Since 2000, the percentage of Americans who believe that
gun ownership makes their homes safer has nearly doubled, according to
a Gallup poll released Friday.A mere 35 percent of Americans believed having a gun in the house was an added safety measure in 2000, while the majority (50 percent) thought it made households more dangerous. Now the tables have completely turned. Today, six in 10 Americans back owning a gun for safety, while only 30 percent believe it is dangerous.
What’s more, members of every political party are warming to the idea of gun ownership.
Republicans show the largest growth (37-percentage points since 2000) followed closely by Independents (29-point increase) and lastly Democrats (13-point growth).
Curiously, despite the sharp turn in ideology, the average number of Americans who own a gun (42 percent) has hardly wavered over the past 14 years. Perhaps this will change as the benefits of the Second Amendment are more widely acknowledged.
There is some science addressing this issue. A good thing to review if you happen to be suspicious of the accuracy of public opinion when analyzing this issue.

Sure, they can be a safety measure...but more guns ≠ a safer country. you might be protected against some idiot breaking into your house, but if that same idiot wants to cause a school shooting, more guns means he'll have abetter chance of succeeding.

As long as the public schools {or any where else are " so called gun free zones" then it is obvious thta any idot can do as they will... A gun is just a tool it all comes down to how it is used and the knowledge on proper safe training that count! Same with a chainsaw, or other power tool..
DeleteYeah…but you love it or you would not keep coming back for more! I am still waiting for facts that show white people murder more with guns than black people do. I have been looking for ANYTHING to prove that blacks are better at ANYTHING than whites, but the only thing I can find is that they seem to be better at killing themselves – well…mainly innocent black children who happen to get in the way of a stray bullet. You see…the problem lies in how stupid black thugs shoot the gun, they hold the gun in what I would call a ghetto style (arms stretched out with the pistol held sideways instead of upright) which causes the bullets to jam and also decreases the accuracy of the shot. Sadly, an outstanding Negro was shot in St. Louis using this tactic; his mother said he only had a sandwich in his hand. I guess the white police officer did not realize the brother was eating an exploding sandwich. The new mantra among blacks will change from hands up – don’t shoot to sandwich in hand – don’t shoot.
ReplyDeleteSome think I am a racist, I sincerely love all people of the world, and when I heard about Trayvon and Michael’s death, I shed a tear knowing that one more fine outstanding citizen would not become a hero to mankind. Trayvon could have discovered the cure of cancer; Michael could have written a rap song that united all people of the world. Arabs would embrace Jews and whites embrace blacks! Black men would put down their exploding sandwiches for a more docile sandwich! Michael Brown’s mother would let Michael’s Grandmother sell “Michael Brown” tee shirts without assaulting her and telling her “you can’t sell that shit”. Black men would stop the knock out game against white people; they would cease to kill little children and raping white women. All of this is now gone, Michael could have ended it with a simple rap song called “where da hoes?”
You know, I said I was searching for anything to prove blacks were better than whites. Turn on your TV and ALL blacks are shown as clean, intelligent, articulate and fine outstanding citizens. Even Michael Brown was portrayed on TV as a peaceful giant. It’s on TV so it MUST be true! Notice I have NOT used the N word in any of my statements above; therefore it is not racist. What I have written is verifiable facts; the part of Michael and Trayvon becoming fine outstanding citizens was fantasy, but only because they are not around anymore to prove they would do otherwise.
