And as we are now just a year away from
said “experiment” reaching its 250th birthday...what is
and of itself a true triumph in this ever changing and ever so
volatile modern day world...it left me wondering not only why did we
succeed as a nation but how we did so, especially when other
nations with good intentions have failed. And I do not mean solely in
the context of the individual freedoms our Constitution affords“We
the People,” but in the larger context of how long will we
remain as a nation when now coming into play is America's own special
brand of “enemies within”...“enemies” hell bent on
bringing our beloved America to her knees sometimes, but not always,
minus the usual “shock and awe” tactics that have become
the calling card of America's “enemies from without.”
So as we approach America's 250 year birthday, I also wonder if our “Founders and Framers” ever envisioned that we, as a nation, would last as long as we have for they knew well that giving birth to a nation was far from an easy task as more times than not said birth is riddled with the blood of patriots lost. And while some, including our first president, George Washington, had serious doubts about the longevity of our nation as outlined, constructed, and set to paper in the single “codified” document known as the U.S. Constitution, Washington did hope that its principles and guiding words would endure and stand the test of time.
And why so...simply because no rule of law then or to date...no other government then or to date...has dared to include the very benchmark words that are the founding principles of our free nation...principles like “separation of powers” along with “checks and balance,” thus ensuring that not only was our government “resilient” thanks to a strong national defense also being put into place, while also ensuring that the new nation now being forged was to be a “just and fair nation” where no one, not even the president, was above the rule of law.
And so it left me wondering, especially in relation to our nation's upcoming milestone birthday, exactly when and why did our Constitution start to become the “enemy” to some and but a burden to others...others trying to negate and change the very words laid down by our “Founders and Framers.” A “good cop, bad cop” scenario of sorts that really has no place in regards to our nation's highest rule of law for we must honor those laws as written, and not define them through personal interpretation of how we wished said laws had been written. Legally updating the Constitution via amendments is one thing, but trying to force personal interpretations on the sum of “We the People” is quite a destructive thing.
So here let me put partisan politics aside and briefly state the reasons why I personally believe the “United States of America” is not only the greatest nation the world has ever known, but remains the most free of nations as well. And let me begin by saying that no single nation has even come close to our collective overall economic successes, our military successes (WWI and WWII comes quickly to mind), and our technological successes (with the greatest success of all, to date, being that we are the only nation to have landed men on the moon and brought them safely back to Earth). Now couple that with the fact that ever since John Hancock put his pen to Constitutional paper we have been a role model to the world in regards to the importance of “individual liberties and freedoms”...rights critical in concept to what was then our emerging nation as they are to us today.
But why are “individual liberties and freedoms”...as in the laws put into place to protect citizens from government overreach...paramount above almost all else to the success of any given nation? It's simply because a nation's government and its leaders that respects the individual rights of its citizens not only helps to build unity, trust, stability, confidence, and a true sense of patriotism amongst its populace, but gains respect on the world stage as well.
So yes, it's our individual “liberties, freedoms, and fundamental rights” afforded us by the Constitution that not only help to protect us “citizens” from what could be government overreach, but is what makes our nation great. And with our Constitutionally given right to “freedom of speech, religion, and assembly,” along with our right to “due process,” the cornerstone of who we are as both a nation and a people was laid, while at the same time helping to establish the framework of what is deemed to be America's “social and societal order.” And while no nation nor rule of law...including the historic “Magna Carta”...even comes close to “freedom” as defined in our Constitution...one of the greatest if not the greatest document ever written...our “Founders and Framers” were wise enough to design the Constitution as a testament to both “individual freedoms” and the collective rule of all important “secular”...not religious...law.
Simply, our Constitution is not a religious document nor must it ever become one no matter how some try to meld it together with the “Holy Bible,” nor were its words ever intended to be used by future generations as a blueprint on how to undermine and subvert the will of “We the People” or our societal norms and stability. And yet today, that is exactly what we are seeing by those whom I deem to be our nation's true “enemies within.”And this includes activist judges who are deliberately undermining presidential authority; elected officials who put their partisan driven agendas above Constitutional law; as well as today's indoctrinated young people who are striving to socially re-engineer both our nation's long held societal norms and our founding principals, And the commonality these misguided folks share is the hope that what is their anti-American rhetoric becomes part of the liberal media's daily political discourse.
