It is just about impossible to keep up with all of the Obama administration scandals, but the corruption of the Internal Revenue Service ranks near the top. Unfortunately, it has gone hand in hand with Barack Obama and Eric Holder’s corruption of the Department of Justice. The perversion of law enforcement agencies for political ends is starkly revealed by the fact that in 2010, as part of its effort to stem the Tea Party movement, the IRS gave the FBI disks containing more than 1.1 million pages of documents on Section 501 non-profits, so that the FBI could selectively prosecute conservative groups and donors.

The facts, as we know them so far, were laid out yesterday in a letter from Congressmen Darrell Issa and Jim Jordan to John Koskinen, Commissioner of the IRS. The letter includes a series of emails that the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has finally obtained, after more than a year of stonewalling by the Obama administration. The IRS originally told the House committee–falsely–that the disks contained only publicly available filings by the non-profit organizations. But the IRS later admitted that it had illegally transferred confidential taxpayer information to the FBI.

The IRS’s purpose was explicitly political. Sarah Ingram, Lois Lerner’s predecessor in charge of tax-exempt organizations at the IRS, wrote in a September 21, 2010 email, the subject of which was a favorable front-page story in the New York Times:

The reference is to Diane Rehm, an NPR radio host. So the IRS, at its highest levels, was trying to advance the Democratic Party’s “secret donor” theme on the eve of the 2010 election, and breaking the law to do so. Could someone maybe go to jail one of these days?

Here is the Issa/Jordan letter in its entirety. You really should read it; hardly anyone will.

It tells a sad story of government corruption and stonewalling, the hallmarks of the Obama administration. It also reminds us that there are Republicans in Washington who are doing great work, trying to sustain the rule of law under very difficult conditions. One more thought about that in a moment; first, the letter:

A final thought: I have spent my entire adult life in the world of litigation. It is not unusual for parties to lawsuits to stonewall, to obfuscate, sometimes even to lie, as the Obama administration did here, in order to prevent damaging facts from coming to light.

Yet litigants rarely succeed in their stonewalling in the way the Obama administration has successfully stonewalled, time after time.

Why is that? The answer is simple: in a lawsuit, the discovery process is supervised by a judge or (in the federal system) a magistrate. A party that refuses to answer questions or produce documents on the basis of flimsy objections, as happened here–the objections quoted in the Issa/Jordan letter are laughable–will be ordered by the court to comply, and may have sanctions assessed against it. The problem that Congressional investigators face is that there is no judge. Legal process can be invoked, of course, as a last resort, as happens on rare occasions. But that takes years; no judge sits ready to rule on frivolous positions like those so often taken by the Obama administration. In the political realm, the only real judge is the electorate. So far, at least, that is not a reassuring thought.

US spy agencies heard Benghazi attackers using State Department cell phones to call terrorist leaders

They overheard them contacting more senior terrorist leaders to report on the success of the operation. Eric Stahl, who recently retired as a major in the U.S. Air Force said members of a CIA-trained Global Response Staff who raced to the scene of the attacks were confused by the administration’s repeated implication of the video as a trigger for the attacks, because “they knew during the attack…who was doing the attacking.”

FOX News  Major Stahl was never interviewed by the Accountability Review Board, the investigative panel convened, pursuant to statute, by then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as the official body reviewing all the circumstances surrounding the attacks and their aftermath.

Stahl also contended that given his crew’s alert status and location, they could have reached Benghazi in time to have played a role in rescuing the victims of the assault, and ferrying them to safety in Germany, had they been asked to do so. “We were there basically to pick up priority missions, last-minute missions that needed to be accomplished.”

Obama Doubles Down On Confiscation By Praising Australia’s Gun Laws

Not wishing to let a tragedy go to waste, President Barack Obama on Tuesday reacted to recent highly publicized shootings in California, Nevada and Oregon by telling an Internet audience the United States should emulate Australia’s infamous “assault weapons” ban.

Responding to a gun control question from a student at the University of California at Santa Barbara — the same school attended by former student Elliott Rodger before he gunned down six people and then killed himself last month — Obama told a Tumblr blog audience that a lack of Congressional action on gun control has been one of the biggest disappointments of his Administration.

“I’ve got two and a half years left,” began Obama. “My biggest frustration so far is the fact that this society has not been willing to take some basic steps to keep guns out of the hands of… of people who… can, can do just unbelievable damage.

“We’re the only developed country on Earth where this happens. It happens now once a week. And it’s a one-day story. There’s no place else like this.”

Then Obama brought up Australia, which instituted gun restrictions, a national registry and gun buy-back program following a 1996 massacre in Tasmania that claimed the lives of 35 people.

“Couple of decades ago, Australia had a mass shooting, similar to Columbine or Newtown. And Australia just said, ‘well, that’s it; we’re not doing — we’re not seeing that again,’ and basically imposed very severe, tough gun laws, and they haven’t had a mass shooting since,” said Obama. “I mean, our levels of gun violence are off the charts. There’s no advanced, developed country on Earth that would put up with this.

