense officials said U.S. and U.K. ships and warplanes carried out multiple strikes on Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen on Monday.

The Media...An Enemy Within
By: Diane Sori / The Patriot Factor / Right
Side Patriots / Right Side Patriots Radio
The Op-ed posted here is my opinion alone, and does not necessarily
represent the views of blogspot.comnor Google.
Author's Note: This article was written before my chosen candidate Ron DeSantis dropped out of the race. The media's unceasing push for Trump and the Iowa Caucus going forward when it should have been delayed due to the weather...only 18.5% of the those eligible to vote where able to vote...set the stage for what was to follow.
“Absolutely outrageous that the media would participate in
election interference by calling the race before tens of thousands of
Iowans even had a chance to vote.” ”The media is in
the tank for Trump and this is the most egregious example yet.”
- DeSantis spokesperson Andrew Romeo
After last Monday's Iowa Caucus...believed by many to be a
“bellwether” for who will go on to become the presidential
candidate for each party....I am more convinced than ever that the
media... both mainstream and otherwise...are truly an “enemy
within.” Why
so...because while said caucus had basically just started, The
Associated Press declared a Trump victory at 7:31p.m. local time...a
mere 31-minutes into the caucus...with only eight of 99 Iowa counties
having reporting their results. And FOX immediately took their cue
from the AP as did other media outlets, thus basing their winning
call on but a mere 1,000 votes tallied in two or three precincts in a
rural area of Iowa...which equated to less than one percent of the
total votes yet to be counted.
Simply,
FOX was the first to officially declare Donald
Trump the Iowa Caucus winner...as they so hoped he'd be. After all Trump
is the very man FOX...and most especially Sean Hannity...has been
pushing down viewers throats for
months. And they did so no matter their standing,
in-place policy not to call any election until all the polls are
closed.
Guess FOX was too greedy to pass up a ratings bonanza, hence
bottom line monetary profits, not to do so. A ratings bonanza that in
actuality equated to a stab in the back for the other four candidates
and most especially for Iowa caucus goers themselves. How so? This
announcement by FOX was heard in the precincts where caucusing was
still ongoing with many folks still undecided and not yet having cast
their vote, along with votes already cast but yet to be counted
across the entirety of the state.
The fix was in, and FOX might as well now officially call itself “Trump Central” as their once “Fair and Balanced”
moniker is one for the media history books as their sole driving
force seems to be to dominate the entire media discourse by any and
all means possible. And last Monday night's actions has led me to
believe that FOX is...to some degree...guilty of overt
“election interference” and maybe even “election
suppression” by their...and the other networks...calling the
election caucus way too early not to have swayed votes.
And while some will say it would not have changed the final
outcome in favor of Trump, it indeed did. How so? While Trump might
still have been the winner, he might not have reached the
all-important 50% thresh hold which would have allowed the other
candidates to be awarded more delegates and Trump less delegates...a
key factor numbers wise in regards to the nominating convention.
So now FOX joins the collective of what I consider to be the media
being the one who actually does choose our candidates and nominees for
us...with no vacillation or disagreement allowed as to their discourse. No
wonder a recent Hill-Harris poll found that 33% of Americans deem the
media to be an “enemy of the people”...no wonder the
DeSantis campaign has called FOX News to task.
And while my chosen candidate Ron DeSantis did finish in second
place garnering nine Iowa delegates as opposed to Trump's 20; with
Nikki Haley garnering eight; Vivek Ramaswarmy getting three, and Assa
Hutchinson with no delegates allotted...this early call by FOX and
the others was not only unfair to all the candidates, but now the
Democrats are truly on their way to seeing a Trump/Biden rematch...s
something the majority of Americans still do not want to see
happening.
Why so...because most know well that the Democrats have had eight
years to fine tune their infamous “election irregularities”...to
put what amounts to “election fraud” in more politically
acceptable terms.
Another key component regarding the unfairness of Monday's caucus
itself, is the fact that Paul D. Pate...Iowa's Secretary of State and
also the State Commissioner of Elections...who, while this is not an
accusation by any means, was supported
by Trump in his run for Secretary of State...knew days ahead of
time...as did we all...what the severity of the weather on caucus
night would be. In fact, the weather was so bad Monday night that not
only did it break a two-decades-long low regarding frigid weather,
but saw minus 40-degree wind chills and roads encased in ice and snow
being what forced the majority of caucus goers to stay home...and
rightly so in such dangerous conditions.
Simply, Pate should have put the “health,
safety, and welfare” of Iowans first by postponing the
caucus, by at least a few days, until the system moved eastward and
away from Iowa, which would have allowed for what he had to know
would be a more representational vote tally across the state.
But sadly,
thanks to the weather, truly representational the caucus numbers were
not. And this can be seen in the actual tallies and corresponding
facts as they pertain to the how and why this worked out in Trump's
favor. First the numbers. Fact number I: Iowa has 594,533 registered
Republican voters of which only 110,298 of said voters showed up to
caucus due to the inclement weather. Fact 2: This translated into
only 18.5 percent of all those who could caucus actually caucusing
then voting, meaning 81.5 percent of Iowans were not...I repeat
not...able to caucus and vote, again because of the weather. Fact 3:
this most important of caucuses not only saw the lowest number of
voter turnout since 2000...a year when only 86,000 Iowa Republicans
were able to cast their ballots due to temperatures reaching but 5
degrees...a warm streak compared to last Monday night...but sadly was
decided by less than 20 percent of all Republicans who were eligible
to vote.
