O.J. Simpson freed from Nevada prison after 9 years

Just as he eluded tacklers during his
NFL days, O.J. Simpson avoided a media frenzy by being freed from a
Nevada prison during the early hours of Sunday morning.
Simpson was released after serving
nine years for a botched 2007 hotel-room heist in Las Vegas that brought
the conviction and prison time he avoided in the killings of his wife
and her friend after his 1995 acquittal.
Nevada state prisons spokeswoman Brooke Keast told the
Associated Press that Simpson was released at 12:08 a.m. PDT from
Lovelock Correctional Center in northern Nevada. She said she did not
know who met Simpson upon his release and didn't know where Simpson was
immediately headed.
"I don't have any information on where he's going," said Keast, adding she had no indication where he was immediately Sunday.
Keast said, the dead-of-night release from the prison
located about 90 miles (145 kilometers) east of Reno, Nevada, was
conducted to avoid media attention.
The Washington Examiner reported
earlier today that the mayor of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico criticized
neighboring San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz for "playing politics"
after Hurricane Maria. He also praised President Trump for his hurricane
recovery coordination efforts.

says that Mayor Yulin Cruz has been a no show at coordination meetings
between FEMA, U.S. military officials, and Puerto Rican leaders.
"I've seen other mayors participating. She's not," said Perez Otero.
Perez
Otero says he has been in constant contact with U.S. officials and is
confident that they will provide the very best recovery efforts they
can.
"We are receiving a lot of help from FEMA and
the Red Cross...there is lots of help coming to us," adding, "they
won't leave until Puerto Rico is good."
Earlier today several conservative commentators, myself included, somewhat wrongly criticized President Trump for his Saturday morning tweets attacking the San Juan Mayor.
Obama’s Deep State: 78 Appointees Burrowed Into Government
A new report from the Government Accountability Office – a watchdog
organization meant to keep tabs on the federal government – shows that
78 of President Obama’s political appointees have burrowed their way
into the deep state, where they now hold career positions in the Trump
administration. According to the report, which was obtained by The
Washington Times this week, these appointees included seven who failed
to obtain permission for the job switch from the Office of Personnel
Management. Subsequently, they were either denied jobs or left on their
own accord.
Nonetheless, that still leaves 71 of Obama’s political appointees
working in the Trump administration. And how many of them do you reckon
support Trump’s agenda on environmental regulations, foreign policy,
illegal immigration, spending cuts, and so forth? We’d guess…none. And
sure, you can do your job to the best of your ability even when you
don’t align politically with the over-arching motivations of the
administration, but is that what these people are doing? Or are they
leaking to the press, thwarting the goals of the Trump agenda, and
intentionally sabotaging the will of the people?
There’s nothing illegal about a president allowing his political
appointees to transfer over into career positions, of course, but we
have to look at this in its proper light. No administration in history
has been besieged by as much outright mutiny as this one. Leaks are
constantly flowing to the press, agency heads are openly discussing the
ideological differences within the departments, and even the president
has made mention of a federal government conspiracy against him. And
frankly, you don’t need that many people “off the script” to cause a
hell of a lot of trouble. 71 people across a number of different
agencies? That’s MORE than enough, and that probably only scratches the
surface when it comes to Obama loyalists.

Finally, yes finally, a government of a major world power no
less, recognizes that the holy war being waged by Muslims in China and
all around the world is rooted in Islamic text and teachings. The Quran
incites to jihad terror much the way Mein Kampf incites to hate
and murder. But the Nazis banned books, and we know how that worked
out. The antidote to bad speech is more speech.
The history of Chinese oppression is bloody and brutal. And while they are on the right track, I worry about their methods.

Chinese Police Order Xinjiang’s Muslims to Hand in All Copies of The Quran
AFP: Chinese authorities in the northwestern region of Xinjiang have
ordered ethnic minority Muslim families to hand in religious items
including prayer mats and copies of the Quran to the authorities, RFA
has learned.
Officials across Xinjiang have been warning neighborhoods and mosques
that ethnic minority Uyghur, Kazakh and Kyrgyz Muslims must hand in the
items or face harsh punishment if they are found later, sources in the
region said.
“Officials at village, township and county level are confiscating all
Qurans and the special mats used for namaaz [prayer],” a Kazakh source
in Altay prefecture, near the border with Kazakhstan told RFA on
Wednesday.
“Pretty much every household has a Quran, and prayer mats,” he said.
