Historic Move: Trump Halts $5B in Foreign Assistance Through Pocket Rescission
Dmitri Bolt / Townhall Tipsheet

President Trump is moving to block $5 billion in foreign aid, using a method that hasn't been tried since 1977, known as a "pocket recission," according to an exclusive report by The New York Post.

On Thursday night, he asked Congress to cancel those federal funds, which had been released from a court case in the DC Circuit Court of Appeals earlier that same day. This type of request is called a “pocket rescission.” A pocket rescission occurs when the president submits a request so late in the fiscal year (which ends on September 30) that the money effectively gets canceled, regardless of the circumstances. Even if Congress does not approve the request, the funds will expire before they can be spent.

The rescission targets several major areas of foreign assistance. It blocks $3.2 billion designated for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), along with $322 million from the joint USAID–State Department Democracy Fund. It also eliminates $521 million in State Department contributions to...Read more and see X here.

Trump Eyes Pre-Midterm Convention to Cement GOP Majorities
Dmitri Bolt / Townhall Tipsheet

President Donald Trump is considering holding a Republican National Convention ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

"The Republican Party is doing really well. Millions of people have joined us in our quest to MAKE AMERICA, GREAT AGAIN. We won every aspect of the Presidential Election and, based on the great success we are having, are poised to WIN BIG IN THE MIDTERMS. We have raised far more money than the Democrats, and are having a great time fixing all of the Country Destroying mistakes made by the Biden Administration, and watching the USA heal and prosper. The results are incredible, a record pace!!! In that light, I am thinking of recommending a National Convention to the Republican Party, just prior to the Midterms. It has never been done before. STAY TUNED!!! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" Read more and see X here.

Which Democrat Will Merge Into the 2028 Sane Lane?
The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of

Supposedly, the tiresome comedy stylings of Gavin Newsom – he’s the equivalent of a Wednesday night prop comic opener down at the Gooberville Giggle Works – have thrust him into the forefront of the Democrat race for the 2028 nomination. What a sad and pathetic state of affairs that is. He’s trying to claim the Fighter Lane. You see, he fights by hiring a couple of they/them mediocrities to run his social media account, pumping out an endless series of tweets that are nearly as funny as leprosy. They are directed at Trump, who ignores them; if a nitwit tweets in the forest, does it make a sound? This is fighting in the eyes of the Democrat activist class; this is pathetic in the eyes of normal people.

A lot of them are trying to crowd into the Fighter Lane. We need somebody who’s going to fight the perilous peril that is Donald Trump and his authoritarian authoritarianism that’s literally fascist Nazism! Of course, the fighting is entirely performance art. You’ve got Pete Buttigieg out there promising....Read more here.

Trump ignites conservative backlash after opening door to 600,000 Chinese students: 'What is this madness?'
Conservative voices oppose proposal to allow 600,000 Chinese nationals into American universities
Cameron Arcand / Fox News

President Donald Trump’s plan to allow 600,000 Chinese student visas to be issued sparked backlash from the right on Monday and Tuesday.

"I hear so many stories that we're not going to allow their students," Trump told reporters as trade talks with China are ongoing.

"We're going to allow their students to come in. It's very important, 600,000 students. It's very important. But we're going to get along with China," he continued.

Trump expanded on his comments during a Cabinet meeting at the White House on Tuesday.

"I think it's very insulting to say students can't come here because they'll go out and start building schools and they'll be able to survive it. But I like that their students come here. I like that other countries' students come here. And you know what would happen if they didn't? Our college system would go to hell very quickly. And it wouldn't be the top colleges, so it'd be colleges that struggle on the...Read more and see video here.

SCOTUS Justices Torch Rogue Judges for Defying Their Rulings
Jeff Charles / Townhall Tipsheet

Two Supreme Court justices issued a scathing warning to lower courts seeking to subvert the high court’s rulings amid ongoing lawfare battles with the Trump administration.

Since five seconds after Trump took office, his administration has faced several legal challenges to his policies. A considerable portion of the battles have made it to the Supreme Court. But it appears some courts believe they can simply ignore SCOTUS rulings they don’t like.

Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, both Trump appointees, criticized these courts for flouting the Supreme Court’s authority.

From CNN:

"A growing sense of frustration with some lower courts — articulated in terms that at times sound similar to Trump’s own rhetoric — has crept into a series of opinions this summer from the Supreme Court’s conservative justices as they juggle a flood of emergency cases dealing with Trump’s second term...Read more and see X here.