And so with our nation's 250th birthday still being just a year+ away, we must learn to accept, as fact, that nothing ever lasts forever, and that includes nations. And while the ancient nations of Egypt and China still do exist today they are not as they once were, for like too many others neither have taken to heart the old adage that one must “learn from history or be doomed to repeat it.” A nation's history, whether it be good or bad, does remain its history nevertheless, and to try and erase the bad will not now or ever erase what was. And with “We the People” only now starting to understand the possible challenges we might or might not have to face in either the near or not so distant future, one thing I do know is that Americans always welcome positive change for positives do tend to negate, or a least temper down, the negatives in most any given situation.
So while I, like so many others, look forward to celebrating America's “milestone” 250th birthday and all the “pomp and circumstances” that rightfully go with it, I do believe that our great nation will continue on no matter the obstacles thrown in her path for the simple fact is that America will survive because America must survive...both common sense and logic deems it so. And know that a mere 250 years is just the beginning of Thomas Jefferson's “experiment” in “self-government and individual liberty.” now having morphed into the one true beacon of freedom and exceptionalism that is the ever lasting hallmark of the “United States of America.” Case closed.

And while political battles continue in D.C. and across the nation, Memorial Day offers us the chance for all Americans…no matter our race, creed, color, religion, party affiliation, or whether this president is our president of choice…to unite together and remember the one thing we all we have in common...gratitude...gratitude for those who served…gratitude for the brave men and women who proudly wore but sadly died wearing our nation’s uniform…gratitude so that we can go to that beach and can enjoy that barbecue.

Memorial Day is a day when we should teach our children the importance of the sacrifices made by so many to ensure their freedoms and the freedoms of generations to come.

Memorial Day is a day to honor the remains buried at the Tomb of the "Unknown Soldier" for while he, brave soldier whomever he may be, is home resting on American soil he is not with his loved ones, but serves as a reminder of the many who never made it home, and should remind us that there are still some left behind who must be brought home.

Memorial Day is a day to honor courage for while those lost in battle knew fear, they sacrificed with courage of heart and strength of conviction, something that must never be forgotten for without knowing fear there can be no courage and without courage there can be no victory. Those who gave all deemed their love of country and duty to freedom were of greater value and more important then the fears they faced in dying.
Memorial Day is a day to also honor the very freedoms those lost in battle gave to each and every one of us…the freedom we have in our beloved America to act, speak, and think as we so choose without hindrance or restraint…a freedom we intend never to lose…a freedom we will fight for with just as much passion, dedication, determination, and courage as those who sacrificed before us…for we will not allow their sacrifice to be forgotten nor will we allow our freedoms to be taken away.
No…we will never allow their sacrifice to have been in vain.

So on this Memorial Day I will bow my head in solemn prayer and thank and remember those who made that ultimate sacrifice to keep our nation free…and pray to God that someday…"nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." (Isaiah 2:4)
Someday…someday soon I pray. And may God our Father Bless America today, tomorrow, and always.

Over the past few months I've briefly mentioned in some op-eds and on Craig Andresen and my “Right Side Patriots Radio” show about how the world's top three “superpowers”...the United States, Russia, and China... need to join together to help in calming down the still escalating tensions that have become the mainstay of today's international political discourse, especially in regards to Iran and its widely dispersed, terrorist driven, proxy armies. And why is such an alliance needed now more then ever before...because without it, it's only a matter of time before any given nation or rouge operatives in possession of nuclear weapons decides to take matters into their own hands.
Simply, a resetting of the “Doomsday Clock” needs to happen post haste for there are way too many “bad actors”...most especially the mullahs in Iran...still calling the ever volatile “geopolitical” shots. How so? For starters it's important to remember that while the United States is the world’s most powerful nation with the most advanced overall military capabilities to date, Putin's Russia is right behind in the number two position, and what some don't know is that they actually possess more nuclear weapons than we do...as in 5,580 armed nuclear missiles with 1,710 of them being deployed, to our 5,044 and 1,670 nukes respectively. And while this leaves China behind in third place not to be forgotten is that China has the largest numbers manpower wise...as in two million active duty military personnel...in addition to their having 500 armed nukes with 24 of them being deployed, plus the fact that they do have the world's largest economy no matter that we have a higher per capital GDP. And when the economic factors are melded into China's still formidable military capabilities, one can see why we three nations must learn to work together before the “doomsday clock” hits zero. And so with Russia’s increasing dependence on Chinese imports, their respective leaders are getting a wee bit too close for our comfort as what can become a “locked in stone” economic and military alliance between these two nations could well propel that alliance...what some are calling an “axis of power”...into a jointly held number one “superpower” position. Not good folks, not good at all nor is the fact that with the numbers I just stated, leads one to wonder why did we...as in the world leaders...allow the proliferation of nuclear weapons to reach the numbers that it did for the reality is that those numbers dictate that we are no longer talking just about a possible nuclear war between a few nations, but about the total destruction of planet Earth, our collective home.So how do we sever, if you will, what seems to be a still growing and dangerous Russia/China love fest or what President Trump has rightfully said is “Russia and China uniting.” Simply, the three “superpower” nations must, for the sake of the world, put their internal politics and personal hatreds aside and start looking at the much larger global picture, for the fact remains, whether for better or worse, that we are indeed all in this together.
