Vaccine No...Antidote Yes

Let me start by saying I am not a conspiracy sort... never have been, never will be. I do not believe in random chance, coincidences that are anything but, or that the boogie man and or the devil...whichever persona one chooses to invoke here...lurks in the dark. I am and will remain a person driven by science and mathematical facts...tangibles if you will...with little use for supposition when it's based upon unchecked emotions or religious tenets alone. It's just who I am... accept me as is or damn me to hell, that choice is yours, but know that when one takes emotions, religion, and an overtly media-biased political agenda out of any given mix indisputable facts tend to surface more times than not.

And what now has surfaced as fact is that the Chinese virus we know as COVID-19 appears to have cured all the world's other medical woes...or so it seems...for honestly have you heard anything news wise about the seasonal flu's reemergence, cancer numbers either increasing or decreasing, chicken pox or measles outbreaks which usually tend to occur at this time of the year, or anything medical besides COVID-19...I sure haven't and I bet you, dear reader, haven't as well. It's COVID, COVID, COVID, 24/7 ad-nauseum...a media generated political diversion if ever there was one especially when a diversion was desperately needed to keep our minds off what was sure to be an election the Democrats would lose or if they did win it would be by voter fraud alone.

And also know as fact that while COVID-19 (actually SARS-CoV2) did indeed spread worldwide thanks to the Chinese not giving a damn, here in the U.S., as I write this, roughly 12.4 million out of 331+ million Americans have been diagnosed as having caught China's little gift to us. But...and here's where some might indeed balk...12.4 million Americans infected out of 331+million equates to an epidemic not a pandemic...worldwide maybe when all countries totals are added up but assuredly not here...for the 12.4 million infected equates to only about 3.6% of our county's total population. 

And while COVID-19 is indeed a serious disease, no one is denying or making light of that, its numbers here in the U.S. are nowhere near the scope of the “Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1917-1918” where 500 million people were infected...which then equated to about one-third of the world's population...leaving upwards of 50+ million people dead. And here in the U.S. about 28% of the then population of 105 million became infected, leaving 675 thousand Americans dead. Now compare that 675 thousand number to the 257 thousand now dead from COVID-19, and one can see that COVID-19 in our country is indeed epidemic in nature but has thankfully not reached the level of a true pandemic...although the word “pandemic” has proven to be what keeps the media generated fear ongoing.

So while some will say I'm just playing word semantics, know most assuredly I am not for remember this all-important fact as well...during the Spanish flu pandemic little medical intervention was given as not much was known about viruses back then let alone how to treat them, and yet all on its own the virus ran its course not to return. What we now refer to as “herd immunity” had unknowingly been allowed to build up naturally with the virus then being denied its human host. However, with regards to COVID-19, medical intervention is everywhere from medicines administered to ventilators enabling those seriously affected being able to breathe and survive, yet no so-called "rescue therapies" exists to actually halt the disease once caught. And with COVID-19 not slowing down but actually increasing in both scope and numbers, everyone is looking to the promised and soon to be distributed vaccine as being the solution to a disease either not being allowed to run its natural course...as most viral afflictions usually do...or is there more to COVID-19 than what appears on the surface... as in something that must be hushed up.

Think of it in more simplistic terms...the Spanish flu did disappear on its own while COVID-19 hangs around not just unabated but now is reemerging both here in our country and abroad...and it's doing so seemingly in a much stronger version of itself while pharmaceutical companies are rushing to get vaccines on the market. But are vaccines really the answer as it's a well known fact that viruses tend to morph from year to year thus making last years vaccine almost impotent in nature or worse...allowing one's immune system to actually become “compromised” and thus more susceptible to the newer viral strain than it would normally be without said vaccine. 

And know I am not one of those anti-vaccine folks, actually I am pro-vaccine, for I know vaccines have saved countless millions of lives that otherwise would have been lost, but what I am is leery of is a rushed to market COVID-19 vaccine because I have a sneaky suspicion that what is needed to stop COVID-19 is not a vaccine but an antidote...please let me explain.

