What we know about Jack Teixeira and the leaked US intelligence docs

The FBI on Thursday arrested Jack Teixeira for allegedly leaking dozens of sensitive US intelligence documents in the biggest national security breach in at least a decade.

Here’s what we know about Teixeira and the leak:

Who is Jack Teixeira?

Teixeira, 21, is a Massachusetts Air National Guardsman, an enlisted member of the 102nd Intelligence Wing located at Joint Base Cape Cod.

Why was he arrested?

Teixeira was taken into custody on Thursday at his home in North Dighton, Mass., following the disclosure of sensitive information that pertained to the war in Ukraine — and detailed US intelligence gathering on allies like Israel and South Korea.

As law enforcement officials closed in on Teixeira, the young man read a book on his home’s patio, seemingly unaware of what was about to happen. Read more, see photos and video here.

Trump takes heat from right for saying he didn't 'hit' Newsom because Calif gov said nice things about him

Former President Donald Trump is receiving criticism from some on the right in the wake of comments he made in which he said he "could never hit" California Gov. Gavin Newsom because the liberal Democrat was "so nice to me."

"You have a very ambitious guy in California, but he’s done a terrible job with the state," Trump, who is also a 2024 presidential candidate, said in an interview on Fox News’ "Tucker Carlson Tonight." "I used to get along great with him when I was president. Got along really good ... Gavin."

"You got along with Gavin Newsom?" Carlson asked.

"I did. I really did. He was always very nice to me, said the greatest things. He would say things like, ‘He's doing a great job.’"

"About you?" Carlson said.

"About me, that's why I could never hit him because he was so nice to me, just laying in wait right?" Trump said. "But he was very nice to me, relatively speaking." Read more, see tweets and videos here.

Ex-White House Official: FBI Ignored Joe Biden’s Role in Shady Ukraine Business Dealings

The FBI reportedly ignored a hotline tip from a former White House aide about President Joe Biden's role in Ukraine business dealings. 

In February, former Obama White House stenographer Mike McCormick submitted a tip to the FBI saying he had exclusive information that the Biden family was involved in foreign business dealings. However, the FBI ignored it. 

Then-Vice President Biden traveled to Ukraine to boost the country's energy industry days after his son Hunter Biden joined the board of natural gas company Burisma in 2014. 

"Joe Biden committed crimes in Ukraine in a conspiracy with [current national security adviser] Jake Sullivan," McCormick told the New York Post. "I'm a witness to that happening."

On April 21, 2014, McCormick said that he was with Sullivan in the press cabin of Air Force Two as they made their way to Kyiv, as he summarized how the country's wealth would help corrupt Ukraine build up its gas industry.

White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby has revealed to Fox News on Wednesday that there is a "small U.S. military presence" at the American embassy in Ukraine. 

"There has been no change to the president's mandate that there will not be American troops in Ukraine fighting in this war," he said. 

Speaking about the U.S.’s interactions with allies in the wake of the leaks, Kirby said "we are making overt attempts to reach out to the relevant allies and partners to explain to them as best we know what we know.

"And we don't know a lot right now, but to make sure that they understand we're taking this very, very seriously, that we've got a criminal investigation going on, as well as a review across the Department of Defense to look at the national security implications and of course, where we're listening to their questions....Read more and see video here. 

PolitiFact Just Can't Get Over How Ron DeSantis Is Right

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who is expected to announce he is running for president in the coming months, just keeps getting under fact-checkers' skin. As our friends at Twitchy highlighted, this includes PolitiFact, which rated comments from DeSantis about Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg as "true," yet still couldn't help themselves from coming after him.

The fact-check mentions it is specifically addressing DeSantis' remarks that Bragg "has downgraded over 50% of the felonies to misdemeanors," as mentioned during a March 20 press conference. Not long after, a Manhattan grand jury indicted former and potentially future President Donald Trump on charges brought forth by Bragg. It was later revealed that Bragg was bringing forth 34 felony charges against Trump in an unprecedented move, despite how charges could have been brought as misdemeanors, and there being an expired statue of limitations.
