Maryland town suspends its entire police force, leaving residents to wonder why

A largely unexplained decision by a Maryland town to suspend its entire police force has left residents shocked, skeptical and on edge.

The small town of Ridgely, located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, announced it was suspending officers of the Ridgely Police Department, leaving other public safety agencies to fill the void. But the town’s residents remain entirely in the dark about why it was being shut down.

"What’s very concerning is that they didn’t communicate with us in an honest and open way," said Laura Cline, a longtime Ridgely resident. "Treat us with respect. We’re adults — thinking, rational adults who deserve the truth."

Holly Justice, an esthetician who owns a spa in Ridgely, added: "We were blindsided. It makes you question the integrity of people who are supposed to protect and serve."

After an Illinois judge ruled that illegal immigrants living in the United States have Second Amendment rights, critics are pushing back against allowing non-citizens to bear arms. 

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said that the rule helps the Left blur the lines of citizenship. 

"[Democrats have been] "trying to… blur the line between citizenship and everything else — people that are here illegally," Rubio stated during an interview with Fox News Sean Hannity. 

"[Y]ou almost wonder if it's not being done to sort of mock both gun laws and also the whole understanding of the value of being a citizen of the United States of America," Rubio said. "There has to be a distinction between citizenship and non-citizenship — between being legally here and not legally here."
