Op-ed:
Misspeaks v. Actions or Lack Thereof

“In order to build a brighter
future, we cannot exclusively focus on the past – as the world’s
two largest nuclear powers, we must get along!”
- President Donald Trump, July 16, 2018
Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) is
reaching a fevered pitch as even some Republicans have turned on
President Trump over a simple misspeak at the Helsinki Summit when
during their joint press conference President Trump said to Vladimir
Putin, "I will say this: I don't see any reason why it would
be,” in regards to
Russia being the culprit in the now Mueller investigation
'supposedly' confirmed Russian election “meddling.”
And the Democrats vitriol started even before Trump's press conference was over with the likes of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schummer tweeting, “In the entire history of our country, Americans have never seen a president of the United States support an American adversary the way @realDonaldTrump has supported President Putin.” Also chiming in was New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand who tweeted that we just “witnessed the President of the United States abdicate his national security responsibilities as Commander-in-Chief.” And former Obama C.I.A. Director John Brennan stated, “Donald Trump’s press conference performance in Helsinki rises to & exceeds the threshold of 'high crimes & misdemeanors.' It was nothing short of treasonous. Not only were Trump’s comments imbecilic, he is wholly in the pocket of Putin. Republican Patriots: Where are you???” I say we're here standing by President Trump.
"To begin with, let me be clear: America wants a strong, peaceful, and prosperous Russia...” so said Barack Hussein Obama at The New Economic School Graduation, in Moscow on July 7, 2009
Here are but a few of Obama's many Russian foreign policy mistakes...mistakes more serious than Trump's slip of the tongue...mistakes the Democrats in whose silence chose then and who choose now to ignore...or worse...scream to defend.
And it started in 2009 when the Obama administration failed to respond to Russian aggression in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Instead he charged then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with repairing U.S./Russian relations...relations that had gone sour when George W. Bush retaliated against Russia's 2008 invasion of Georgia. Using the prop of a “reset button” to represent a change in foreign policy with Moscow ended up seeing egg on both hers and Obama's faces when translators “accidentally”...or so they claim...put the Russian word for "overcharge" on said button instead of “reset.” This resulting in a downward spiral in relations between our two countries that lasted throughout Obama's eight long years of concessions to Russia. In fact, at a Hillary campaign rally in 2016, Billy-Boy himself admitted that the Russian “reset button” had done little to secure better relations with Moscow saying that, "Our attempt to do better" led to "estrangement."
Talk about bowing down to the enemy at the expense and safety of not only America's allies but of America herself.
And here is a special little something not to be forgotten... something Obama would so like us to forget...his 2012 “open mic” moment when at the Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, South Korea he, the very man who campaigned in 2008 on the above stated missile defense issue, told then Russian President Sergi Medvedev, “On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved, but it’s important for him to give me space.” “Yeah, I understand,” replied Medvedev who continued on by saying, “I understand your message about space. Space for you...” And here is where Obama broke in spewing the now and forever infamous line, “This is my last election...after my election I have more flexibility.” “I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir,” was Medvedv's response.
Now that is truly the definition of treason and should have seen Obama being impeached for he was saying outright that he'd do Russia's bidding if reelected. A simple misspeak it surely was not...a selling out of our country it most definitely was.
And the Democrats response to Obama's “open mic” moment...then Vice President Joe Biden, in a CBS 'Face the Nation' interview, defended Obama by saying he was only stating "the obvious" adding that, "The idea that in this election year we're going to be able to deal with an agreement with the Russians on further reducing our nuclear arsenals...is difficult." And why pray tell would it have been so difficult when it just would have required doing the right thing...as in working out a compromise between both sides...something Obama and the Democrats never were willing to do let alone even consider.
And then-leading Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, Maryland Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger, said Obama's what he called a “private conversation” was nothing to be alarmed about. Saying that, "Politics, a lot of things happen in politics. People are trying to get elected...I'm not going to make a judgment (on) what he said. I have confidence in the president and that he is going to do the right thing to protect our country 100%"...what Ruppersberger failed to understand is how could Obama protect the U.S. homeland when he relished in going on worldwind apology tours to defame our military, tell the enemy when we would pull out of the theaters of war, and who drew many “red lines” in the sand but never acted upon any of them. But dare President Trump say the word “would” instead of “wouldn't” and according to Democrats, their media flunkies, and some on the right, it's off with his head.
