A special day to honor American heroes
By: Diane Sori
I've been asked to re-post a special tribute (with some updates) I wrote and posted last Memorial Day as remembrances and honor become even more important with all that is going on with this traitorous administration and the VA...
What is a hero...a hero is man or woman of distinguished
courage or ability, admired for his or her brave deeds, fortitude, and noble qualities.
In other words...a Soldier, Sailor, Marine or Airman.
Today is Memorial Day, a day to remember and honor all those
brave heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in our nation's service...a
special day where a grateful nation says thank you.
Memorial Day is also a day to honor and say thank you to our
Veterans, those heroes who by the grace of God made it home, who are sometimes
forgotten in the shuffle of everyday life.
This Memorial Day we must not forget to keep our brave men
and women who are currently fighting overseas in our thoughts and prayers for
they are the ones who are now keeping us safe and free at home.
A little history...Memorial Day started as a day to honor
Union soldiers who died during the Civil War. After World War I it was extended
to include all men and women who died in any war or military action. Known originally as Decoration Day, the
current name did not come into being until after World War II. Decoration Day
and then Memorial Day were always on May 30th, regardless of the day of the week. In 1968, the Uniform Holidays Bill was passed
as part of a move to use federal holidays to create three-day weekends. Since 1971, Memorial Day has been officially
observed on the last Monday in May.
On Memorial Day it’s tradition to fly the American flag at
half-mast from dawn until noon. Many
volunteers place a small American flag on the graves of the fallen who are laid
to rest in national cemeteries all across our country. Also, in many cities and towns across
America, Memorial Day Parades honor both the fallen and those serving in our
military today.
While today there will be picnics, barbecues, and parties
galore, please don’t forget that while you are having fun and enjoying the day,
that what you are doing was only made possible by those who sacrificed their
lives in the name of freedom.
So now I leave you with this, 'A Soldiers Prayer,' whose words
really honor ALL who’ve served.
A Soldier's Prayer...

The soldier stood and faced his God which must always come
to pass...
He hoped his shoes were shining just as brightly as his
brass."Step forward now, you soldier, how shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't...
Because those of us who carry guns can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays and at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent, because the streets are awfully tough.
But, I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills got just too steep,
And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here...
They never wanted me around except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much, but if you don't, I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod...
As the soldier waited quietly, for the judgment of his God,
"Step forward now you soldier,
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."
I thank each service person for their service. Although we don't have a Soviet Union anymore, we still have Russia and China and radical islam.
ReplyDeleteI was about to say I hope those who were killed or maimed did not suffer in vain, but they didn't. There are still many people who appreciate their service and honor them on this day.
America has changed for about the last 20 to 25 years, maybe even before that! It has become a godless society except for some who continue to keep their high morals and faith. With this loss of faith comes the "me" generations; those people who think only of themselves.
Just recently I read of a lad in California who killed several college students because he couldn't get a date. The lad's father blamed the NRA and gun control on the problem. I might also mention the lad killed three other people that day with a knife as well.
I see two problems with that scenario:
A. The lad was obviously mentally ill.
B. The lad did not have the moral compass he needed.
His last words were: since I am going to die, I'm going to take out some pretty blond girls who rejected me as well. See the problem? He was not thinking about anything other than himself!
The typical leftist response is to blame others for your own failings. His father (a leftist film director from Hollywood) blamed gun control and the NRA,
Where did this leftist ideology (blaming others for your own failings) originate? Things really started downhill around the time of Kennedy. He was the president who said “ask not what your country and do for you, but rather ask what you can do for your country”.
If Kennedy were alive today, I would ask him what he thinks of his taxpayer giveaway now? Did it lift black people out of poverty, or did it make them MORE subservient to government for a handout?
In national parks throughout the nation, there are signs warning people NOT to feed the bears. Feeding them destroys their ability to find food on their own, and makes them less fearful (or lack respect) for the hand that feeds it. At that point, the bears would have to be destroyed.
Isn’t it ironic that the same government that warns us not to feed the bears does the same with PERMANENT welfare recipients! It is their spawn that causes 90% of the violent crimes in America. The news media, intelligentsia, and leftist in government tell them their condition is not anything of their doing, but is caused by white America. Somehow we owe them!
The same thought process occurs with white leftists: in the left’s mind, it was the gun (a tool) which killed the innocent people; not the young man. It was white America that caused young blacks to rape, kill, and rob 7 times that of any other group. They always pass the blame!
So, what can we do my fellow veterans? Well…not too much! We can protest until the Constitution is changed that forbids “conservatives” from speaking their minds! When the Constitution was made, I don’t think the forefathers had in mind elevating one group above the other based SOLELY on skin color; yet, some Supreme Count Justices believe just like that (Sotomayor, Kagan, and the other leftists.) From the days of Lyndon B. Johnson, there has been a WAR on anything white.
One more tip to the left and our nation as we know it is FINISHED. It may be FINISHED already! The left is FLOODING our borders with people who will vote themselves a raise based on NOTHING they did and the Republicans (other than Ted Cruz) seem to be good with that! In the end, Detroit is emblematic of the future of our nation. I wonder if Time Magazine likes that view. Detroit is the prime example of black run America, and the leftist giving them power. Detroit was prosperous until Coleman came in! Once blacks took over, the chickens did come home to roost (and we clearly see the result). This same scenario happens over, and over, and over, and over!
Hey Diane, there is about a 4000 word limit! I didn't know that, so I had to truncate what I had to say. Today is a day of reflection, so I may come back later to finish my thoughts; but make them less that 4000 words ; )
DeleteDidn't know that about the 4,000 word limit. Feel free t post what you'd like.
DeleteMaryHolloway Love comments:CORRECTION: The information given by this site, that Decoration Day originated in the NORTH is NOT TRUE~ It was started by church ladies in the South tending the graves of Confederate soldiers and also, Union ones, way before LBJ ever was thought of or his father either. (This is a rebuttal to the Patriot Factor's assertion that "Decoration Day" started in the NORTH, when it actually started in the SOUTH! Search engine BING will clarify and confirm this multiple times, and LBJ DECREED a site in NY State as the beginning of Decoration Day, which came to be legislated to "Memorial Day" on which to honor and respect ALL soldiers, both living and dead.)
ReplyDeleteNOWHERE in my article did I say where Decoration Day originated...period.