“Now, we have a different tradition — we have a 2^nd Amendment. We have historically respected gun rights. I respect gun rights.”

Obama then went on to outline some of the Democratic Party’s gun control ideas that Congress has so far declined to pass.

It’s worth revisiting the President’s claim that “our levels of gun violence are off the charts.” They do have charts for these sorts of things, and the charts don’t reflect Obama’s claim.

For the Children

Nearly every affront to liberty in this country has been perpetrated under one simple slogan – it’s for the children. Obamacare, gun control and environmental regulations are just a few examples of government intrusion into civil liberties couched as being necessary to help sweet, nourishing crumb-crunchers avoid the certain harm and probable death that awaits them by existing in a world similar to the one we all grew up in. Even with all we’ve done “for the children,” it’s never enough, and it never will be.

It’s always amusing to hear Democrats talk about the need to “invest” in education, “green” energy, and every other manner of pet project that just happens to line the pockets of their campaign donors. But what do we get for that “investment”?

Merriam-Webster defines “investment” as “the outlay of money usually for income or profit.” In essence, an investment is an outlay of cash for which you expect a return. That return is the part Democrats never mention because, like a broken boomerang, it doesn’t come back.

For instance, our “investment” in public education is not yielding much in the way of results. We are spending more on education than at any time in history, yet schools are failing at alarming rates.

Children aren’t learning, aren’t graduating, can’t read or write, but are passed along anyway. It’s a failure of epic proportions. But the answer coming from Democrats is “more,” always more.

In watching the Democratic gubernatorial race in Maryland, you see the latest push on this from the left – universal pre-K. Universal pre-K is the latest “fix” Democrats across the country are offering to the failed government-run education system. Each of the Maryland candidates, Lt. Governor Anthony Brown, Attorney General Doug Gansler, and Del. Heather Mizeur, are promising universal pre-K to all Marylanders. Why? Because it sounds good.

Head Start is, according to the government’s own website, “a federal program that promotes the school readiness of children ages birth to 5 from low-income families by enhancing their cognitive, social and emotional development.” As we all know, low-income students are out-performing everyone else, so why not extend this wonderful, successful program to all children? Do you hate children?

Wait, Head Start is a total and complete failure. That’s not me saying that, it’s President Obama’s own Department of Health and Human Services. A 2010 study by HHS concluded, “the benefits of access to Head Start at age four are largely absent by 1st grade for the program population as a whole. For 3-year-olds, there are few sustained benefits, although access to the program may lead to improved parent-child relationships through 1st grade…”

And what did these bureaucrats suggest? Not scrapping the failed program and saving the billions spent on it, noooo. They suggested, wait for it…further study.

This unmitigated and self-confessed failure hasn’t stopped Democrats from calling for an expansion of the program to all children, because “THE CHILDREN!!!”

Democrats from Maryland to New York (and coming soon to a state near you) are calling for everyone to get a steerage ticket on the Titanic, er, access to Head Start, all the way down to age 2.

Why stop there? Why ignore newborns for two years? How long until they’re advocating for universal pre-natal-K? Laugh all you want; it’s coming.

Failed programs and ideas don’t go away in the Democratic Party. They just get renamed and grow.

And so, on Monday, the president announced new standards for American power plants, requiring them to spend hundreds of billions of dollars retrofitting themselves to cut CO2 emissions by 30 percent. It’s pretty much the cap-and-trade legislation the Democratic super-majority rejected in 2010, only without the pesky constitutional mumbo-jumbo of winning a vote behind it. And why?

You guessed it, the children.

The president took the opportunity of his weekly radio address to officially announce his usurpation of the legal process and, so as to not miss an opportunity to exploit children, he took his gas-guzzling motorcade to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., to record it.

The president opened his remarks from a children’s hospital by saying there are many kids “being treated here all the time for asthma and other breathing problems. Often these illnesses are aggravated by air pollution, pollution from the same sources that release carbon and contribute to climate change. And for the sake of all our kids, we’ve got to do more to reduce it.”

So your energy prices have to “necessarily skyrocket” for the children! Don’t like that idea? Can’t afford to pay significantly higher energy bills? Why do you hate children?

Since the president is more dependent on strawmen than Dorothy was in Oz, he revisits the children near the end of his remarks with “In America, we don’t have to choose between the health of our economy and the health of our children.” He then bravely says he refuses to “condemn our children to a planet that is beyond fixing.”

The word “hero” is thrown around an awful lot these days, usually unjustifiably. But in this case the dictionary may have found itself a new example picture.

He ends promising “a future where we can look our kids in the eye and tell them we did our part to leave them a safer, more stable world.” The irony of a man who’s doubled the national debt can’t be lost on anyone but the truest of believers.

“For the children” will continue to be used to bludgeon the American people into submitting every right last we have left, maybe not in our lifetimes, but soon, and forever. Unless, that is, the various factions on the right get over their self-pity and anger and realize that just because their chosen candidate lost the primary, they can’t stay home this and every election day hereafter. And if you’re still having difficulty bringing yourself to vote for someone you don’t wholeheartedly support, think about what we’ve already lost and “do it for the children.”

