Trump not happy with Iran’s latest proposal to end war — says all options, including more strikes, on the table

President Trump on Friday said Iran’s latest proposal to end the ongoing war with the US is a non-starter — and that all options, including further military strikes, are on the table.

“We just had a conversation with Iran, let’s see what happens. But I would say that I am not happy,” he told reporters at the White House. “… They’re asking for things that I can’t agree to.” 

Tehran passed its latest proposal to end its war with the US to Washington through mediators on Thursday as diplomacy continues at a snail’s pace, Iranian sources and state media said Friday.

“They want to make a deal so badly, but they’re not there yet. They’re not there,” Trump said. “In my opinion, they’re not there.”

The Trump administration has insisted that Iran give up its pursuit of a nuclear weapon, while Tehran has said issues related to reopening the Strait of Hormuz to shipping must be dealt with first. Read more, and see video here.

Trump announces tariffs on European cars going to 25% next week — claims bloc ‘not complying’ with trade deal

WASHINGTON — President Trump announced Friday he would soon raise tariffs to 25% on vehicles imported from the European Union, claiming the bloc was non-compliant with its US trade deal.

“I am pleased to announce that, based on the fact the European Union is not complying with our fully agreed to Trade Deal, next week I will be increasing Tariffs charged to the European Union for Cars and Trucks coming into the United States,” he said in a post to Truth Social.

Trump did not elaborate on or specify his issues with the 27-member union.

Companies that build vehicles in the United States will be exempt from the tariff, he added.

“Many Automobile and Truck Plants are currently under construction, with over 100 Billion Dollars being invested, A RECORD in the History of Car and Truck Manufacturing,” Trump claimed.

“These Plants, staffed with American Workers, will be opening soon — There has never been anything like what is happening in America today!” Read more here.

Trump more likely to continue game of chicken with Iran than to attack - analysis

All of the reports leaked about US officials briefing Trump on his military options against Iran present the plans as 'new' options. They have, in fact, been on the table since early March.

Despite leaked reports about top US military officials briefing President Donald Trump on new escalatory and potentially imminent military options against Iran, the current game of chicken will continue for the near future, Israeli and American sources have indicated to The Jerusalem Post.

While the leaks present Trump as being briefed on potential “new” options for attacking Iran so that it will make further concessions, nuclear or otherwise, all of these plans have been on the table since early March and are not new, according to people familiar with the matter.

Despite repeated opportunities to opt for any of the multiple options, Trump has preferred avoiding the additional risks they entail, the sources indicated.

Trump opted for a unilateral ceasefire on April 7, even though he received no assurances of concessions by Iran.

The calculus was relatively simple: Trump was hemorrhaging political support once the war went past its early days of euphoria. Read more here.