Besides, with the U.S., Russia, and China forming what would then be known as the “superpower alliance”...said “alliance” could become if not the key catalyst for lasting peace per se, at least it could be the touch off point that leads to some semblance of global “stability”...including “stability” of the economic kind. And with said “stability” in place we would see world economics actually starting to right itself on its own, thus helping to end what many still see as the “inequities” between rich and poor nations, the very thing that at times tends to be one of the main reasons for war.And here let me state that I am not looking at the situation we're all facing through rose colored glasses, but through the tangible reality that encompasses both common sense and logic, for the fact is that if we stay the course that we're now on it will be too late to reset the always ticking “doomsday clock.”
"The time has come now, when man must give up war. It is no longer rational to solve international problems by resorting to war." - so said Albert Einstein shortly after the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945.
So knowing this, the all important question now becomes, how do we get the United States, Russia, and China to put aside their differences and talk of war, and actually form the aforementioned “superpower alliance?”
First, I would think that above all else we must be willing to accept the similarities between our three nations as being more important than are our political and ideological differences. And what are some of said similarities? To start with, we, Russia, and China want to expand our international influence along with our trade options while at the same time hoping to increase communication and much needed transparency between our nations through the art of diplomacy.
Second, the governments of our respective nations must openly acknowledge that war itself, even for the victor can, at times, come with a caveat...a caveat that actually negates ones victory by turning what was physical success into unsustainable, costly, and long term economic dependency for both sides.
Third, while the U.S., Russia, and China also want to generate economic growth and prosperity at home, President Trump, Vladimir Putin, and Xi Jinping must know that securing economic growth alone is not necessarily the only conduit for peace because war itself tends to be the number one drainer of what was a given country's economic success.Fourth, the “superpowers” must understand that any sanctions imposed are but one side's short term fix that unfortunately helps to mask the real problem(s) at hand.
Fifth, and lastly, while we know that for some nations western style democracy...as we deem said democracy to be...is not now nor will it ever be the “one size fits all solution” to their given country's problems for certain core ideologies and beliefs have been ingrained too deeply within that country's societal and governing norms to suddenly be replaced by concepts as foreign to them as their concepts are to us. But that does not mean we cannot accept those differences...minus the inclusion or acceptance of physical violence of course...while the “superpower alliance” moves forward in its “stabilization” endeavors to eventually help secure a lasting peace.
In other words, with what would be the combined power of the United States, Russia, and China working together as one cohesive unit the chance for peace and “stability” increases ten fold for few nations would be willing to take on such a triad of power...few nations except for Iran that is. But why would Iran do so...simply because the world's largest sponsor of terrorism believes they are fighting a “Holy War” against not only the West but against all non believers. Remember, uncontrolled religious fervor of any kind is seen by its followers as both a justification for war and for unbridled violence, thus making “Holy Wars” particularly dangerous, destructive, and hard to squelch. And this is the type of war Iran's mullahs are fighting...this is the war the“superpower alliance” would be fighting against whether at this point in time they would be willing to admit it or not.
Simply, it not only makes economic sense for Russia to be part of the “superpower alliance,” but it makes sense logistically as well. How so...because Russia...because Vladimir Putin...knows well that a nuclear armed Iran would not only change the delicate balance of power and influence in the Middle East, but would see Russia's already huge investment...militarily and monetarily wise...in the area basically being either neutralized, negated, or replaced.
And as for China, who in their eyes sill considers itself to be “non-interventionist in nature,” they would benefit from such an “alliance” because with their current economy actually thriving on dealing with countries in conflict, their being in said “alliance” would actually not cause injury to China's own interests, but would actually see their own economy growing even stronger than it would by either standing alone or with a nuclear armed and ever so dangerous Iran. After all, self preservation does trump both world opinion and misplaced political ideologies. And here it's important to know that war itself, sadly, is part of human nature...man's history itself proves that to be true...but there is a difference between a war and possible total nuclear annihilation. And so, at this point in time, we do need to take a step back and start focusing on our aforementioned similarities and common grounds, and less on our differences and what are usually indoctrinated hatreds.