Sen. Ted Cruz Officially Renounces Canadian Citizenship

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has officially renounced his Canadian citizenship, it was announced yesterday. Cruz was a Canadian citizenship due to his birth in Calgary while his father was working there in the oil industry. Cruz was also an American citizen at birth because his mother is a native of Delaware and an American citizen. He was reportedly unaware that he was a Canadian citizen until recently.

Spokeswoman Catherine Frazier said Cruz's action became official May 14 and that Texas' junior senator received written confirmation at his home in Houston on Tuesday.

She said the tea-party-backed Republican "is pleased to have the process finalized."

"Being a U.S. Senator representing Texas, it makes sense he should be only an American citizen," Frazier said in an email.

Canada and the United States are the only two countries with advanced economies that automatically grant citizenship to every person born on its soil.

Cruz is still eligible to run for president despite the location of his birth as he was born a U.S. citizen. Former presidential candidate Sen. John McCain was born in Panama while his father was stationed there in the Navy and was still considered Constitutionally eligible to be president.

This highlights a major issue with jus soli citizenship. Cruz had no interest in being technically Canadian, his parents aren't Canadian, and his parents were not permanent residents of Canada.

"Birth tourism" is an industry in countries like China and Turkey where pregnant women can pay a fee to be flown to the United States, give birth to a brand new American citizen baby, and return to their country of origin. As their child is an American citizen, they are now eligible for a host of benefits, such as the public education system and college system. They can also sponsor citizenship for their parents as well. This is absurd. Citizenship isn't something to collect like a baseball card.

The U.S. should strongly consider adopting a law like in the UK, which require one parent to be a citizen or "legally settled" in the country to confer citizenship on a child.

Iraq is falling to the same Islamic jihadists who are fighting to take over Syria (supported in part by the U.S.)

MOSUL SEIZED: Jihadis loot $429 million from the city’s Central Bank to make ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq & Syria) the world’s richest terrorist organization. ISIS is even more savage and barbaric than al-Qaeda.

IBTimes (h/t winterspirit78)  The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Shams (ISIS) has become the richest terror group ever after looting 500 billion Iraqi dinars – the equivalent of $429m (£256m) – from Mosul’s central bank, according to the regional governor. Nineveh governor Atheel al-Nujaifi confirmed Kurdish televison reports that Isis militants had stolen millions from numerous banks across Mosul. A large quantity of gold bullion is also believed to have been stolen.

 Following the siege of the country’s second city, the bounty collected by the group has left it richer than al-Qaeda itself and as wealthy as small nations such as Tonga, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands and the Falkland Islands. The financial assets that Isis now possess are likely to worsen the Iraqi governement’s struggle to defeat the insurgency, which is aimed at creating an Islamic state across the Syrian-Iraqi border.

The Islamist militants took control of Mosul after hundreds of its fighters overwhelmed government  military forces in a lightening attack on Monday, forcing up to 500,000 people to flee the city and Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki to call a national state of emergency. The militants freed up to 1,000 inmates from Mosul’s central prison, according to senior police officials. They are also in control of Mosul airport and local television stations.

They also seized considerable amounts of US-supplied military hardware. Photos have already emerged of Isis parading captured Humvees in neighbouring Syria where they are also waging war against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

Iraqi police and security forces reportedly fled Mosul prior to the attack, leaving the facilities of the city open for plunder. Mosul was a key area of focus for U.S. forces in an effect to stabilize Iraq, and large amounts of military hardware was left in the city for the Iraqis. Iraq’s parliament speaker said that ISIS took control of the city’s airport and obtained helicopters. ISIS also took control of U.S. Humvees, which they are now proceeding to send to Syria. 

 

Upwards of 150,000 people are now fleeing from Mosul towards Baghdad or Iraqi Kurdistan. U.S. trained Iraqi soldiers are apparently leaving behind their uniforms too as they flee from ISIS. 

In a televised news conference, Maliki said “Iraq is undergoing a difficult stage” and urged the public and government to unite “to confront this vicious attack, which will spare no Iraqi.” The US State Department has released a statement saying that it is “deeply concerned” by the Islamist militants’ siege of Mosul. (Deeply concerned? You were in such a big hurry to get out of there)

“The situation remains extremely serious. Senior U.S. officials in both Washington and Baghdad are tracking events closely in coordination with the Government of Iraq,” the statement read. “The United States stands with the Iraqi people,” it continued. (No, it doesn’t, Obama stands with the jihadists)

Isis captured the city Falluja, 40 miles west of Baghdad, in January and currently controls large swathes of northern Iraq.

The Iraqi government has launched a number of failed assaults on the city leaving hopes of retaking Mosul slim.  An Iraqi army officer told the Independent: “We can’t beat them.” 

“They’re trained in street fighting and we’re not. We need a whole army to drive them out of Mosul. They’re like ghosts; they appear to hit and disappear within seconds.”