First, one must know the difference between a vaccine and an antidote. Simply, a vaccine protects one from catching a given disease by boosting the body’s ability to fight that particular disease...a preventative if you will; while an antidote counteracts (reverses, rescues, and cures) the ill effects of a particular toxin, chemical, drug or poison, but it does so only after the individual has been exposed to such.

Now knowing these key differences along with the fact that up until early September we all saw the Chinese virus starting to wane here in the U.S., it seemed quite odd that as we got closer to the election the number of folks infected started to not only dramatically increase, but we saw the media rushing to report that said increase was due to a combination of what they called “rapidly encroaching colder weather,” and that people were no longer wearing masks or “social distancing” as they should...something I was not buying into. And this left me facing the possibility that with said sudden escalation not being the norm with what are other naturally occurring corona viruses...especially a virus that was now responding to medical intervention... that behind the scenes the virus had somehow been “manipulated” into becoming a politically generated bio-weapon of sorts...a political "Hail Mary" pass if you will to use as a last ditch attempt against President Trump...the man who if not for the virus's presence would have blown the election away.

And I also am beginning to believe that said (if it occurred) “bio-manipulation” allowed COVID-19 to be released either through an aerosol delivery system or in an injectable form of sorts, both that could be targeted towards a given population where and when specifically needed...in this case the key battleground states...states who indeed saw increases in COVID-19 cases. And it could be delivered either through the water supply, the air we breathe, or even injected into the foods we buy at the grocery store. And for someone who is assuredly not of the conspiracy mindset, let me present to you some tangible facts to back up what is really but my own educated supposition.

So let's briefly start with the basic concept of bio-weaponry itself...commonly referred to as germ warfare...as it relates to COVID-19. Simply, bio-weapons encompass the deliberate releasing of an agent on an unsuspecting population...in this case a corona virus...that causes a specific illness...as in COVID-19. And while U.S. public health officials already have in affect a system that prioritizes the risk factor of already known biological agents (smallpox for example) as it relates to our national security...especially in regards to agents (like COVID-19) that can be transmitted from person to person and/or through the air...it's important to remember that most pathogens already do exist in nature but that only some are of the kind whose delivery (and I'm not talking the likes of Bashar al-Assad's nerve gas bombs) can be “manipulated” or “engineered” especially into aerosol form.

Take for example the very real possibility of someone weaponizing the regular run-of-the-mill influenza virus via aerosol transmission...transmission delivery with something as simple as a fogger or a spray bottle... which in the flu's case would require up to 27,000 times fewer virions to induce equivalent disease than would COVID-19. However, while the influenza virus might be more readily accessible and be more open to being both genetically engineered and then released via said aerosol transmission, know that doing so with COVID-19 is possible just with a bit more “manipulation” required.

And while “manipulating” any virus would leave a “signature,” said “signature” in all likelihood would only be looked for if deliberateness in spread was suspected...with that thought so out of our normal whelm of thinking what with us (most of us anyway) being civilized sorts...meaning something staring us in the face could easily be overlooked. And that is what I think happened with COVID-19's reemergence especially in regards to its timing and increasing veracity right before the election, which would explain the Democrats overt push for mail-in ballots, extending the days of said ballots arrival, and insisting all be counted whether verified or not.

So while now you're probably wondering just a how a virus can be “manipulated,” first one must understand that biological weapons are not to be confused with biological agents (like viruses), with agents being but one part of a biological weapon, nor can all biological agents be turned into a weapon. A biological weapon of course needs a biological agent (as in a viral or bacterial pathogen or toxin), but it also needs some sort of “additive” to support both the stability and the dissemination of said agent, as well as needing a reliable delivery system. However, contrary to the media musings, know that COVID-19 as a viral agent can indeed be weaponized because the original theory regarding its spread...as in from person-to-person alone...has now been replaced by the reality that this virus is indeed airborne as well, and if something is airborne it can be “engineered” to be delivered via a man-made aerosol delivery system if the need to do so arose.

And I believe the Democrats all-encompassing need for Joe Biden to win (he was to be Obama's defacto third term in office after all) was reason enough for certain dirty, bought-and-paid-for sorts to do the unspeakable what with their attitude being “collateral damage be damned,” with said “collateral damage” being “the health, safety and welfare” of “We the People,” of course.