So the only way to speed that process up, in my opinion, is for a “superpower alliance” to remove from the world discourse those whose mission is to perpetrate hate and violence as the means to their personally decided end. Countries like Iran, from which most of the hate and violence in today's world originates from, must either institute a change in leadership on their own or face the consequences of nations united together who will do it for them. And while nuclear weapons are not needed to do so, the threat of using them is. And that alone should wake up those still slumbering in their own brand of “nuclear winter” delusions.
Always remember, the words of Albert Einstein who wisely stated that, “I don't know how World War III will be fought, but I can tell you what they will fight the fourth World War with — sticks and stones.”...that is if anyone is left alive to throw them. Case closed.

Last week in my article “An Essay On Ukraine” I wrote about history's lessons now seemingly unlearned and why Ukraine is not just a harbinger back to the past but a dangerous foreboding of a possible future...a future that if not handled correctly now, will not play out well in our, Ukraine's, or the free world's favor. And while Vladimir Putin currently has garnered for himself the leading actor role in this current modern day game of war...a war with seemingly no end in sight...the United States, under the misplaced leadership of Joe Biden, is being seen by both allies and enemies alike as but a laughing stock at best. And to add to Ukraine's and now our woes, we see what was a somewhat self-contained war being expanded on a worldwide scale as a new player is set to upstage all the current key players, with said player's name being Red China, who of course is talking out of both sides of its mouth.
Red China...the very nation who via manpower alone deems itself always ready for war...recently saw its leaders flexing political muscle by first threatening to side with and help arm Putin's Russia in its war against Ukraine, and then days later saying that China is now willing to mediate and help bring this “horrifying invasion” to an end, but that they would do so only while remaining committed to their “no limits” partnership with Russia. Obviously now playing both sides of the political coin...as well as having armed both sides with non-lethal drones...China has introduced what they call a 12-Point Plan* to end the war...a plan courtesy of a country known for its flagrant violations of basic human rights. But know that China did abstain when the United Nations General Assembly voted last week on a nonbinding resolution calling for Russia to end hostilities in Ukraine and withdraw its troops from the former Soviet state. And with China's now adding...as per its Foreign Ministry website...that “Nuclear weapons must not be used and nuclear wars must not be fought...The threat or use of nuclear weapons should be opposed,” we do know that China herself is running scared...especially as they plan to soon “reabsorb” Taiwan back into the mainland's fold, for even they know that Putin is acting irrationally what with his not taking a nuclear option in regards to Ukraine off the proverbial table. But no matter China's incursion into the political discourse...no matter its abstaining from the UN's above stated resolution...we also saw last week the Duma (Russia's lower House of Parliament) unanimously approving Putin's “suspending” of the all-important “New START Treaty”...the very treaty they and we signed back in 2010 (extended in 2021 by five years) with this being the very treaty that placed specific limits on the the number of “strategic nuclear warheads” that both the U.S. and Russia can have.
And isn't almost everything of importance about numbers, in this case limiting to 1,500 the number of nuclear warheads both the U.S. and Russia can possess, while the NATO nations of France and the United Kingdom do have 290 and 225 such warheads respectively. But while those seem like large numbers, know that said numbers are far from the truth what with Russia currently having in its possession 5,977 nuclear warheads to our 5,428 such weapons. But when NATO's weapons are added into our total, the numbers shift to we the “good guys” having 5,943 such weapons with Russia having 5,977...still leaving our side to lag behind a bit. But when Israel's estimated 80 to 400 (if not more) such weapons are also added to our side, and China's (as per the latest Pentagon estimate) 250 to 350 nuclear warheads are added to Russia's total, that number shifts in favor of our side...as in our having 6,343 strategic nuclear warheads compared to Russia and China having 6,327 such weapons combined...thus allowing we the “good guys” to outnumber the “bad guys” by 16 nuclear warheads.
Outrageous numbers indeed...numbers equating to what would surely be nuclear annihilation. So why do I even bring these numbers up...simply to show the foolishness of the “New START Treaty” itself... foolishness as it's obviously not being adhered to by either side. And when the cumulative numbers of nuclear warheads on each side are added up...equaling 12,670 such weapons now being in play...the fact is that if even a single handful of such warheads were launched in regards to Ukraine we would see “Mother Earth” herself becoming but a distant memory in the universe's ever unfolding story.
No, Putin's withdrawing from the “New START Treaty” is not the real issue here as all it does is show the world that a 1,500 nuclear warhead limit was always laughable at best. And with nuclear armageddon now dangerously close at hand, it must be understood that Putin's invasion of Ukraine was indeed based solely upon politics and not as a means towards simple military conquest. Why so...because each side could easily wipe out the other with just the push of a single button.
