When I came to Washington years ago, I had a revolutionary glimmer in my eye. I hated big government and I wanted to join a political movement to dismantle it.

That was a long time ago, yet sometimes that rage kicks in when I read about the creeping socialism that is slowly destroying America.

The Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) put out a study today titled “Ten Thousand Commandments – An Annual Snapshot of the Federal Regulatory State.” The results will make you spitting mad.

The author Wayne Crews, Vice President for Policy at CEI, found that federal regulation cost $1.88 trillion in 2014 in lost economic productivity and high prices. This breaks down to about $14,976 per household and 29% of an average family budget.

Think about it this way. The U.S. economy is expected to produce about $17 trillion this year in output, yet it would be more if the government didn’t hammer the private sector with the hidden tax of regulations. Regulations are exporting jobs from America to countries with fewer regulations.

When left wing millionaire candidates like Hillary Clinton make believe they want to be a “champion” for the middle class, they never talk about taking action to spur economic growth. They dare not talk about reducing regulations and shrinking government. They always play the class warfare card and pit average America against the evil super rich.

On the one-year anniversary of the panel’s creation, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), Chairman on the House Select Committee on Benghazi, has released his preliminary report on the investigation’s progress. In a press release, the committee noted that the biggest problem concerning wrapping this investigation up is the uncooperativeness of the Obama White House.

“I am proud of what a professional team of investigators, committed to uncovering all the facts has been able to accomplish since the committee was created,” said Gowdy, in the press release statement. “But while progress has been made, the greatest impediment to completing this investigation in a timely manner has been the level of cooperation by the executive branch. We look forward to completing our work in manner that is worthy of the sacrifice made by the four men who died and trust of our fellow Americans.”

Here are some of the highlights of the 15-page report [emphasis mine]:
  • The Committee has reviewed a substantial volume of information previously produced to the House and has requested and received new information. More than 20,000 pages of emails and documents never before released to Congress have been produced by the State Department.” (pp. 1-2)
  • “In addition, hundreds of pages of emails never before seen by Congress have been produced by the White House. The Department of Justice and the Intelligence Community have also produced documents. Further, the Committee has interviewed State Department and CIA personnel, including survivors of the Benghazi terrorist attacks who had never been interviewed by previous committees, as well as others who have been able to provide indispensable firsthand details of the U.S. presence in Benghazi, Libya.” (p. 2)

Michigan: Muslim publisher says Pamela Geller is “worse than ISIS”
Watch for the Vast Majority of Peaceful Muslims to rise up and denounce Osama Siblani, the publisher of Arab American News, and affirm their disgust with the Islamic State (ISIS) and support for Pamela Geller’s freedom of speech. Watch for them to excoriate Siblani for his hateful and inflammatory rhetoric, especially at a time when […]

OK guys this is very important. Pamela needs our help and I am helping to spread her message. Please join me in 'Standing Strong With Pamela'...our 1st Amendment rights and her life are in jeopardy. Thanks.

From Pamela Geller:

Look. I am sure you have heard about what happened in Garland, Texas. Two jihadists wanted to replicate and ramp up what happened in Paris, by murdering scores of patriotic Americans who were standing in defense of free speech. They were met with an utterly authentic response. The media has been waging jihad against the defenders of freedom, primarily me, but that's only a device they are using to destroy anyone who speaks against the sharia and jihad. In the wake of our Muhammad Art Exhibit and Cartoon Contest, ISIS issued a death threat against me. They called me khanzaar -- pig -- which is the word Muhammad used of his victims before he slaughtered Jews. They threatened to murder also anyone associated with me, anyone who defends me, and anyone who supports our work.
In other words, they've declared war against America.

The media, on the other hand, is aligned with the jihad force. They're cheering and agitating for my demise -- some news outlets have even asked me for my posthumous remarks. They have been viciously attacking me and Robert Spencer, blaming us for the attack on us.