Think I'm wrong, then how about a brief science and medical lesson (as I understand it). And here let's start with the fact that some do claim that mechanically aerosolizing a virus...a virus that is already known to be airborne...and having it disperse accurately while at the same time maintaining its virulence is not that easily done. However, the truth is that aerosolizing...or even creating a “misting effect” which needs no propellant properties (as in pressurized gas) to be delivered... simply involves the act of converting said viral agent into particles small enough and light enough to then be manually, mechanically or even robotically placed into a device with its contents then being released into the air or sprayed on or injected into a given city's water or foodstuffs supply.

And creating such a delivery system wouldn't be all that hard to do especially knowing, as fact, that like with other SARS-CoV2 viruses, COVID-19...a virus now easily secured for both studies and possible nefarious doings and also being a virus which can be “manufactured” if need be...is only 0.1 microns in diameter, with over 100 million of them fitting onto the head of a pin. Basically, this means that there is more than enough room, even if a propellant were needed, for COVID-19 to “fit” into either an aerosol or misting device and then be delivered and remaining airborne for indefinite periods of time...remaining airborne with no one the wiser, as particles this small would surely remain invisible to the naked eye.

And knowing the above, here is why I believe an antidote...a "rescue therapy"...and not a vaccine is needed. First, I believe we're at a point where it's already too late for a vaccine to be fully effective as COVID-19 is now seemingly waxing and waning at will. This alone makes a vaccine a bit of a gamble for in order to get the true benefits of a vaccine we must get ahead of the virus worldwide to some degree not take one step forward and two steps back as is happening now. Second, it's my opinion that the COVID-19 reemergence we're now experiencing here in our country is not exactly the same virus we were seeing back in the spring. Remember, viruses can and do morph from year to year, that's why every year's flu shot is geared towards combating a specific flu strain, meaning last year's successful flu shot might not be successful against this year's flu...and the same goes for COVID-19. Get the newly emerging vaccine geared to this year's virus and by next year it might be totally useless.

However, while an antidote geared towards a specific pathogen might seem an odd answer to COVID-19, the reason an antidote, being a "rescue therapy," makes more sense to me is because, as I stated previously, an antidote “cures” while a vaccine might or might not protect an individual or any must needed number of individuals from contracted the targeted disease. And besides, a vaccine against this particular covid virus not being long-term tested might not work as initially touted...while a cure via an antidote takes the guess work completely out of the mix. And with us “supposedly” having done away with our bio-weapons program back in 1969...as “supposedly” did Russia and China albeit a bit later...the fact remains that under the radar bio-weapons research is still going on today. And this means that the nasty little virus from China could have been “altered” during the past few months... signed, sealed, and redelivered if you will...to return not only with a vengeance but with a political agenda orchestrated by those craving political power, And so what some once called “conspiracy” might not be “conspiracy” at all.

And as for mere coincidence in regards to the timing of the virus' strong reemergence, when dealing with those desperate for power, when dealing with those who will do or say anything to attain and then keep said power, the word “coincidence” becomes not part of the thinking man's vernacular.

Just something we all need to consider...case closed.

Tlaib Promotes Phrase That's 'Code for Eradicating the State of Israel'

Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib raised eyebrows Sunday after she retweeted a message with a phrase that’s associated with calling for an end to the state of Israel. 

“Rashida Tlaib RT's out the same message that got Marc Lamont Hill canned from CNN,” StopAntisemitism.org tweeted. “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free - code for eradicating the State of Israel and its millions of Jews. Reminder - this is a sitting U.S. Congresswoman.”

According to the Jewish Journal, the phrase “From the River to the Sea” has always been associated with annihilation of the state of Israel, not liberation.

"The first recorded use of the phrase ... 'free Palestine from the river to the sea' was used by the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) when it was formed in 1964," the article states, responding to the controversy around Hill's use of the phrase in 2018. "Notably, back in 1964, much of the land west of the Jordan River was controlled by an Egyptian dictator in Cairo and a sham Jordanian Hashemite King in Amman.  But the PLO’s 1964 Charter specifically excluded both the 'West Bank' and Gaza from the territories it sought to 'liberate.'"

