An article published Thursday in the Harvard Theological Review said scientists at three universities who analyzed the fragment, called the Gospel of Jesus’ Wife, reported that it resembles other ancient papyrus documents from the fourth century to the eighth century.
The journal also published a peer-reviewed paper on Thursday by Harvard historian Karen L. King, who discovered the fragment, and a rebuttal by Leo Depuydt, a professor of Egyptology at Brown University, who believes it is a fake.
The fragment, which was brought to light in 2012, says “Jesus said to them, ‘My wife …,’ ” as well as the words “she will be able to be my disciple.” It opened a contentious debate in the Catholic Church on whether women can serve as priests.
This might surprise some people, but there are women in heaven too! I will quote a couple of scriptures; make and comment and then let the subject rest.
ReplyDeleteGen. 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in his own image created he him; male and female created he them.
If there were no women in heaven, and if they were not in God’s image, then why did he create them? The fact of the matter is that there were women in heaven. They are a part of us and we are a part of them – we are one! One without the other cannot exist.
I find it hard that Adam would make the following statement if he had no concept of a woman:
Gen. 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
If Adam had no mother, then why did he just mention her? We know Adam had a father…God! It also follows they shall be one flesh. If God’s image is male and female, does this not mean Adam and Eve are in the image or their creator (God and his wife; i.e. male and female.)
The man is not without the woman in God (meaning, that a man MUST have a wife to exist at the level of God.) Otherwise, they are as angels in heaven (meaning ministering beings); they have no further increase (and are damned in a sense.) I will remind everyone, in the resurrection, there is neither marrying or giving in marriage (that can only be done in this life…in the resurrection there will be no more time for that. The person’s mission will be over.)
Yes…Christ could very well be married…and I wouldn’t be surprised. Now...women and the priesthood is something else! I won't go there. There is no biblical example of this.
Great points.