And now the media is on a Trump roll...for the liberal media it
means counting on Trump losing to Biden...while the conservative,
right-leaning media claims that Iowa is the start of a “domino
affect” for Trump, something they claim will be akin to Ronald
Reagan's landslide victory over Jimmy Carter in 1980. This was when
Reagan garnered 489 Electoral College votes along with 50.8% of the popular
vote as opposed to Carter's 41.0% of the popular vote and carrying
just six states and Washington, D.C.
But
even primary/caucus wins come replete with certain caveats,
one being that while Donald Trump...who is no Reagan...even the MAGA
slogan is not his...won the 2020 Iowa
Republican caucus, he did not win the general election. In fact, Iowa
has not determined the outcome of the actual presidential election
correctly but two times in the past six elections...not a great
record I'd say. And yet the media...especially FOX News...as I write
this...heralds this one caucus win that due to the weathers low voter
turnout does not
truly represent the whole of Iowa's Republican voters...yet they shove
Trump news down our throats in almost every news block.
And with reporting like that both Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley
have basically been deemed by FOX “talking heads” to be
losers months before the nominating convention has even taken place,
let alone all the primaries. And it's my opinion that this type of
reporting is indeed a form of “election interference” for
it leaves a bad taste in one's mouth that there's now no reason to go
vote...no reason because a once trusted news source has already
declared Trump the winner.
And the gullible and lazy amongst the uniformed and misinformed
Republican masses will fall into line and do as FOX is basically,
albeit veiled, telling them to do...as in only vote Trump...no matter this truly not funny under the dangerous weather conditions comment Trump made before the caucus started.
But it's not just the media “talking heads” that are
the problem, but so too are some of the print reporters. Take the
case of an article that appeared in last Thursday's “Townhall
Tipsheet” where Matt Vespa reported on possible Trump VP picks.
He listed four possible VP choices, Sen. Tim Scott (R-NC); Gov, Krisi
Noem (R-SD); Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL); and Rep. Elise Stefanik
(R-NY). But of these four mentioned, I believe Trump is more likely
to choose a women to counter Kamala Harris on the Biden ticket.
As for Trump loyalist Kristi Noem...a great governor able to
counter balance the ego and overblown rhetoric spewed by Trump
himself...saw Vespa pushing for New York Rep. Elise Stefanik who, at
this point in time, seems to be the one Trump is leaning towards
especially after his having recently stated that Stefanik, “would
be a killer VP pick.”
So why did Matt Vespa basically write South Dakota's governor out as a VP pick...because and I quote,
“Noem caved on trans athletes,” something
which is beyond a shadow of a doubt not true.
Let me briefly explain just how the media twists the facts to meet
its political agenda by using the above stated example. If Matt Vespa
had done his research instead of buying into the propaganda FOX and
others are spewing out, he would have found that SD-46, banned trans
youth from participating in school sports consistent with their
gender “identity.” Forced upon vote in 2021 to veto a bill
addressing this issue, Noem did so because of called into question
verbal “legalize”...”legalize” that would have opened
up South Dakota to numerous leftist initiated lawsuits...lawsuits
that might well have bankrupted the state.
Also, Vespa failed to
mention that later in 2021, Gov. Noem actually issued two executive
orders...stop gap measures to restrict participation on female sports
teams only to those “assigned female at birth." Then
in 2022, Noem rewrote the bill in correct “legalize”
which passed the legislature and
which she then signed into law.
In other words, Gov. Kristi Noem
first via executive order overrode the previous “legalized”
flawed bill giving herself some time to rewrite and replace said bill
with what was unchallenged wording, thus putting into law the very
thing Matt Vespa said she caved to.
I bring this up to show that it's not
just the left who are influencing the upcoming election courtesy of
words written or spoken, but that our side is too. In the case of
Townhall's Matt Vespa, this involves a possible VP choice...a choice which while
somewhat veiled could, he hopes, see his piece as a way to help sway those of us currently
supporting Ron DeSantis or Nikki Haley, to cross over to the Trump
side.
In the case of FOX News it's more in your face obvious that FOX
has indeed become the spokes-mouth for Trump, and will do any and
everything to see him win...which via viewership ratings puts money in their
pockets...even if it includes flooding the airwaves with
everything Trump giving little air time to his Republican opponents,
with the airtime they do give likely to be negative in nature.
Simply, unless the media in general is reigned in regarding their
overtly biased and partisan reporting...unless election fraud itself
is dealt with...which reality shows it has not even started to
be...we will continue to see the media complicit in dictating who the
candidates will be, meaning we will never see a fair unbiased
election again. A lack of ethics, common sense, and in Trump's case
decorum, will surely see to that. Case closed.
