GOP Senator Moves to Defund DHS' Disinformation Hit Squad
Matt Vespa / Townhall Tipsheet

It has no shot of success but something has to be done. Something has to be said. I’m not a big moral victories guy since our side decided in the McCain-Romney days that those would suffice. It didn’t. That’s partially why Trump won in 2016. This disinformation secret police the Department of Homeland Security is establishing is beyond outrageous. It won’t overreach they said. Really? The government literally has no standing here—no credibility. Everything in DC has been weaponized to attack the enemies of the political class. Every agency with law enforcement capabilities or the ability to jail people has been used to go after conservatives for the past decade or so. It started with Obama. It’s coming back to finish the job with Biden. The IRS and DOJ are compromised. They’re long gone. Now, the DHS is next.

This hit squad is being assembled ahead of the 2022 midterms. That’s not why your sucking, Joe. It’s not why your party is sucking. You just have a terrible agenda. Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) is seeking to gut this little Gestapo operation (via Fox News):

Oh, So That’s Why Biden’s Been Using That Fake White House Set
Spencer Brown – TownhallTipsheet

As Townhall has frequently highlighted, President Joe Biden almost always appears in a fake Oval Office/White House set that was built in an auditorium adjacent to the actual West Wing, raising questions about why the normal spaces used by presidents past weren’t being used by Biden and other administration officials.

There was speculation that it was some COVID mitigation protocol, some White House sources said it was due to a lack of space for larger events with multiple officials, but it turns out Biden has been kept out of the Oval Office because the administration cannot permanently install a teleprompter there — according to a new report from Politico.

As their story on potential 2024 matchups notes in something of a buried lede: .the White House has largely abandoned using the Oval Office for press events in part because it can’t be permanently equipped with a…Read more here.

Ukraine says more civilians rescued from Mariupol steelworks

The fight in the last Ukrainian stronghold of a city reduced to ruins by the Russian onslaught appeared increasingly desperate amid growing speculation that President Vladimir Putin wants to finish the battle for Mariupol so he can present a triumph to the Russian people in time for Monday’s Victory Day, the biggest patriotic holiday on the Russian calendar.

Some 2,000 Ukrainian fighters, by Russia’s most recent estimate, are holed up in a vast maze of tunnels and bunkers beneath Azovstal steelworks — and they have repeatedly refused to surrender. Ukraine said a few...Read more, see pictures and video here.

Chief Justice Roberts Has a Message For Those Trying to Sway the Bench's Decision-making
Leah Barkoukis / Townhall Tipsheet

Speaking Thursday at the 11th Circuit Judicial Conference meeting in Atlanta, Chief Justice John Roberts called the leak of the court’s opinion “absolutely appalling” but said it will not affect the bench’s decision-making.

“A leak of this sort — let’s assume that’s what it is — is absolutely appalling, and if the people behind it, or person behind it, thinks that it’s going to have an effect on our decision process, that’s absolutely foolish,” Roberts said. “We will go about doing our work as we would in any event, regardless of the leak.”

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court confirmed the draft opinion’s authenticity but cautioned it's not the final position.

The Fed Raises Interest Rates to Fight Inflation
 Madeline Leesman / Townhall Tipsheet

On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve increased its benchmark interest rate by half a percentage point, the largest since 2000, in response to 40-year record high inflation pressures.

In a statement released at 2 p.m., the Fed wrote that inflation, COVID-19 lockdowns in China, and Russia’s invasion into Ukraine have created economic hardship in the United States.

Although overall economic activity edged down in the first quarter, household spending and business fixed investment remained strong. Job gains have been robust in recent months, and the unemployment rate has declined substantially. Inflation remains elevated, reflecting supply and demand imbalances related to the pandemic, higher energy prices, and broader price pressures.

Manchin and Sinema Just Killed Democrat Hopes of Codifying Roe v. Wade
Spencer Brown – Townhall Tipsheet

This week, Democrat Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona dashed the hopes of their more radical colleagues amid renewed calls to pass a federal law that would overrule state limits or prohibitions on abortion.

Calls for slim Democrat majorities in the House and Senate to quickly advance a bill, the inaccurate and grossly named “Women’s Health Protection Act,” that would codify Roe v. Wade’s concocted right to abortion were swift. Almost a little too swift, perhaps, in the wake of an unprecedented leak from the Supreme Court that showed a draft opinion by Justice Samuel Alito overturning Roe. The bill was already passed by Speaker Pelosi’s Democrat caucus in the House of Representatives, but in order to get the legislation past the Senate and on to President Biden’s desk for signature, the bill would need to garner 60 votes in order to move…Read more here.
