Op-ed:
On Leaving the UN and NATO...Maybe

In my article last week titled “A Dangerous Symbolic Gesture” I dealt with how the United Nations and certain of our fellow NATO nations...as in France, the UK, and Canada...are now turning their backs on what was once their former ally Israel, and aligning with the UN's call for an “officially recognized” Palestinian State with full UN membership rights. And this got me to thinking about not only how dangerous the UN really is, but how there is now both a vocal and visual breach within our fellow NATO members ranks.

Politically siding with terrorists is one thing...as bad as it is...but to officially recognize them as a UN voting member “state” gives said terrorists both legitimacy and a worldwide platform by which to spew their nefarious cause, which in this case is to wipe the Jewish State of Israel off the map. And this has led me to also think about not just how the UN outwardly favors both those who commit terrorist acts...especially those terrorist acts committed against Israel...but how certain of our fellow UN members and NATO allies...most specifically France, the UK, and Canada...are now threatening to reward terrorists with their UN vote if Israel does not acquiesce to their specific set of demands in a misguided attempt at appearing relevant in the discourse regarding so called Palestinian statehood.

But in the scope of things those three nations are not as relevant as they want you or I to believe for their credibility and status is but in their minds alone as their countries are being overrun by the very sorts of people who engage in the same types of terrorist acts they now want to condone. And when this is added into the fact that the UN relishes in passing what are anti-Israel resolutions ad-nauseam, which has been their calling card for years...along with their decidedly anti-America sentiments...you really have to wonder why we and Israel are still member nations of what I call the “Useless Nations.”

And while we're at it we need to take another look at NATO as well for they, like the UN, so relish in taking what they can from us, but delivering little to nothing in return. And when the UN and NATO are coupled together it seems apparent to me that new alliances and friendships need to be forged.

So let's start with the fact that maybe it's time we walk away from the UN, the very organization that always seems to put global interests first whether they be right or wrong, thus they tend to ignore their own UN charter principals as laid out in ChapterOne: Purposes and Principles...which clearly states that the UN's goal is, “To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, and to take other appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace.” Words quite laughable at this point in time I'd say, as the UN no longer even bothers to veil their antisemitic resolutions nor their condoning of terrorist initiated actions against the Jewish state along with the fact that they continue to reward seats on their “Human Right's Council” to countries whose governments are oppressive dictatorial regimes. It's no wonder President Trump pulled us off said council for obvious reasons that truly need no explaining.

And what I've just stated is never mind the fact that the UN can always be counted on to try and undermine our U.S. interests especially in regards to President Donald Trump's “America First” foreign policy objectives and agenda. In fact, some current UN resolutions actually do violate or clash with our Constitutional law in areas regarding Congress having been constitutionally granted the power to regulate treaties and international agreements...agreements which, at times, tend to see us in conflict with the ICJ...the UN's International Court of Justice (aka the World Court)...with the one calling for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's arrest for supposed “war crimes” quickly coming to mind. Thankfully though, any UN resolution, court verdict, or declaration that contradicts U.S. law in any way is not legally binding here at home, and rightfully so.

Also, in the UN's failing to abide by their aforementioned founding principle, we find the world today so far away from “universal peace” that we are actually skirting on the precipice of World War III. And with the UN having done nothing of substance to help defuse what are dangerous regional conflicts, it's my opinion that the UN's upcoming September meeting regarding Palestinian statehood actually fuels the flames that are the fires of war.

A few years ago former UN Ambassador, South Carolina Governor, and 2020 Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley stated that, “When the United Nations consistently fails in its duty to act collectively, there are times in the life of states that we are compelled to take our own action.”

And take our own actions we should if for no other reason than the monies we give to help fund the UN is disproportionately out of line with what our fellow member nations contribute. Remember, the U.S. has and remains the UN's largest financial contributor, and has been so since its founding in 1945. In fact, in 2023 alone...the latest posted numbers...shows that we contributed close to $13 billion to the UN which accounts for more than a quarter of their collective budget. And while every member nation is required to help fund the UN, President Trump recently called for a review of our funding based upon the fact that the UN has either been unable or simply unwilling to help solve or even help temper down any of the ongoing conflicts, while their overt in-your-face biases help to initiate, feed, or extend said conflicts.