NYT Endorsed Leading Cyber-Crimes Expert Concludes Election 2020 Data Were Altered in Battleground States

Dr. Navid Keshavarz-Nia, an experienced cybercrimes investigator and digital security executive, who has worked with the CIA, NSA, FBI, and U.S. military counterintelligence, as well as corporate financial giants like Deutsche Bank and Stripe.

He said “I conclude with high confidence that the election 2020 data were altered in all battleground states resulting in a hundreds of thousands of votes that were cast for President Trump to be transferred to Vice President Biden.”

The New York Times published a glowing report on Dr. Navid Keshavarz-Nia way back in September writing, “Navid Keshavarz-Nia, those who worked with him said, ‘was always the smartest person in the room.’”In his statement to Sidney Powell, Dr. Keshavarz-Nia concludes that the election data IN ALL BATTLEGROUND STATES were altered resulting in hundreds of thousands of Trump votes transferred to Joe Biden! Did You Notice Anything Ironic About That Tweet From John Brennan on Iran?

It's a great day. The architect of Iran’s nuclear weapons program Mohsen Fahrizade is dead. He got shot up. The world is better off. Yet, the only people who appear to be upset are the Obama folks. Take a look at what former CIA Director John Brennan tweeted.

“This was a criminal act & highly reckless. It risks lethal retaliation & a new round of regional conflict. Iranian leaders would be wise to wait for the return of responsible American leadership on the global stage & to resist the urge to respond against perceived culprits.”

Uh, isn’t this a Logan Act violation? I mean, if we’re going by Michael Flynn rules, it is, and he should be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. That’s the irony about this tweet. It’s exactly what Flynn pretty much did which landed him in front of the crosshairs of the Obama administration in its final days. The man President Trump selected as his national security adviser merely had run-of-the-mill conversations with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak after the 2016 election.

Look, it hasn’t been a pleasant experience watching the Trump legal team and its allies lead the offensive regarding the avalanche of allegations concerning voter irregularities and fraud. You’re never going to convince me Joe Biden won fair and square, but the effort to prove voter fraud has been a mess. It’s a high bar to convince a judge that ballots should be tossed. It should be—and for the most part, the Trump team has not been successful…until now. This week, the Trump campaign scored a huge win in Nevada where they will be allowed to present evidence of fraud and make their case conceding shoddy ballots. Will it be enough? Will it meet the threshold? We shall see. 

Cortney wrote about Sidney Powell’s solo legal effort. She’s been pretty much cast out of the Trump orbit after making some pretty serious allegations, but then not really backing it up with solid evidence. Tucker Carlson and Rush Limbaugh have called her out on it, noting that you cannot hold a press conference, say you have bombshell evidence, and then never present it. It looks bad. Michigan county board supports impeachment of Democratic Gov. Whitmer

GOP speaker of the House tells party to stand down, counties push ahead

A county in northern Michigan threw its support behind a resolution put forward by three Republican members of Michigan’s House of Representatives calling for the impeachment of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer last week.

Despite Michigan Speaker of the House Rep. Lee Chatfield, a fellow GOP member condemning the resolution, the Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners voted four to two in favor of supporting the effort Friday, reported Michigan Live. 

Whitmer has come under fire for her restrictions on businesses during the coronavirus pandemic, further angering Republicans after she and the Department of Health and Human Services issued a three-week order limiting indoor social gatherings last week.

State Legislators In Three Swing States Were Caught Off Guard By the Trump Camp's Latest Announcement

The Trump campaign on Tuesday announced that legislatures in key swing states – Pennsylvania, Arizona and Michigan – would hold hearings on alleged voter fraud. Legislators in those states, however, say nothing is scheduled to take place.

"It's in everyone's interest to have a full vetting of election irregularities and fraud," Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor and current personal attorney to President Donald Trump, said in a statement Tuesday. "And the only way to do this is with public hearings, complete with witnesses, videos, pictures and other evidence of illegalities from the November 3rd election."

