Ukraine war: Putin warns against foreign intervention

Any country trying to intervene in the Ukraine war will face a "lightning-fast" response, Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned.

"We have all the tools no-one can boast of... we will use them if necessary", he said, in what is seen as a reference to ballistic missiles and nuclear arms.

Ukraine's allies have stepped up the supply of weapons, with the US vowing to make sure Ukraine defeats Russia. Western officials say Russia is being hampered in its efforts in the east.

Last week, Russia launched a major offensive to seize the Donbas region after withdrawing from areas around the capital Kyiv. But according to one official, Russian forces are "finding it difficult to overcome the staunch Ukrainian resistance and they are suffering losses".

In another development, the European Commission has accused Russia of blackmail after Moscow cut off gas exports to Poland and Bulgaria. The Commission's President, Ursula von der Leyen said it showed Russia's "unreliability"... Read more and see video here.

Pro-Abortion Senators Tank Marco Rubio's Joint Resolution to Overturn Biden's Rule on Title X Family Planning

Last month, Townhall received an exclusive first look at a joint resolution Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced in the U.S. Senate and Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. Using the Congressional Review Act (CRA), the resolution would have overturned the Biden administration's 2021 Final Rule for Title X family planning funds. Thanks to the Biden administration overturning the 2019 Final Rule under the Trump administration which was also known as the "Protect Life" rule, funds now go to providers that perform or refer for abortions. Thanks to 49 Senators--most of them Democrats--they will continue to do so, as the resolution failed on Wednesday night.

A press release soon after from the senator's office highlighted how "Rubio Slams Senate Democrats for Failure to Protect Life."

After the resolution failed, Sen. Rubio issued a strong statement, which also contained reassurances about his stance on the issue. EXCLUSIVE: RSC Chairman Jim Banks, Rep. Greg Steube File Discharge Petition to Protect Women's Sports

While Democrats celebrate Title IX, as they did last month for the 50th anniversary, their priorities show it has amounted to empty words. On Tuesday, however, Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Banks (R-IN) and Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) filed a discharge petition for Rep. Stuebe's bill, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2021. This will give the Title IX protections some real teeth.

The discharge petition would force Steube's bill to come to the House floor to be considered if 218 members were to sign onto it. If all 209 Republican members signed on, nine Democratic members would also need to sign on.

The bill, which was introduced by Rep. Steuebe on January 21, 2021, aims "To provide that for purposes of determining compliance with title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 in athletics, sex shall be recognized based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth."

National Guard Builds Border Fencing as Biden Lets Border Wall Rot

Eagle Pass, TX - Upon taking office in January 2021, President Joe Biden halted construction on the U.S. southern border wall, which greatly helps Border Patrol and local law enforcement cut down on illegal activity. As a result the Texas National Guard, deployed last summer through Governor Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star, has stepped in to fill the gaps with fencing lined with concertina or razor wire. 

“When you drive a tank through a chainlink fence, if it has concertina wire on top, it’ll stop that tank because that wire will get wrapped up on the sprocket, the wheels of the tank. And I always say that to people because they’re like, ‘Well, anybody can get through this fence.’ And I’m like, well actually, I would be hesitant to drive a tank through it...I usually say that when I’m debating someone on walls or fences or barriers if you will,” Texas National Guard Public Affairs Officer Major Michael Perry told Townhall. “The wall works.” Read more here.

Governor DeSantis Puts Teeth on Election Security

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a law on Monday aimed at ensuring the Sunshine State's elections are secure. Officially known as Senate Bill 524, the new law instructs Florida's election officials to take further steps to ensure voter rolls are up-to-date, provides for more transparency in elections and stiffer penalties for fraud, and creates a new office to investigate alleged election irregularities. 

 

The Office of Election Crimes and Security, as it will be called, falls under the Florida Department of State and has multiple duties. In addition to "receiving and reviewing notices and reports generated by government officials or any other person regarding alleged occurrences of election law violations or election irregularities," the office will launch "independent inquiries" and conduct "preliminary investigations into allegations." The Office of Election Crimes and Security will also oversee the Florida Department of State's "voter fraud hotline," and complete annual reports to be sent to Florida's governor and legislative leaders. Elon Musk Officially Buys Twitter; Libs in Full Blown Meltdown

The world’s richest man, Elon Musk, counts Tesla, SpaceX, and now Twitter among his business ventures after the social media company’s board reversed its previous position to accept the tech innovator’s offer to purchase the company at $54.20 per share.

Just before 3:00 p.m. ET, shares were halted and shortly thereafter, the completed deal was announced in a press release from Twitter:

Twitter, Inc. today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by an entity wholly owned by Elon Musk, for $54.20 per share in cash in a transaction valued at approximately $44 billion. Upon completion of the transaction, Twitter will become a privately held company.

Under the terms of the agreement, Twitter stockholders will receive $54.20 in cash for each share of Twitter common stock that they own uponclosing of the proposed transaction. Read more here.
