Jan. 6: Trump hits back, saying Biden trying to 'further divide America' to distract from failures
Trump called Biden's Jan. 6 speech 'political theater' that is a 'distraction for the fact Biden has completely and totally failed'

Former President Donald Trump responded to President Biden's sharp criticism in a Jan. 6 speech, saying his Democratic successor is trying to distract from his record.

Biden "used my name today to try to further divide America," Trump said in a statement. "This political theater is all just a distraction for the fact Biden has completely and totally failed."

BIDEN IN JAN. 6 SPEECH SHARPLY CRITICIZES TRUMP AS SPREADING ‘WEB OF LIES,’ STOKING RIOT

"Our Country no longer has Borders, has totally and completely lost control of Covid (record numbers!), is no longer Energy Independent, Inflation is rampant, our Military is in chaos, and our exit, or surrender, from Afghanistan was perhaps the most embarrassing day in the long and distinguished history of the United States—and so much more," Trump continued.

Voting rights: Schumer says the Senate will vote on a package of Senate rules changes by Jan. 17 — less than two weeks away.

Democratic Senate candidates put changing the filibuster front and center
Paul Steinhauser | Fox NewsRep. Conor Lamb of Pennsylvania’s upping his game.

The moderate Democrat from western Pennsylvania who’s running in a very competitive Senate primary for the Keystone State’s GOP-held open seat is vowing to vote to scrap the Senate’s legislative filibuster if he’s elected.

“I will vote to end the filibuster. Republicans are abusing it to block voting rights & endanger our democracy. To block health care & child care & union protections,” the U.S. Marine veteran, former assistant U.S. attorney, and two-term congressman argued this week on Twitter. “We have to win this Senate seat to end the filibuster. I can win & help get it done. It’s that simple.”

With his announcement, Lamb now joins Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, and Montgomery County board of commissioners chair Val Arkoosh – three of his top rivals for his state’s Democratic Senate nomination – in pushing to scrap the legislative… Read more, see tweet, and video here.

Oh No: Do We Have ANOTHER COVID Variant Emerging in France?
Matt Vespa / Townhall Tipsheet

Here we go again. The pandemic isn't meant to be over, right? It's meant to be continuous, even as the virus has mutated into something that's much less lethal than the original strain or the past Delta variant. Omicron is surging in the US, but it's very mild, and early studies show that it spares the lungs, which is very good news. The bad news is that it's more contagious but that's a tradeoff I'll accept, I guess. Still, the liberal media, the Democrats, and some in the medical expert community are still packaging the fear porn. It sells. It gets them on television, especially MSNBC and CNN. It's a circus.

Now, we might have a new variant emerging in France (via Fox 11 Los Angeles):

A new COVID-19 variant has been detected in France. The variant has been named IHU. It was found to have infected 12 people living in an area near Marseille, a port city in southern France.

Health officials found that IHU has 46 mutations. That is even more mutations than were found in omicron. The cases have been linked to travel to the African country Cameroon. Read more here.

Texas Sues Biden Administration Over Vaccine Mandate for National Guard
Leah Barkoukis / Townhall Tipsheet

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sued the Biden administration on Tuesday over the requirement that National Guard members get the Covid-19 vaccine.

"As the commander-in-chief of Texas’s militia, I have issued a straightforward order to every member of the Texas National Guard within my chain of command: Do not punish any guardsman for choosing not to receive a COVID-19 vaccine," the Republican governor said in a letter to the Texas Military Department announcing his plan to sue the federal government.

"Unless President Biden federalizes the Texas National Guard in accordance with Title 10 of the U.S. Code, he is not your commander-in-chief under our federal or state Constitutions. And as long as I am your commander-in-chief, I will not tolerate efforts to compel receipt of a COVID-19 vaccine,” he added. “Let me be crystal clear: It is the federal government that has put Texas’s guardsmen in this difficult position. As your commander-in-chief, I will fight on your behalf. That is why I am suing the Biden Administration over its latest unconstitutional vaccine mandate." Read more here.
