Scalise Out of ICU; Still in Serious ConditionSome positive news on Wednesday regarding House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA): he has been transferred out of the intensive care unit at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. A week ago, he was moved back into the unit after coming down with an infection.

Scalise remains in serious condition, however, despite not being in the ICU. He has been listed in serious condition since he was moved back to the ICU last week, having previously been in "fair" condition.

On June 14, Scalise and several others were shot while at baseball practice for the upcoming Congressional Baseball Game. The shooter, James T. Hodgkinson, was a former Bernie Sanders campaign volunteer and had a history of supporting progressive causes. He was shot and killed by a member of Scalise's security detail at the field. Scalise, the most badly wounded, was shot in the hip and suffered injuries to his internal organs and has undergone multiple surgeries. He is the only person injured in the shooting who remains in the hospital.

In response to the shooting, the Congressional Baseball Game had record ticket sales and raised over a million dollars for charity. In a show of bipartisanship, the Democrats invited the Republicans to dinner before the game, and both teams wore Louisiana State University apparel in honor of Scalise's alma mater. Both teams came together to pray for the injured prior to the game.
Florida: Fired Muslim Sheriff’s Deputy fabricated claims that Deputies harassed him for being Muslim
By Robert Spencer / Jihad Watch
“Levitt argued Albakri was the one making jokes and said he didn’t complain about feeling uncomfortable until two years later.” The harassment claim came two months before “deputies arrested him and accused him of staging a burglary the previous year to collect renter’s insurance.” Maybe he saw that arrest coming, and thought the best defense […]

Trump Jr. on Lawyer Meeting: 'Would Have Done Things Differently'

By Cathy Burke / NEWSMAX

Under fire for a June 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer offering damaging information on Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump Jr. on Tuesday conceded that in "retrospect, I probably would have done things a little differently."

In his first televised comments since publishing emails about setting up the controversial meeting, the eldest son of President Donald Trump defended his actions to Fox News' Sean Hannity, saying he wanted to hear what the lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, who reportedly had connections to Moscow, had to say.
"Maybe this is something," Trump Jr. said of his thinking leading up to the meeting. "I should hear them out. ... This was again just basic information that was going to be possibly there. ... I wanted to hear them out and play it out."

The meeting was also attended by Paul Manafort, Trump’s then-campaign manager, and Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser.

"For me this was opposition research," Trump Jr. said. "They had something, you know, maybe concrete evidence to all the stories I’d been hearing about … so I think I wanted to hear it out. But really it went nowhere and it was apparent that wasn’t what the meeting was about."

U.S. Commander Warns of Rejoicing in Terror War Wins: ‘ISIS 2.0’ Lurks

Iraq forcesIraqis may be cheering the success of government forces to oust ISIS from Mosul, but Lt. Gen. Stephen Townsend, the top U.S. commander in the country, warned against too much optimism.
He said that much work is needed to ensure “ISIS 2.0” doesn’t weasel its way back into Mosul.
And top of the list is for the Shia-controled government to reach out to the country’s Sunni population and make them feel welcome.

From the Express:

Townsend has warned the Government will have to take further steps to reach out to the Sunni population of the country to stop regional tensions causing further conflict.

He said: “If we’re to keep… ISIS 2.0 from emerging, the Iraqi government is going to have to do something pretty significantly different.

“They’re going to have to reach out and reconcile with the Sunni population, and make them feel like their government in Baghdad represents them.”