Then why is Vladimir Putin masquerading this current blood and guts war with Ukraine as being a threat to Russia's security especially with NATO sitting ever so close to Russia's border? It's because Ukraine has become Putin's proxy and in his mind a justifiable reason for being at war with the United States...the very country that saw President Reagan bringing both “Mother Russia” and the Soviet Union itself to its knees. And here let's remember that for Vladimir Putin “saving face” is as important to him and to Russia as it is to China and it's leader Xi Jinping.
And so with China now entering the fray no matter in what capacity, the war being fought in Ukraine is really a war between the East vs. the West...between democracy vs. communism...between capitalism vs. socialism...and most importantly between freedom and conquest through attrition...now all being fought as we move dangerously closer to either all out nuclear war or a one world government finally trumping all.
Two possible scenarios, neither one of them good nor desirable. So unless we put our collective fear of Vladimir Putin's threats aside Ukraine will indeed become ground zero for nuclear war...the very thing Putin seems to have no fear of. In fact, Putin's actions alone reek of his itching for nuclear war...baited actions bolstered by Red China's entering the battleground discourse...for better or worse. Why else would Putin be continuing to fight a war that he appears to be militarily losing if not for having the nuclear option readily on the table. Remember, threats of armageddon in some form or another have appeared throughout mankind's history, and history does tend to repeat itself even when our eyes are wide open.Simply, history lessons unlearned will once again become today's sad reality especially when madmen and fools continue running the show. And when self-serving political interests, more times than not, override both common sense and what passes for basic logic...a nuclear fought World War III cannot be far behind.
So how do we and NATO...how does Ukraine...stop what could be a now suicidal leaning Vladimir Putin from turning blood already spilled into an nuclear initiated World War III?
First, it must be decidedly understood that Vladimir Putin totally underestimated both Vlodymyr Zelenskyy's and the Ukrainian people's ability to not only fight back, but to hold onto territory he now covets, thus leading to tangible emotions bubbling over. So Putin really has but one single option left...if not nuclear war...and that option is to keep U.S. due-diligence focused solely on how the rest of the world regards and acts upon his overtly “imperialistic ambitions,” while at the same time he accepts as fact that any negotiated settlement reached will be both fragile at best and reliant upon third-party intervention. And here I do not mean Red China's playing both sides with its recent incursion, but how Israel...yes Israel...reacts to the very conflict that they, up until now, have tried hard to stay out of.
Israel could well be the much needed third party to bring both sides to table. Why so...because what most forget is that Israel has a good working and personal relationship with both Ukraine and Russia. In fact, Putin considers Israel to be a “crucial regional player”...a player who happens to have considerable influence here in the U.S. And with “US News & World Report” now listing the Jewish State of Israel as the world’s 10th-most powerful nation...due to its military strength and in relation to its political and global economic successes...Israel might be able to accomplish the task that up until now has been impossible...as in getting both Putin and Zelenskyy to make the necessary concessions needed for ending not just ongoing hostilities but the war itself.Remember, Putin and Russia are hurting both on the battlefield and economically at home as the bills of war do add up while sanctions placed are hurting. War is indeed an expensive game to play both in blood and treasure, meaning that war cannot go on forever. Exit options are not just about “saving face” but about the reality being that's it's better to negotiate and settle than to outright lose in war. This is truly the place Putin now finds himself in even though he will not admit it, while Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his forces have most of the world on their side. Simply, better to negotiate the best possible “out” then to blow us all up...something I think that even Vladimir Putin would dare not do.
So what can Israel offer as a peacemaker that others could not? The answer is really quite simple in that by Israel's having avoided taking public positions as to where they stand in regards to this war, Israel has been able to work behind the scenes with all parties involved for while it silently bolsters Ukraine, Israel has not alienated Putin nor Russia. In other words, in Israel's looking out for Israel they have also succeeded in maintaining good relations with the U.S. and Ukraine while at the same time working to strengthen Putin's acceptance of Israel’s freedom to operate militarily against Iranian forces out for their destruction, including those forces currently active in Syria. In other words, no other country but Israel has alienated any side in this war, and that alone makes Israel an ideal candidate in trying to bring a negotiated end to said war. Diplomacy can still work in regards to Ukraine, but China is not the country to do so as their ties to Russia run too deep. And besides with Israel having the world's only workable EMP device they actually can bring this war to an end if it and Putin truly gets out of hand. Just saying...case closed.
