After Ukrainian City Falls to Russians and Power Plant on Fire, Zelensky Has Idea of How to 'Stop This War'
Rebecca Downs / Townhall Tipsheet

Update: Shortly after this piece was published, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky tweeted for the first time in 16 hours. The video message, which includes a caption translated to say "Urgently!," appears to be about the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

Original: The Russian invasion of Ukraine has been going on for a week now, and yet the Russians have only been able to capture one city, Kherson, as Matt mentioned earlier on Thursday. There's been agreements to a temporary ceasefire as well, though the keyword here is temporary, and it's only occurring in certain parts of the country so that civilians can get to safety and food and medicine can get through. Further, "Zaporizhzhia" is trending on Twitter, as is "Nuclear Plant," because Russian troops have gone after that nuclear power plant, the largest of its kind in Europe, located in the city of Enerhodar.

It can't be stressed enough how bad this could be, with some saying this could be worse than Chernobyl, as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine warned over Twitter.

Fortunately, the most recent tweet from International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has a bit of hopeful news. Read more and see tweets and videos here.

Judge to New York AG: Sorry, You Can't Dissolve the NRA
Matt Vespa / Townhall Tipsheet

The Left’s war on the National Rifle Association has been ongoing for months. New York Attorney General Letitia James has vowed to dissolve the organization through a series of legal actions aimed at exposing the allegations of fraud and corruption among the upper crust of the group. The NRA is one of the nation’s oldest civil rights organizations, though how they’ve spent their donors’ money, among other things, has drawn immense scrutiny. Some items purchased with these funds were not earmarked properly. A wedding does not enhance or promote Second Amendment rights. This has been a months-long saga, but a judge on the New York State Supreme Court has ruled the AG cannot nuke the organization (via The Reload):

New York Attorney Letitia James (D.) has been dealt a major setback in her corruption case against the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Moldova prepared to defend itself after map shows former Soviet republic as possible next Russian target
Moldova is prepared to defend itself against a "very worst-case scenario," Ambassador Eugen Caras says
Lisa Bennatan , Matt Wall | Fox News

The Moldovan ambassador to the U.S. said Wednesday his country is prepared to defend its borders if Russia or Belarus were to invade the former Soviet republic.

"The country is prepared [for] any kind of scenarios, including the very worst-case scenario," Ambassador Eugen Caras told Fox News in an exclusive interview. "So we will be defending what's to be defended."

A day earlier, video surfaced showing Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko standing in front of a map that appeared to indicate the Moldovan breakaway state of Transnistria as a potential next target.

Lukashenko is Russian President Vladimir Putin’s closest ally in the region. Belarus was instrumental in the lead-up to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

‘Mistake’ on the map? Caras said the Belarusians told Moldovan officials that the placement of Moldova on the map was a "mistake."

What happened to Russia's Air Force? U.S. officials, experts stumped

Before Russia's invasion of Ukraine, U.S. intelligence had predicted a blistering assault by Moscow that would quickly mobilize the vast Russian air power that its military assembled in order to dominate Ukraine's skies.

But the first six days have confounded those expectations and instead seen Moscow act far more delicately with its air power, so much so that U.S. officials can't exactly explain what's driving Russia's apparent risk-averse behavior.

"They're not necessarily willing to take high risks with their own aircraft and their own pilots," a senior U.S. defense official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Vastly outmatched by Russia's military, in terms of raw numbers and firepower, Ukraine's own air force is still flying and its air defenses are still deemed to be viable - a fact that is baffling military experts.

After the opening salvos of the war on Feb. 24, analysts expected the Russian military to try to immediately destroy Ukraine's air force and air defenses. That would have been "the logical and widely anticipated next step, as seen in almost every...Read more here.

Well, Joe Biden’s State of the Union was marked with some oddities, to say the least. Some of the greetings he offered to members of Congress were just weird; he headbutted them. We’ll get into the other bizarre antics that occurred later today, but Joe did what he does best. Trip over his own tongue. There were little trip-ups like not being able to pronounce “ruble” when discussing the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It’s an entirely different matter when he forgets the geographical location.

The first part of the speech did offer support for Ukraine. It expounded on how Biden was this master architect in getting the West to respond to this invasion. I’m doubtful of these foreign policy moves since Biden presided over a shambolic exit from Afghanistan. The man has been wrong on every major foreign policy move for the past 40 years. He later said that while the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv was surrounded by Russian forces, Vladimir Putin could never gain the hearts and souls of the…“Iranian people.” See tweets and video here.
