Biden Has 'No Comment' on Trump's Indictment
Madeline Leesman / Townhall Tipsheet

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Friday, Biden said he has “no comment” on former President Donald Trump being indicted by a Manhattan grand jury. This is the first time Biden was questioned in public about Trump’s case.

“Are you worried this will further divide our country? The indictment?” a reporter asked Biden.

“I have no comment on that,” the president responded.

“Are you also worried about possible protest in the wake of the indictment?” another reporter asked, alluding to the fact the Trump previously urged his supporters to protest and to “take our country back” if he were arrested.

“No, I’m not going to talk about Trump’s indictment,” Biden said.

Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked Biden if he thinks “that the charges against Trump are politically motivated.”

“I have no comment on Trump,” Biden answered. Read more and see video here.

The Indictment Reeks
Guy Benson / Townhall Tipsheet

Apparently the leaks about the Manhattan grand jury being done with the Trump case for a month amounted to a head fake, deliberate or otherwise. Donald Trump went from predicting his own arrest a few weekends ago to publicly praising the grand jurors ("gained such respect"), apparently under the belief that they'd decided not to pursue charges. Yesterday afternoon, I asked a legal guest on my radio show if that was unwisely premature on Trump's part, considering that the grand jury pool was almost certainly stacked with people who hate him, with an outcome still unclear. A few hours later, the indictment was announced. Trump's 'great respect' warm and fuzzies instantly vanished, in favor a statement of outrage.

Whatever you think of Trump, the indictment reeks. The fact that it's been sought is plainly and outrageously political, no matter how hard certain media outlets gaslight. With the caveat that it's currently sealed, and we haven't seen all of its substance, it's thus far been widely and rightly seen as a...Read more and see tweets here.

IRS says average tax refund is 11% smaller than last year - here's why
IRS issued about 53M tax refunds as of mid-March, but some taxpayers could be in for a shock
/ FOXBusiness

With the 2023 tax season coming to an end in just a few weeks, the Internal Revenue Service is reminding taxpayers to brace for a smaller refund this year.

The IRS said that it has issued about 53 million refunds as of March 17, worth a collective $158.1 billion. The average refund check so far this year is worth $2,933 – about 11% lower compared to the $3,305 average recorded last year.

The decrease in refund size can be concerning to millions of Americans who depend on the influx of money from Uncle Sam to make major purchases, save for retirement or pay off debt. On top of that, millions of taxpayers are still struggling with the worst inflation bout in a generation that has sent the cost of staples like food, rent and gasoline soaring higher.

A recent survey from Bankrate found that about 75% of adults who expect to receive a tax refund this year believe the money is important to their overall financial situation. About 43% said the refund is "very important," compared to 32% who described it as "somewhat important."

U.S. Marshals Were Told Not to Arrest Violent Protestors Outside of Supreme Court Justice's House
Sarah Arnold / Townhall Tipsheet

U.S. Marshals assigned to guard the Supreme Court Justice's home following the aftermath of Roe v. Wade being overturned last year were reportedly told not to make any arrests of violent protestors.

According to training documents obtained by the office of Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala), "unless absolutely necessary," criminal enforcement action involving the protest or protestors, particularly in public space, was to be avoided.

Previously, Attorney General Merrick Garland claimed that U.S. Marshals "have full authority to arrest people under any federal statute, including that federal statute." However, the training documents suggested that the Department of Justice lawyers believed applying the statute to peaceful protests directed at the justices would violate the First Amendment.

Washington Post: It's 'Startling' How Many Arrests Aren't Prosecuted in D.C.
Spencer Brown / Townhall Tipsheet

As Townhall covered extensively earlier this spring, Washington, D.C.'s City Council attempted to force through a rewrite of the criminal code governing the nation's capital that would have lessened penalties, downgraded serious crimes, and changed how the city carried out justice. The liberal D.C. Council passed its overhaul, then Mayor Muriel Bowser, a Democrat, vetoed the measure. The D.C. Council, however, overrode Bowser's veto in a nearly unanimous vote.

Congress, however, stepped in and used its authority to reject the new D.C. criminal code and — after botching his response to it and leaving more than 100 House Democrats out to dry on the vote — President Biden did not veto their resolution to strike down the D.C. Council's rewrite of the city's criminal code.

Even though law and order advocates might have been heartened that the D.C. Council's attempt to reduce penalties was unsuccessful, it turns...Read more and see tweet here.