Just imagine what $13 billion per year could do to help alleviate some of the problems/issues we currently face here at home. And if for that reason alone we have every right to turn our back and walk away from the very organization that does envision us...as do the terrorists and terror supporting nations...to be the “big Satan.”

Now as for NATO, what is the “North American Treaty Organization” and our oldest military alliance to date, NATO's relevancy in helping to keep Europe safe cannot be disputed. However, NATO currently has its own share of problems courtesy of what has been referred to as “geopolitical polarization”... ”polarization” to such a degree that in it's helping to divide the loyalties of its member nations it directly affected how NATO is supposed to operate. How so? One example can be seen in how what was originally a two nation conflict turned global...as in Ukraine v. Russia...and how it has driven a wedge between NATO members as to whether or not to ever accept Ukraine into the NATO fold. Ukraine wants desperately to join NATO, yet within the ranks is fear of what Russia...of what Putin...might or might not do if Ukraine did become a NATO member...a member who would be sitting right on Russia's eastern border.

And it's this very fear that helps weaken that which is the very fabric of NATO itself, while at the same time causes us to wonder if fear itself makes for strong and dependable camaraderie. And in my opinion, the way certain nation's leaders are acting I say it does not. And when coupled with what has become our disproportionate monetary and military responsibility, it has left me wondering if NATO and its headaches are worth us being a part of it anymore.

Again, and in my opinion, I say it's not, for like the UN the handwriting is on the wall, as both organizations relish in taking what they can from us while at the same time trying to throw a wrench into not just our alliance with Israel, but in their trying to paint us as being both warmongers and devoid of compassion for those who actually do wish us dead. Convoluted I know, but those with their eyes open would see what I stated as being the absolute truth.

So if we actually did leave the UN what would the outcome be? First, the UN would continue on for a given period of time, but most likely with much less relevancy and influence then they currently have or believe to have. The UN would in losing us as its prime money pit, also see its operational budget taking the biggest hit while terrorist supporting, anti-western“rogue nations,” start moving into the seats of power that we and certain of our allies once held, as those countries aligning with us would probably leave as well. And the “bad actors” who would now be in charge would, in time, collapse what is left of the UN from within...as the UN would have officially become not an instrument of peace nor of one supporting human rights let alone equality.

Simply, it's the U.S. and our fellow like minded nations that help to keep the UN's current radical ideologies, actions, alliances, and far left agendas somewhat in check...but for how long is the question.

And as for the actual physical aspect of our exiting the UN, besides the monies saved now being able to be used here at home, some foolishly do believe that we might actually turn isolationists, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Why so...because I believe we would immediately start forming new alliances that would help to counter or at least combat the negative spheres of influence that would be the hallmark of what would be the UN minus the U.S.

Now as for us leaving NATO, besides the monetary aspects of dollars saved (which is upwards of $500 billion per year) is the fact that while NATO was legally established as per our Constitutional requirements, today's NATO operates under what is called “collective defense principles”...principals” that when signed on April 4,1949 did align with our national security interests, but do not with our “America First” interests today.

Remember, when NATO was founded Europe was in the process of rebuilding after WWII, even as rummages of what became the “Cold War” were already being set into place. The then Soviet Union was looking to dominate Eastern Europe not via the physical aspects of war, but by communist party infiltration of the democracies of Europe. NATO was supposed to be the wall to block this from happening, and while it succeeded for a time, to look at Europe today one can see that said infiltration has already taken place.

Simply, it's time for Europe to start taking care of itself, especially now that Europe has already, to some degree, acquiesced to acts of terrorism becoming it's new norm. And besides, when three key UN and NATO members...as in France, the UK, and Canada...when the same three U.S, allies...actually threaten to side against the U.S. and Israel by rewarding terrorist acts, it really is time for us to exit what have become two no longer functional organizations.

So where do we go from here? Logic dictates that new alliances, new strategic partnerships. and new organizations, must be forged that are more in line with today's geopolitical reality while not conflicting with our “America First” mindset. We need to be onboard with nations that understand who the real enemies are and whose foreign policy initiatives somewhat mirror that of our own. We need to align with those who not only outwardly support Israel but who are not afraid to stand up to those who do not. We need to align with those who also see the U.S. as a valuable and much needed economic partner, but most importantly in today's volatile world we need to forge alliances with nations who do not coddle terrorists or reward their nefarious actions,

And so the “red lines” have been drawn...either one stands with the U.S. or with those who wish us all dead. Case closed.