"There were serious irregularities, we have proof of fraud in a number of states, and it is important for all Americans to have faith in our electoral process," Trump campaign senior legal adviser Jenna Ellis said in a statement. "All we have wanted from the outset is to count every legal vote and discount every illegal vote."

When the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic first began, we were told to stay home, wear a mask and practice social distancing. The goal was to slow the spread of the virus so our medical teams and hospitals could catch up. Without slowing the spread, resources would be spread thin, and millions of people would have died. The country band together, and everyone did their part in this massive ever-changing puzzle.

Fast forward eight months later, and Americans across the country have had enough. The mask mandates, lockdowns and curfews have gone on for far too long. Being told that Thanksgiving was effectively canceled was the straw that broke the camel's back. And it's why people began protesting.

Oregon Governor Wants Residents to Report Neighbors Who Violate Lockdown Orders

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown ordered residents of her state to begin another strict lockdown last week over concerns about rising cases of the Wuhan coronavirus.

“The situation is dire, and requires an urgent, immediate, and decisive response to quell the current surge in COVID-19 infections, before it is too late,” the order reads.

The new order puts a six-person cap on in-home gatherings and individuals can be from no more than two households. These rules apply to Thanksgiving, too.

“Look, this is no different than what happens if there’s a party down the street and it’s keeping everyone awake. What do neighbors do? They call law enforcement because it’s too noisy,” the Democrat told KGW-TV on Friday. “This is just like that. It’s like a violation of a noise ordinance.”

LOOK Who Owns Dominion Voting Systems: Politically Motivated PRIVATE Equity NY Hedge Fund

Staple Street owns Dominion and is a relatively small private equity company, who has not raised capital or  had substantial new investors since 2014/2015 of about $200 million. But now after a rushed Delaware Corp., filing October 5, 2020, Staple notified U.S. SEC 10/08/20 they’re expecting $800 million minimum. Yet Staple Street’s website is suddenly shut down, except for the base page.

Staple Street Capital, which acquired Dominion Voting,  has shutdown most of their site. Oddly suspicious is the important portfolio holdings description page which was present a week ago. October 08, 2020 Staple Street capital has filed with the United States SEC, Securities and Exchange Commission, for a capital raise of $800 million – not a good time to shut down a Private Equity investment firm’s website.

On Thanksgiving

The Thanksgiving story, as we know it, began on July 22, 1620, when a group of English colonists known as Pilgrims gathered in the Dutch port city of Delfshaven to board the pinnace ship Speedwell. Sailing from there to the British city of Southampton, these colonists met up with others who had already boarded the Mayflower, the Speedwell's sister ship if you will. Departing Southampton on August 6th, the passengers and crew were hoping for a swift and uneventful ocean crossing to Virginia.

Sadly, that didn't happen as the Speedwell leaked not once but twice, forcing both ships to turn back. And the Pilgrims who didn't call it quits while docked in the port city of Plymouth waited anxiously while the Speedwell's remaining passengers and cargo were transferred to the Mayflower, an already seriously overcrowded ship...a ship which then became their home for almost a month.

Finally setting sail for America from Plymouth on September 6, 1620, the now 102 passengers along with a crew of 37 men headed by Master Christopher Jones were packed tight in the small ship...a ship that measured about 100 feet long from stem to stern and just 24 feet wide. And while the crew was housed in small cabins above the main deck, the Pilgrims and the others onboard...those the Pilgrims called “strangers”... were forced to live in suffocating, windowless spaces no more than five feet in height... spaces that existed between the main deck and the cargo hold. And while the first month of sailing saw mostly calm seas, by early October an “unrelenting series of North Atlantic storms” tossed and battered the Mayflower for weeks on end forcing the crew to lower the sails and let the Mayflower “bob helplessly in the towering waves.”

And how do we know this? In the only surviving journal, a journal titled “Of Plimoth Plantation,” authored by Mayflower passenger and Mayflower Compact signer William Bradford (who years later became the 30-year governor of the Massachusetts Plymouth Colony) was also this vivid description of the actual 66-day crossing. Writing that, “They were encountered many times with cross winds and met with many fierce storms with which the ship was shroudly shaken, and her upper works made very leaky, and one of the beams in the midships was bowed and cracked, which put them in some fear that the ship could not be able to perform the voyage,” allowed us to visualize just how perilous the Pilgrims journey was.

