The 2024 Race Is Already Underway
Kurt Schlichter  / Townhall Columnist / Opinion

The 2022 midterms are not yet over – get ready to savor the wailing and gnashing of teeth of broken, shattered libs! – but the GOP’s 2024 presidential race is already underway. Not officially, not openly, but we can see the candidates’ covert positioning. Soon it will be overt. Word on the street is that not long after the red wave hits, Donald Trump will announce he is seeking the Republican nomination, taking credit for some of the big midterm wins. He would love a quick and quiet coronation, but that’s not happening. The GOP primary fight is going to be epic, and if you think Ron DeSantis is not going to run, I have a bridge to sell you that Governor DeSantis rebuilt in record time during his massively successful Hurricane Ian response.

Last Sunday afternoon I got bored – you can only slap around so many Twitter pinko blue checks before it gets monotonous – and I decided to toss a match into a barrel of high-octane gasoline. I tweeted “Okay, let's do this thing. Who do you hardcore patriots want to see win the GOP 2024 nomination right this minute, knowing you can change your mind as the primary progresses...” Then I listed the poll choices and set it to run for two hours. I expected a few hundred results, and for the former president to come in ahead of the pack.

Stuart Varney: President Biden had a 'very bad day'
Economic and domestic challenges apply pressure to Democrats ahead of midterms
FOXBusiness

During his latest "My Take," "Varney & Co." host Stuart Varney discusses the challenges Biden faces ahead of the midterm elections and his latest gaffe, arguing the president had a ‘very bad day’ Monday.

STUART VARNEY: Monday, the president had a very bad day.

He'd just come back from a weekend vacation. He should have been fresh and focused. He was not.

He called Vice President Harris, president. He seemed to get lost on the stage. And his staffers had to walk back his mistakes on student loans.

Not the image a chief executive wants with crucial elections two weeks away. The news background didn't help.

The report card on public schools came in

It was a shocker. Serious declines in math and reading scores. Today we hear, most of the $122 billion earmarked for the schools, has not been spent! Read more and see video here.

Dr. Oz Crushes Fetterman in Debate
Spencer Brown / Townhall Tipsheet

On Tuesday night, Mehmet Oz and John Fetterman finally met to debate after the Fetterman campaign tried to avoid debating Oz, then finally folded under immense pressure from all sides of the political spectrum.

Even before Tuesday's debate between the two men running to represent the Keystone State in the U.S. Senate, Fetterman's campaign had scrambled to lower expectations for their candidate, though they may not have lowered them enough.

Moderators began with an explanation of how the captioning system required by the Fetterman campaign for their candidate to participate — due to lingering auditory processing issues following Fetterman's stroke — would work.

But even with the assistance of the captioning system, Fetterman struggled to respond to questions.

When asked about the federal minimum wage, Fetterman struggled to get through his answer that sought to invoke a "living wage," calling it a "willing wage" and generally fumbling the answer. Read more, see tweets and videos here.

Op-ed:
Ukraine vs. Russia...The Bigger Picture
By: Diane Sori and Craig Andresen / Right Side Patriots / Right Side Patriots Radio

...And so it might well be up to the Russian people...or Russia's military itself...to force Putin to end this war as Zelensky's forces continue to successfully push back Russian forces including in the key industrial now battlefield city of Sievierodonetsk. And it's here where Putin has now ordered the blowing up of bridges to prevent Zelensky's forces from bringing in military reinforcements and delivering aid to help the civilians trapped in an almost nine months long war...a war Putin still insists on calling a “special military operation.” But while he can call it whatever he wants, Putin can no longer hide the fact that the once overwhelming advantage in both personnel and equipment that Russia once held has now suffered humiliating defeat at the hands of a rag-tag army of resistance fighters whose best weapon has been that their fight in the name of freedom has proven to be the best and most powerful weapon of all...Read entire article and see video here.
Charlie Crist Obsesses Over 2024 and Abortion in Debate, Even If It Means Breaking Rules
Rebecca Downs / Townhall Tipsheet

Monday night brought a particularly raucous and poorly-controlled debate between Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and his Democratic opponent, Rep. Charlie Crist (D-FL), who, until he resigned a few months ago, served in Congress. The debate was put on by WFLA, a local Tampa outlet.

The audience members supporting both sides, though mostly those in support of Crist, applauded out of turn. Crist's supporters also were allowed to boo and even heckle DeSantis. Crist himself even broke debate rules by asking DeSantis to commit to sharing whether or not he would run for president in 2024.

While DeSantis did not answer the question, he did take advantage of Crist providing him with a memorable line, which highlighted his priority in being at the debate that night to run against Crist for governor. "Listen, I know that Charlie is interested in talking about 2024 and Joe Biden. But I just want to make things very, very clear, the only worn-out, old donkey I'm looking to put out to pasture is Charlie Crist," he said to applause after confirming with the moderator that it was his time to speak.