Now remember back to 2014 when Obama stated that while Putin's annexation of Crimea would be difficult to reverse he at the same time publicly dismissed the notion that Russia's being a “regional power” in any way posed a security threat to the U.S. But he did slap even more useless sanctions on Russia even though by September of that year relations with Russia were at their lowest point since the end of the Cold War. And while Obama derided Mitt Romney when he warned him this would happen during the 2008 presidential debates, Obama countered with “this is not the Cold War” when actually it was and stayed so until Donald J. Trump became president.
And then there's Obama's ignoring Russia's violations of the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) while at the same time negotiating the NEW START Treaty (the treaty to further reduce limitations of strategic offensive arms). And in the years Obama spent ignoring this and other Russia's violations led directly to Russian empowerment and in turn to our ceding ground in Syria to Russian military intervention, with Putin never really being called to task.
But even with all this being a harbinger of things to come, remember back to June 2010 when on Obama's watch eleven illegal “immigrant” Russians, who turned out to be spies, were caught operating without diplomatic cover and were arrested. And Obama's and his administration's response was notably “restrained” even though said Russians were being accused of using both fake names and claims of U.S. citizenship to embed themselves into U.S. society in an attempt to garner and secure intelligence information. And when the White House was asked if there would be any diplomatic consequences due to said spying, a reply was issued by a Department of State official to the effect that, "I'm not projecting any diplomatic consequences other than the good will that we hope will be there going forward."
Ignoring blatant collusion via turning the other cheek was okay for Obama but President Trump now committing a simple misspeak is for some paramount to treason of the first degree.
And all these things cited...and know there are more too numerous to mention in one article...happened solely on Obama's watch not Trump's including the fact that back in November 2014, Russian hackers hacked into the State Department's unclassified computer system. According to a Washington Post article dated April 3, 2017, "Over a 24-hour period, top U.S. cyber defenders engaged in a pitched battle with Russian hackers who had breached the unclassified State Department computer system and displayed an unprecedented level of aggression that experts warn is likely to be turned against the private sector. Whenever National Security Agency hackers cut the attackers' link between their command and control server and the malware in the U.S. system, the Russians set up a new one," current and former U.S. officials said. The new details about the November 2014 incident emerged recently in the wake of a senior NSA official's warning that the heightened aggression has security implications for firms and organizations "unable to fight back."
Translation: Obama knew back in 2014 that Russian hackers were into U.S. government computers and his response was, like always, to sit back and do not a thing of substance thus making it seem as if he was on Putin's payroll. And this inaction...never mind his expelling 35 Russian diplomats and closing two Russian compounds... actions so not serious enough for the crimes committed... leads us directly back to both the brouhaha regarding Russia's “meddling” in the 2016 presidential election and Trump's Helsinki Summit with Vladimir Putin...a summit the Democrats and certain Republican folks have taken out of context by focusing on one misspeak alone.
Ignoring the summit's positives, these sorry sorts see Trump's misspeak as the most appalling public display of capitulation ever by a U.S. president. But I beg to differ for capitulation is not a simple misspeak but is Obama's a fore mentioned “open mic” moment. The man who relished in his “coziness” with the likes of the Castro brothers and the mullah's of Iran is hailed as a hero by the left while Trump is called a traitor for “appearing to side” with Putin against Director of National Intelligence, Daniel Coats. In his referring to Putin’s “strong and powerful denial” of election “meddling,” those suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome reached such a crescendo of hate that President Trump was forced to hold a press conference the very next day where he admitted his misspeak and reiterated that he had "full faith" in U.S. intelligence agencies.
Reading from a prepared statement President Trump said, "I've said this many times...I accept our intelligence community's conclusion that Russia's meddling in the 2016 election took place. Could be other people also. There's a lot of people out there." And while these words did not appease the left they did temper down a bit the vitriol emanating from our side. But if truth be told Trump got it right the first time because there is a huge difference between “meddling” and influencing or even dictating the results of an election.
Did the Democrats melt down over this or even call Obama to task...of course not for Democrats love to pick and choose who will or will not be the target of their disdain. Their worship of Obama allowed him to do as he pleased while knowing there would be no ramifications forthcoming, but the Democrats all-encompassing hatred of Donald Trump affords him the proverbial bullseye being placed upon his chest in all he says and does.
And with his knowing that Obama's and Hillary's hands reek of collusion, I wouldn't put it past the DNC to have paid the twelve Russians to do what they did or even given them the “key” to unfettered access to their unsecured computers in an attempt to frame Trump in case the election was lost...which would herald in their back-up campaign of now President Trump must go at all costs.
President Trump did not misspeak in Helsinki and shame on those who forced him to say words even they know to be untrue for the Democrats know well that the guilt lies with them...and now it's our job to prove it.
