House GOP to keep income tax rate for wealthiest earners

WASHINGTON (AP) — Furiously working to finish a tax bill, House Republicans have decided to keep the income tax rate for the wealthiest earners in the face of Democratic criticism that the overhaul pushed by President Donald Trump would benefit the rich.

Trump and the GOP consider a revamp of the nation's tax code, the first in three decades, a legislative and political imperative after the collapse this past summer of Republican attempt to repeal Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act. Republicans insist they must deliver on taxes to keep their congressional majorities in next year's midterm elections.

Health care was clearly a consideration in Trump's tweet Wednesday morning as he suggested repealing the requirement that Americans get health insurance or face a tax penalty.

The president wrote, "Wouldn't it be great to Repeal the very unfair and unpopular Individual Mandate in ObamaCare and use those savings for further Tax Cuts for the Middle Class. The House and Senate should consider ASAP as the process of final approval moves along. Push Biggest Tax Cuts EVER."

The idea of repealing the individual mandate has been pushed by one Republican senator, Arkansas' Tom Cotton. However, House Republican leaders see such a step as adding political complications to an already difficult task of crafting a tax bill that can pass the House and Senate.

President Trump took to Twitter Wednesday to discuss how the terrorist who carried out Tuesday’s attack in New York City was in the United States.

According to the president, 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov, an Uzbekistan native, “came into our country through what is called the ‘Diversity Visa Lottery Program.’”

Trump called the program a “Chuck Schumer beauty” and noted that he wants a merit-based system.

“We are fighting hard for Merit Based immigration, no more Democrat Lottery Systems. We must get MUCH tougher (and smarter),” he added.
 
He also quoted Col. Tony Shaffer who said “Senator Chuck Schumer [is] helping to import Europes [sic] problems."

“We will stop this craziness!” Trump promised.

NY jihad-truck mass murderer named “Sword of Allah” pledged his allegiance to Islamic State

Inside the rental truck, investigators found a handwritten note in which Sayfullo Saipov had declared his allegiance to the Islamic State, according to officials. Sayfullo means sword of Allah. The allegiance is to Islam – whether it’s ISIS, al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezb’Allah, al Shabaab, Boko Haram and on and on on. He also had a bag with a big hunting knife.

The jihadi screamed ‘Allahu Akbar,’ which was Muhammad’s jihad war cry. “Allah is greater [than your god]!”

NEW YORK — A 29-year-old man driving a rental truck plowed down people on a Manhattan bike path Tuesday in what authorities described as a terrorist attack that killed eight and injured 11 before the suspect was shot and arrested by police.
