Vice President Harris’ first trip to the border: What you need to know
Kamala Harris finally makes first trip to border, will visit CBP facility in El Paso

Vice President Kamala Harris is traveling to El Paso, Texas Friday for her first visit to the U.S.-Mexico border following mounting criticism from Republicans for not going sooner after being tapped by President Biden to oversee the administration’s efforts in tackling "root causes" of the border crisis.

Upon arrival in Texas, Harris will participate in a walking tour of the El Paso Central Processing Center, a Customs and Border Patrol facility. Following the tour, Harris is expected to receive an "operational briefing," which is set to cover the operations of the facility, the latest advancements in technology, and the facility’s efforts and the administration’s efforts to combat transnational crime.

Harris departed Joint Base Andrews early Friday and is traveling with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin, and Democratic Rep. Veronica Escobar from Texas.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency in Miami-Dade county on Thursday over the partial collapse of a residential building in Surfside, Florida.

According to The Miami Herald, the move will coordinate assistance between the local and federal government.

“I mean it is really, really traumatic to see the collapse of a massive structure like that,” he added.

One person has been declared dead and at least 99 are unaccounted for as search and rescue missions continue. Read entire article here: https://townhall.com/tipsheet/leahbarkoukis/2021/06/25/desantis-declares-state-of-emergency-n2591575
