States divided on gun controls, even as mass shootings rise
Rachel La Corte and Andrew Demillo /AP News / The Associated Press

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Washington Gov. Jay Inslee was quick to react to this week’s carnage at a Texas elementary school, sending a tweet listing the gun control measures the Democratic-controlled state has taken. He finished with: “Your turn Congress.”

But gun control measures are likely going nowhere in Congress, and they also have become increasingly scarce in most states. Aside from several Democratic-controlled states, the majority have taken no action on gun control in recent years or have moved aggressively to expand gun rights.

That’s because they are either controlled politically by Republicans who oppose gun restrictions or are politically divided, leading to stalemate.

“Here I am in a position where I can do something, I can introduce legislation, and yet to know that it almost certainly is not going to go anywhere is a feeling of helplessness,” said state Sen. Greg Leding, a Democrat in the GOP-controlled Arkansas Legislature. He has pushed unsuccessfully for red flag…Read more here.

Kudlow: Biden's woke climate agenda would put economy into permanent recession                                              Kudlow ripped the president's fossil-free progressive agenda

Of course, people have been asking me, "Are we in a recession?" or "When are we going into recession?" Here is my answer.

If President Joe Biden ever succeeded with his woke, climate, fossil-free progressive agenda, he will put the American economy into a permanent recession. That's right.

In Japan, the other day, he gleefully talked about an incredible transition away from fossil fuels. He's more than pleased to see sky-rocketing gasoline prices. That's when he made his "incredible transition" remark, and then he says "God willing, when it's over we'll be stronger and the world will be stronger."

My response is, if Biden's dream ever came true, then God willing, maybe we'll still have an economy because, we will never have a healthy economy without fossil fuels. Full stop. Read more and see videos here.
Here's a Three-Word Policy That's Been Effective in Stopping School Shootings
Matt Vespa / Townhall Tipsheet

The border city of Uvalde, Texas is mourning. Salvador Ramos, 18, shot and killed 19 fourth-grade students and two teachers at Robb Elementary School. They were all in one classroom. It’s a heinous crime. It’s a Sandy Hook-like situation. Ramos shot his grandmother before this rampage. The grandmother is said to have survived. We’re going to hear an earful about gun control, so-called assault weapons bans, and other anti-gun talking points from Democrats. And the result will always be the same—Americans will not torch their rights to appease a political class lusting for more power and control, especially after the COVID lockdown fiasco. NONE of the COVID protocols were effective. The lockdowns did next to nothing to reduce the mortality rate. The one policy that has been effective is having police officers at schools.

We Now Know Who Stopped the Uvalde Shooter
Spencer Brown / Townhall Tipsheet

When a deranged 18-year-old stormed into a Uvalde, Texas, elementary school — after reportedly killing his own grandmother — and opened fire, there was apparently no one on hand to stop his rampage. No one, that is, until Border Patrol agents in the small city of around 16,000 residents heard of the unfolding horror and sprung into action without hesitation.

Uvalde, Texas, is home to a Border Patrol station due to its proximity to the U.S.-Mexico border some 70 miles away.

As The Associated Press reported late Tuesday evening, a border agent "rushed into the school without waiting for backup and shot and killed the gunman, who was behind a barricade, according to a law enforcement official speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk about it." Ukraine: Russia must withdraw to pre-war positions for talks

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine’s president said Wednesday that Russia must pull back to its pre-war positions as a first step before diplomatic talks, a negotiating line that Moscow is unlikely to agree to anytime soon as it focuses its fire on key regions in the east three months into the war.

Speaking by video link at this year’s World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed a willingness to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin directly, but stressed that Moscow needs to make clear it too is ready to “shift from the bloody war to diplomacy.”

“It’s possible if Russia shows at least something. When I say at least something, I mean pulling back troops to where they were before Feb. 24,” the day Russia’s invasion began, he said. “I believe it would be a correct step for Russia to make.”
