US Supreme Court upholds federal domestic-violence gun ban

The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday upheld a federal law that makes it a crime for people under domestic violence restraining orders to have guns, handing a victory to President Joe Biden's administration as the justices opted not to further widen firearms rights after a major expansion in 2022.

 

The 8-1 ruling, authored by conservative Chief Justice John Roberts, overturned a lower court's decision striking down the 1994 law as a violation of the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment right to "keep and bear arms." The law was challenged by a Texas man who was subject to a restraining order for assaulting his girlfriend in a parking lot and later threatening to shoot her.

 

The New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals had concluded that the measure failed the Supreme Court's stringent test set in 2022 that required gun laws to be "consistent with the nation's historical tradition of firearm regulation" to comply with the Second Amendment.

 

But Roberts wrote that since the nation's founding, firearm laws have targeted people who threaten physical harm to others.

Judge Aileen Cannon holds hearing Friday on motion to dismiss Trump case

The judge presiding over former President Trump's classified records case is holding a hearing Friday to consider whether the appointment of U.S. Special Counsel Jack Smith and the funding of his investigations is "unlawful."

Judge Aileen Cannon of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida had postponed the trial stemming from Smith’s investigation into Trump’s alleged improper retention of classified records indefinitely. 

Upon postponing the trial, Cannon scheduled deadlines for reports on June 10 and 17 and a nonevidentiary hearing on a motion to dismiss on Friday, "based on unlawful appointment and funding of special counsel." 

Cannon expanded Friday's hearing to allow amici to argue before the court, as well as Trump defense attorneys and federal prosecutors.

Former Attorney General Ed Meese, who served under former President Reagan, filed an amicus brief in the case, in which he argues that Attorney General Merrick Garland’s appointment of Smith as special counsel – a private citizen at the time – is in violation of the appointments clause of the Constitution.

Legal experts say gag order in Trump case is 'untethered' to 'rationale' after court order

A New York appeals court on Tuesday kept in place a gag order on former President Trump, who asked the court to lift the ban on his speech after the recent guilty verdict in his unprecedented criminal trial. 

Now that the trial has concluded and the former president and presumptive GOP nominee in the 2024 presidential election awaits sentencing next month, experts say the gag order, which Judge Juan Merhcan has refused to lift, is "untethered from any compelling rationale."

"You have a local New York judge effectively limiting what the leading presidential candidate can say in the months leading up to an election," Jonathan Turley, practicing defense attorney and law professor, told Fox News Digital.

"The continuation of the gag order seems untethered from any compelling rationale, particularly in light of the election," he said.

CNN’s Harry Enten did a deep dive, and it appears to have freaked out some members of the liberal media. After years of assuming robust support for the Democratic Party would remain among black voters, those under 50 are drifting away from Joe Biden in droves. He was ahead by 80 points in 2020 with this voter bloc; it’s now 37. Sure, it's a healthy advantage, but that’s a massive drop in four years. Also, no one expects Trump to win black voters outright, but breaking 20 percent, where the former president sits right now, is game-changing.

 

Even worse, there’s no sign that this trend could be reversed. Biden doesn’t have the political skills or the mental capacity to lead a full-blown, all-out blitz to push back against the narrative that his presidency is one of all-time disappointment and chaos. It’s theatrics-heavy but light on policy and governing. Voters are seeing that now, with the numerous instances of Biden short-circuiting. Eighty-six percent think he’s too old to run again. That figure is nearly impossible to whittle down to manageable levels, and Democrats don’t have the time. Read more and see videos here.

...Basically, in one way or another we all were victims of what Anthony Fauci...aka Mr. “Gain of Function Research” or simply "Mr. Jab"...knew was a genetically engineered and manipulated virus ...a virus he in some way helped to create. And now not only has Fauci lied under oath about his doing so, not to be forgotten is that earlier this year Fauci also took it upon himself to place blame for the actual pandemic itself on what he deemed to be “serious failures” in America’s public health system. 

Just another in a long list of Democrat shills who blame everyone and everything but themselves. Another typical Democrat with a decidedly partisan agenda who relished in spewing what he well knew was false and misleading information...spewing it to a public too scared to question the word of a doctor as being anything but Gospel truth.   

 

But for me, and hopefully for many others, this most needed and necessary of hearings proved that Anthony Fauci is neither a man of science nor medicine, and should..I believe...be immediately stripped of the honorable title of “doctor”...Read entire article and see video here.