And if this wasn't bad enough seasickness and other assorted ills permeated the entire voyage, yet surprisingly only one of the Pilgrims aboard died during the actual crossing itself. However, 52 of the 102 passengers aboard (consisting almost equally of both Pilgrims and “strangers”) died during their first winter in Plymouth.

But now it's time we separate fact from fiction, first in regards to exactly why the Pilgrims came to the New World and second, to understand that Thanksgiving as we celebrate it today is really a blend of the Pilgrims New England custom of “rejoicing after a successful harvest”...something actually based upon ancient English harvest festivals...and the Puritans tenets of Thanksgiving being but a solemn religious observance combining prayer and to a much lesser degree feasting.

And here it must now be known that for those we call Pilgrims, contrary to popular belief, religious freedom was not...I repeat not...the deciding factor as to why they came to the New World for religious freedom was something the Pilgrims enjoyed for more than a decade before ever setting sail on the Mayflower. How so? While we known that in the 1500s England broke away from the Roman Catholic Church and created a new church called the “Church of England,” what many don't know is that those we refer to as Pilgrims actually were “separatists” (as in those who rejecting the new church). And it was a small group of “separatists” who left England in 1608 and found both sanctuary and religious freedom in the Dutch city of Leiden, a city that was far more religiously diverse and tolerant than were those in England...a city where according to “separatist” member Edward Winslow, they enjoyed “much peace and liberty.” So logic alone should then dictate that religious tolerance and freedom was not the driving force that drove the Pilgrims to risk their lives first in a dangerous ocean crossing and then in the wilds of an untamed land.

So what did drive the Pilgrims to America? Simply, poverty did, for the reality is that the Pilgrims were actually what we now call “economic migrants.”

Possessing religious freedom in Leiden was surely a good thing but living in overt poverty was quite another. For the Pilgrims, who were farmers in Northern England, now being but low paid laborers who worked long hours weaving, spinning, and making cloth, was what their fellow “separatists” still home in England were not willing to do. In fact, in his “Of Plimoth Plantation” journal, William Bradford also wrote that instead of joining their fellow “separatists” in Leiden, “Some preferred and chose the prisons in England rather than this liberty in Holland with these afflictions,” meaning living both in poverty and what some Pilgrim elders considered to be moral debauchery.

And as time went on poverty became more widespread for not only did the all-important wool market collapse, but the Thirty Years War was looming large. Couple that with Pilgrim elders fearing that Dutch society was “corrupting their children,” which again can be witnessed in the words of William Bradford who wrote in his journal that their children were “drawn away by evil examples into extravagant and dangerous courses,” as well as losing their English identity.

Now being unable to return to their beloved England for fear of arrest, the Pilgrims instead looked to the economic opportunities the New World offered them. And with English merchants already having financed numerous colonial settlements, the Pilgrims embraced not only the economic opportunities afforded them but the ability to continue to freely worship and to preserve their and their children's English identity.

And after receiving a patent from the Virginia Company to establish a settlement within its jurisdiction, the Merchant Adventurers...a group of 70 London businessmen...supplied the capital needed to finance the Pilgrims quest and did so by purchasing shares in a joint-stock company. The backers paid for the Mayflower, its crew, and a year’s worth of supplies, and in return the Pilgrims were required to work for the company during their first seven years in America. But even here the Pilgrims saw economic pluses because every colonist over the age of 16 would be receiving one stock share for their having emigrating to America and working the land...land which would then be theirs along with any future profits garnered after their seven-year contract was up.

Life in the new Plymouth colony was hard and it took years for the Pilgrim's investors to garner any profits at all, while it took the Pilgrims until 1648 to pay off their debt. And besides, by the early 1630s the Puritans had established the more successful Massachusetts Bay Colony, where by 1691 the two colonies, together with other lesser colonies, merged to form the Province of Massachusetts Bay. So why even mention the Puritans then? Because it was the Puritans not the Pilgrims who came to America solely for religious reasons, and it's the Puritans religious tenets that Thanksgiving really emanates from.