They are not going to win. We are not going to let them win. If we had a responsible media, it would report on the positive developments in light of this terrorist attack: the jihadists were killed. By drawing them out, we exposed their network, without getting anyone killed. The FBI is now going after sources. They are gleaning intel from their computers as we speak. We smoked out a terror structure. The FBI has put more American terror suspects under constant surveillance following the deadly attack. Every city across the U.S. has "subjects of concern" under heightened scrutiny, and the military is taking the threat seriously enough to raise the threat level to Bravo -- the highest level since 9/11. The terror network that hit us has now expanded to include roots in Minneapolis.

People say we "provoked" the jihadis. But it has since come out that they were already looking for targets to hit. If they hadn't hit us, they would have hit a much less protected target, as did the jihadist Amedy Coulibaly in the Hyper Cacher kosher supermarket in Paris, and the jihadist Man Haron Monis in the Lindt Chocolat Cafe in Sydney, Australia. The jihadis in Garland weren't provoked by us -- they are already provoked. Our event just smoked them out. If we had not had such extensive security, many more people would have died -- either at our event or somewhere else. Instead, the only dead were two jihadis, and a jihad network is exposed.

All that from one little art exhibit.

An American disaster almost always happens when my wife and I are on our post-tax season vacation. Just to name a few, we have Columbine, Virginia Tech and Oklahoma City. The only good thing that happened while we were out of the country was we were in Capri when Bin Laden was killed. Having what happened in Baltimore unfortunately fits into our travel experience.

When one is out of the country, there is a different view of whatever is going on back in the States.

First, this is because you are on foreign soil and you interact with people differently. Second, on vacation you have more time to ponder things when not confronted with life’s normal day-to-day challenges. Therefore, one might experience more clarity than at home in America.

My first thought was – Not again. Really? Does someone really think that burning and looting your local neighborhood is going to get you somewhere? It might have had some benefit in the 60’s, but don’t you think it has become a little passé and counterproductive? As Rodney King said “Can’t we all just get along?” To think that because of a potential injustice done to one black man that the vast majority of these rioters even have a clue is clueless unto itself.

At least this time President Obama made some strong comments condemning the actions of these hooligans. But that was counterbalanced by him lurching into ad hominem utterances about how we as a society need to come up with solutions. At least he was vastly superior to the idiot mayor of Baltimore who stated the rioters should be given space to destroy.

Shocker: WaPo Writer, NYT Editorial Board Amazingly Wrong About Free Speech

Matt Vespa / Townhall Tipsheet

Since the Garland shootings, we’ve entered into this debate about hate speech, free speech, so-called responsible speech, and abuse of free speech. In all, it’s a rather horrific cocktail of double standards, idiocy, and political correctness. Hate speech is free speech; that is beyond dispute. Neo-Nazis can hold their rallies just as those who preach tolerance and respect. You can burn the flag and stomp on it all you want; just don’t be surprised if an angry bystander rips into you, especially if that person is a military veteran. Now, that’s not to say don’t do these things, but be prepared to defend your actions.

I don’t agree with Bill Maher much, but he’s absolutely right when it comes to First Amendment issues. His episode of Real Time this week featured the Blaze’s Will Cain saying that freedom of speech and expression is a “non-negotiable” aspect of Western society. He’s right. Sadly, some folks at the Washington Post and the New York Times have different opinions.

Columnist Kathleen Parker went so far as to say that Geller is abusing free speech:
Geller’s contribution to these protections and our unwavering dedication to its preservation is, exactly, what? A taunt. Shouldn’t one at least aspire to some originality?
It’s been done. And each time, the result is the same. You haul out a picture of Muhammad; “they” haul out a fatwa. Cat puts out cheese; mouse gets eaten. What does one expect?
Indeed, two would-be terrorists presented themselves at the exhibition and were quickly dispatched to their just rewards.
Well, that’s two down, I suppose.

6 Reasons Pamela Geller’s Muhammad Cartoon Contest Is No Different From Selma
“In 1965, defying racist Democrats posed a legitimate threat to your life. In 2015, defying jihadists poses a legitimate threat to your life. Martin Luther King knowingly risked his life. Pamela Geller knowingly risks her life.” This piece is brilliant in its clarity. Leftists and Islamic supremacists have, of course, reduced it to “Nolte likens […]
