Many could only imagine the horrors the 53-year-old endured during his 491 days in the hands of terrorists, forced underground into a dark, airless tunnel, and starved and deprived of basic necessities.
Others wondered how much he knew about the atrocities committed in his community of Kibbutz Be’eri and beyond on October 7 or if he was aware that his British-Israeli wife, Lianne, and their teenage daughters, Noiya and Yahel, had been murdered or that his beloved brother, Yossi, also from Be’eri, had been held hostage and later killed.
Sharabi, who since his release has fought tirelessly to see the remaining hostages freed, fills in many of those blanks in his captivating and horrifying memoir, Hostage (Harper Collins), which was published in English in time for the second anniversary of October 7.

The Democrat blasted Trump’s “invasion” hours after the president mobilized 300 California National Guard members to Portland, where unrest has raged for over 100 consecutive days outside an immigration detention center — a scene that has been playing out in Chicago since September.
Pritzker said the plan defies his wishes, adding that federal officials haven’t reached out to coordinate or discuss the deployment.
“We must now start calling this what it is: Trump’s Invasion,” the governor said in a post on X, encouraging “every American to speak up and help stop this madness.”
“It started with federal agents, it will soon include deploying federalized members of the Illinois National Guard against our wishes, and it will not involve sending in another state’s military troops. I call on [Texas] Governor [Greg] Abbott to immediately withdraw any support for this decision and refuse to coordinate.” Read more here.

Pipelines deep beneath Ukraine’s surface could help funnel fuel either drilled in the country through the US-Ukraine mineral deal or shipped in from the US, Ukrainian Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk told The Post.
The potential partnership means American oil companies could replace Moscow in Europe’s energy sector.
“Ukraine’s gas and oil infrastructure has always been a key part of European energy security because Ukrainian territory was like a transit from Russia to Europe — and we have very, very good gas and oil infrastructure,” Grynchuk said.
“The US and other international partners could use this infrastructure for ensuring European energy security by supplying it and also the storage potential of gas and oil in Ukraine.”
Ukraine has the most liquid natural gas storage in all of Europe. Read more here.