How so? First, it's important to know that while the Puritans believed they could still live the “congregational way” within their local churches as per their own ecclesiastical tenets and do so without having to completely cut ties with the newly established Church of England, the Pilgrims believed that any membership in or dealings with said church violated biblical precepts for true Christians, thus causing a permanent riff between the two groups. And second, while the economics of poverty was the driving force that drove the Pilgrims to America, the Puritans, who were not poverty stricken, saw investment opportunities in owning land in America and believed that by being far away from England they could bring people to what they considered to be the “ideal English church.”

Simply, the Puritans were religious missionaries with conversion on their minds who came to the New World “with money and resources and divinely ordained arrogance,” while the Pilgrims were more accepting of religious tolerance thanks to their time spent in Leiden. To the Puritans their and their church's way alone was the only right way to salvation, and so it remained.

So how do these religious differences between the Pilgrims and the Puritans affect the story of Thanksgiving? First, know that in no way do these differences negate the basic premise of the first Thanksgiving being a “Harvest Feast.” Said feast did indeed take place but not in November as Thanksgiving is celebrated today but in October, with it lasting three days and being attended by 90 Wampanoac Indians and 53 Pilgrims. But still some minor revisions to the story are needed. Yes, the Wampanoac, who for generations already had harvests feasts of their own, “broke bread” with the Pilgrims, but little known is that this particular feast had as much to do with a peace treaty being made between two nations...England and the Wampanoac nation...as it did with the harvest success of the now one-year old Plymouth colony itself.

How so? This can be explained in a letter written and sent to friend in England by aforementioned Mayflower passenger and feast attendee “E.W.” (Edward Winslow) who wrote: “And God be praised, we had a good increase...Our harvest being gotten in, our governor (William Bradford) sent four men on fowling that so we might after a special manner rejoice together...” and that, “These things I thought good to let you understand...that you might on our behalf give God thanks who hath dealt so favourably with us.”

This letter alone explains the reality and truths of the first Thanksgiving as it being but a simple harvest feast and the welcoming of peace between two peoples, which a later day poem and politics helped to morph into what has become a truly American holiday.

And that poem was Longfellow’s “The Courtship of Miles Standish” written in 1848, along with the 1855 recovery of Governor William Bradford’s lost journal “Of Plimoth Plantation,” both of which peeked public interest in the Pilgrims and the Wampanoac Indians...peeked that interest to where Thanksgiving as we know today became nationally important. And while the Continental Congress had proclaimed the first national Thanksgiving in 1777, it was not the joyous food-laden Thanksgiving we know today, but an austere and somewhat somber event where religious leaders recommended that “servile labor and such recreations (although at other times innocent) may be unbecoming the purpose of this appointment [and should] be omitted on so solemn an occasion.” 

And those words were way more aligned with Puritan thinking than they were with thoughts of the Pilgrims. Remember, Puritan settlers in New England originally celebrated days of "thanksgiving" in prayer with food and feast playing little part, and yet they did give thanks to the “good Lord” for their successes in the New World.

Remember, it was not until the middle of the Civil War that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a National Thanksgiving Day, to be celebrated on the last Thursday of November 1863...which happened to be November 26th just as it is this year. Urged to do so by a series of editorials written by Sarah Josepha Hale, what Lincoln did with his proclamation was try to bring both families and a divided nation together, and he hoped to do so with something as simple as a meal shared and a joint prayer of thanks. Then in 1939, President Franklin D. Roosevelt moved the date up a week, setting Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November solely to lengthen the Christmas shopping season. But in 1941, Congress made it an official holiday, doing away with the what had been a required annual presidential decree.

And so this year as we celebrate Thanksgiving...albeit a covid-dictated one...we must not lose sight of the true meaning of Thanksgiving where we, as did the Pilgrims and Puritans, gather together with family and friends to share not just in nature's bounty but to thank God the Father for all He has bestowed upon us and upon our great nation. 

And to that I say, amen.
