And There It Is: Dem Rep Accuses Steve Scalise Of Islamophobia
Rep. Ilhan Omar has intensified her claims that some Jewish lawmakers have a dual loyalty to Israel, rejecting criticism from Democratic colleagues that she is engaging in anti-Semitism.
“I should not be expected to have allegiance/pledge support to a foreign country in order to serve my country in Congress or serve on committee,” Omar tweeted Sunday afternoon. “I am told everyday that I am anti-American if I am not pro-Israel. I find that to be problematic and I am not alone. I just happen to be willing to speak up on it and open myself to attacks.”
Omar, an aggressive first-term Democrat hoping to bring left-wing views to the Foreign Affairs Committee, has drawn rebukes from Democratic leaders after her comments about the U.S.-Israel alliance. Foreign Affairs Chairman Eliot Engel, who is Jewish, urged her on Friday to apologize for suggesting that Israel supporters “push for allegiance to a foreign country,” a claim that he dubbed “a vile anti-Semitic slur.”And now, Tlaib to the rescue:
Hard to watch Rep. Scalise demand that Rep. @IlhanMN be removed from House Foreign Affairs w/o wondering if it’s steeped in Islamophobia. Ilhan is more than capable of sitting on the committee & making decisions that are in the best interests of her constituents & all Americans. https://t.co/MqzPM1G2FJ— Rashida Tlaib (@RashidaTlaib) March 7, 2019
Holy cow this is a real, actual Tweet https://t.co/4c2XQyPeo4— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) March 7, 2019
Apparently Democrats are in the process of rebranding themselves with Louis Farrakhan as their new mascot, replacing Nast’s donkey.— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) March 7, 2019
This is a watershed moment for the Democrat party. They’re not fighting about condemning anti-Semitism anymore, they’re now united in defending it.— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) March 7, 2019
Outside of supporting anti-Semitism, fake hate crimes, and blackface, Democrats are making a strong stand against bigotry and intolerance.— jon gabriel (@exjon) March 7, 2019
Calls for Omar to apologize were immediate and ignored by the left-wing Democrat. She’s not apologizing for this one, and Tlaib and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) have rushed to her defense, which says all you need to know about this little crew. Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) has called on Omar to be removed from her committee post on Foreign Affairs, which drew Tlaib’s response.I'm no political expert, but you probably should stop hating Jews so much. https://t.co/RbwydcgP5c— jon gabriel (@exjon) March 7, 2019
Yes, some a have dredged up this old smear about Scalise speaking at a white nationalist gathering in 2002 when he was in the state legislature. Scalise didn’t know the group had neo-Nazi ties and even left-wing fact checker Snopes wasn’t confident enough to go with that attack line.
Leaving CBC meeting, members formed a circle around @IlhanMN and Marcia Fudge literally stuck her arm out to prevent reporters from asking her questions.— Melanie Zanona (@MZanona) March 6, 2019
Then a few members hugged Omar, including Al Lawson.
